This kid didn't know when to shut up, did he? Normally Hau's feathers wouldn't have been so easily ruffled by the young man's ranting, but he'd had a less than stellar day so far and his patience was just about gone. Hauling himself back to his feet and stepping away from Abby so Zavijah and Stenson could do whatever they needed to do, he limped towards the young man. He levelled a glare at their prisoner, baring his teeth and giving one more warning growl.
When the young man carried on regardless, hurling curses and threats like he was any position to follow through on them, Hau huffed and turned his back on him. Glancing back over his shoulder and squaring up his hindquarters, he kicked up a rain of dirt and grass right into the young man's face. The action required some use of his injured leg to balance but it was more than worth it. If the kid really wanted to keep opening his mouth then that was his own fault.
From there Hau could see Stenson placing the rabbit-shaped pendant on Abby and he cocked his head slightly when Zavijah explained the necklace's function. Right! She had mentioned that before. It was a healing talisman. His lips pulled back again, not in a snarl but in the closest thing he had to a smile. Maybe the girl would survive after all. For a moment, he thought things were going to be okay.
Then Zavijah collapsed.
Shocked into movement, Hau leapt towards her but pulled up short with the sudden realization that he didn't know what to do. He didn't have hands, he couldn't help. If he could get the blade out of his shoulder he could transform. Hau twisted, testing his reach once more, but he still couldn't reach the damn thing. Exhaling a confused whine, he looked to Stenson helplessly, then turned in a full circle, seeking out the other officers, searching for any kind of help. He ended facing Zavijah again, dancing a panicky little jig as he watched her body change, the pain in his shoulder and the loud-mouthed young man momentarily forgotten.

Stenson watched with mounting relief as the talisman's effects began almost immediately. The girl's wound was reduced from intense bleeding to a mild trickle before sealing completely. At least, on the inside. Zavijah moved the girls hand to hold what was left of the wound shut, and Stenson could see the girl's pained expression relax. Behind him, he could hear one of the officers finally getting a radio signal back at the cruisers. That was good, help was on its way.
In the meantime, he still had Hau to tend to-
Zavijah had stood, saying something about marking a map when suddenly she reeled where she stood. Stenson turned towards her, noticing at the last second that something wasn't right and reached reactively forward just as she fell forward. He hooked his palm and wrist underneath of her, catching her just before she could hit the ground.
"Oi!" Jay barked in surprise, rushing around to see. "What's 'er deal? She dead!?" He asked, panicking. Stenson rolled Zavijah over, seeing a spreading bruise and placed a clawed digit to her neck while being careful not to scratch her by accident. A faint pulse beat slowly under the pressure and he shook his head. "No, unconscious. Tranq'd, perhaps."
Unfortunately, Stenson couldn't be sure if a tranquilizer might be deadly to someone like Zavijah. She wasn't out of danger yet. He straightened and looked to Jay. "Is there another rabbit talisman?" he asked before raising his voice, "ANYONE have a RABBIT talisman on them?" A few of the officers checked their uniforms and the talismans tied to them. One lifted an arm, holding theirs and shouted back. "Here!" He said, hurrying forward.
Stenson took the talisman, cast a worried glance at the nervously dancing Hau before placing the talisman to Zavijah. His breath growled out in anxious, grumbling puffs of mist. This had to work, otherwise they'd have to wait for help to arrive. "It'll be ok." he said, low, perhaps to Hau. Perhaps to Zavijah. Or even...perhaps to himself.

Apon the contact of the rabbit talisman with her skin, there was no reaction that came forth that would of otherwise come to fruition. The bruising only seemed to continue or cease apon there own accord. However, the talisman itself- unlike to others, did not seem to react or function at all when applied to zavijah. . . .The reaction was almost as though the talisman does not know that its made contact with someone whom was injured.
they worked great for the others. . . .healed the officer of his bruising when he was shot. . the other one was in the process of sealing a jagged slice to the neck to the young woman, although slowly, it was still being healed. Just that it did nothing for the migit.
zavijah:
she glanced around, noticing the group seemed to be . . .gone? . . . and twas noon. . She grimaced as it occurred to her exactly what was going on and opted to not move from where she was. . .
The less discrepancy there was between where she was and where she ends up when this ends. . . the less nauseated she will be. . . she sighed, sitting down. . .witnessing a deer eat from the field. . .
Suddenly it changed to being in the dead of night, when a pack of wolves were chasing down a boar. . running through her as if she was a phantom. . . then another day to where she witnessed perhaps a cult? or a large cloaked group walking at a meditative pace into the wilderness, all the while it stormed heavily, with wind howling and rain pouring as though the sea above threatened to pour out onto them. . .
Another scene that this little venture shifted to was to a different 'day' . . .a coyote was squatting in the brush . . . .relieving himself when a rabbit caused it to jolt in surprise before it gave chase. Then she saw herself, running. . .bloodied, with a knife? she did not recognize. . . but it seemed heated. . .Then she saw another 'day' when there was a couple sitting among the thicket, on a patterned tapestry pulling food from a basket?
Apart of her wondered if she was dead- and her mind was merely playing tricks on her . . .perhaps?
Finally she felt the weight of her body whiplash back into her sense, her sudden need to breathe, felt herself being held and saw Stenson, Jay? and Hau among a few others who seemed to gather where she had fell . . .Abby having passed out while the boy seemed to have quieted down. . . .for now.
She frowned then she felt immediately ill . . .Very ill. . .She felt her body retching before she moved to turn away, righting herself and gently pushing the rabbit talisman away- sitting up, per say. . . .Later, grabbing her head with her good hand as it roared with a reckoning of pain. . . as followed the rest of her body.
To the others, after having fallen still for a while, the amount of time unknown to her, she suddenly gasping, awoken and started to move. . . . Then the rest of her body shuttered as the pain receptors were kicking back into full gear. .
As she grew sicker, she dragged herself towards the closest tree away from the others and hurled into the thicket.
Loud crackling and popping as water was immediately exploding apon impact with the super heated bile. a volcanic glow coming from the pour as smoke began to waft from the burning brush. . . . . the smell of surfer, burning and stomach acid emitting from the result of the uneasy release.
She gave herself a moment before using her good hand to pull her waterskin out and dumping it onto the smoldering pile of sticks, leaves and bile . . . emitting a very sickening smell . . . Hopefully it will be enough to put the mass out? . . .though she has her doubts. . . . . . kyaaaah. . .
Her body was trying to retch out what food was no longer inside of her, while she tried to fight back. . ." The repercussions came faster than- anticipated. . " she muttered dryly.
". . Apologies. . . . .Rabbit talismans do not work on me. . .This. . is a result of delving into the river of time with faltering stability. . . " she started. Along with her aura being absolutely battered, she maaay have to deal with these bouts until the parts of her consciousness trapped within the past are recollected into her once again. . .
"There will be no physical indication as to what is occurring or why. . .but, tis not wise to linger here any longer with the smell of blood on the injur-" Oh God, please don't puke again.
She opted to sit and push herself away from the pile back towards Stenson, Hau and Jay with her foot using the tree. . . .She wished she was able to get further away from the group. . The smell of the bile was only encouraging the nausea, she fears. Or perhaps twas the dazed staggering of her mind that did so. . .
Though catching on fire from her own bile was not ideal either. . . thankfully it had rained heavily. . either way, she was done. She just wanted to sleep this off like a baaad day. Hau was bloodied, too . . they need to get him, the girl and any other injured to the healers. . . .
Wait a moment. . . . .
"Stenson. . . .I fear I may have stolen one of the blades they used to skin me with earlier. . "
She could just give him the blade when they are back at their HQ . . . or the car. . . one of the two, might not be wise right at this moment- predators would of picked up on the smell of death, blood and decay by now. . . if she could find it. . . she saw herself running off with it. . . she was dazed and in a hurry prior, as well . . .

Hau limped up to Stenson, breath whistling softly with concern and confusion, and nosed gently at Zavijah. What had happened? He wanted to ask, was frustrated he couldn't, but then realized the gargoyle probably didn't know either. When Stenson called for another rabbit talisman Hau suddenly remembered his own. What was it? He couldn’t recall. Maybe it didn’t matter, anything could help.
He stepped back, shook himself, felt the cord sliding through the fur around his neck. It only got as far as his ears before getting caught. He'd need a paw to drag it the rest of the way but there was no way in which he could contort himself that didn’t aggravate his shoulder. Luckily, he didn’t need to worry about it for long. Another rabbit talisman appeared, handed over while he wasn’t paying attention, and Stenson was pressing it to Zavijah. Hau held his breath and waited, hoping the gargoyle officer’s words came true. One moment passed, then two. Several more seconds went by with no noticeable effect. The kitsune was starting to feel a creeping doubt when Zavijah finally opened her eyes. Without thought, he wagged his tail, pleased to see she might be recovering.
Then the young woman surged up and bolted for the trees. Hau gave a yip of surprise, scrambled back, then pinned his ears as she vomited something that crackled and burned. The sharp and acrid smell of it bit his nose. He sneezed and retreated more, a soft growl back in his throat, until he was behind Stenson. He remembered the way her blood had smoked on the cafe floor and knew it would be dangerous to get close.
When she finally stopped and pushed herself away from the trees he approached warily, His head was low and thrust in her direction, not quite close enough to nudge her as he wanted to, not sure if it was safe to do so yet. He was willing to lend support though, if she needed some aid to stand and didn't want to go back to the trees and that smoldering mess. That was easy enough with only three legs. His ears flicked with concern at her mention of skinning but the talk of side effects from delving into the river of time and stolen blades was beyond him. By now he was resigned to the strange things she spoke and was far too tired to puzzle over the meaning of her words anymore.

Stenson's brow furrowed, giving him a monstrous and angry look, although for him it was simply growing concern. He pressed the talisman to a different spot on Zavijah's arm, but no matter what he did, it seemed to have no affect. It worked on the others, why wasn't it working on her? His muzzle wrinkled in frustration, revealing thick, sharp fangs. Again, not necessarily in anger, although it only worsened his visage.
He had failed her, perhaps. He didn't know what was wrong, couldn't do anything to help her, and already he was beginning to feel guilt and despair digging viciously into his core. But, just as he was about to lose all hope, Zavijah stirred. She frowned, looking up at the others and then at him although she didn't seem to have fully awakened yet, before she suddenly began to heave. He felt her torso constrict, typical of a gag or retching.
Then, she did finally come to. She pushed the talisman away, lifted herself from his hand, and he let her go. He was still shocked at her sudden recovery, but knew to give her space to collect herself if she needed it.
"Zavijah-" He started, as she stumbled towards a nearby tree. She got sick, of course, and Stenson couldn't blame her. He could hear what sounded like sizzling and crackling, and knowing the nature of her body, Stenson could only guess that her stomach contained a similar super-heated temperature as her blood. He winced, although it was more at the pained way she moved than the smell. He was, after all, still covered in the wretched grime of the monsters, and the smell of sick did little to diminish or worsen the current stench they were all engrossed in. A shower would feel like heaven later, he thought.
When she was finished, she doused the flames she'd made with water and turned back to them. She still looked sickened. Stenson took a sympathetic step forward, holding out one massive, clawed hand in case she needed it to steady herself. When she opted to sit against a tree, Stenson lowered his hand instead to Hau without even thinking and gave the blue fox one steadying pet along his side as if it were a loyal canine companion. Mostly though, he did it to comfort himself.
"No need to apologize." Stenson grumbled in response to Zavijah, "I'm glad you're ok. Although," Stenson turned to Hau, remembering his injuries. "Hau, here. Hold still." He pressed the talisman gently to Hau's shoulder, near the wound. While he worked, he continued to listen to Zavijah.
"Dagger?" He asked, but whether she stole it or had it, it didn't matter in that moment. They needed to get to safety. "It's fine, Zavijah, we'll take care of it. What we need is to get back to HQ and away from here."
"Help is on th' way!" Jay piped, hearing something coming through the radio of one of the cars. He sprinted to it, dove into the drivers seat and grabbed at the radio. Stenson could hear his partner rambling into it, desperate and urgent. A rumbling sigh of relief escaped the gargoyle. It was almost over.

zavijah:
She could only nod at Stenson being 'glad shes ok'. . . little time to describe what she will endure for perhaps the next few weeks, or God forbid, months as her soul re collects with itself from the timestream. . . that This. . . was not the worse reaction to behold. . . "When we are prepared to leave. . . .perhaps it would be wise to isolate me from the others. . . . " she stated.
Should the reaction cause her heart to stop, she did not want Hau to watch her die . . . nor for them to stop taking him to be aided. . . Then if her arms and legs decentagrate from a reaction. . . well. . . her blood would cook anyone alive if they become suddenly submerged within it. . . the water within their body exploding with much force. . . and if she even could wake up from such. . .or worse. . . the curse kicks in. . . Mercy on those ensnared by the curse. . .
She watched as Stenson began treating Hau's injuries. . .using the rabbit talisman to heal his wounds.
As expected, just as it was with the girl, the same reaction occurred with Hau's injuries. . . ". . . you will need to remove the dagger and ice from his wound slowly as it heals. " though. . . perhaps this was more commonly known. . . . she quieted down as he worked. . . perhaps they do not need her input. Hau seems intimidated by her- or at least her nature. . .
Thankfully, Officer Jay Payne came to announce that 'help was on the way'. . . .
Perhaps she should walk to segregate herself from the others. . . Too much of an endangerment to them, she fears. . . . This will not aid her in the long run either to discover what happened . . . . What time, and the faces of those she saw in glimmers of broken memories of being frozen in place as she subdued the long contested foe of the blade line she was bound to in an entangled battle of wills. . . . .
'It's fine, Zavijah, we'll take care of it. ' he says in regard of the dagger. . . She hated feeling useless. . . .a tool without use or a weapon without purpose. . . damaged, it has to await till it is repaired. . .She merely nodded, and sat . . watching the talisman preform its purpose. . .
How many people has she endangered in her moment of weakness? . . . her moment of selfishness. . . She was merely lucky non of them perished. An underline bitterness was allowed to take hold against herself. . . seeing the others were able to act what they were sworn in to do. . . Twas no fault of theirs. . . she was just rather. . .foreign to the concept of asking for aid. . . .especially for herself.
Then there was the realization of just how many people surrounded her. . . . she had to focus on something and anything else. . . . too many auras to her. . .too many. . . looking down onto her hand, her left. . . she only then noticed something that damn near broke her. . .
my ring. . . she mentally croaked.
her one comfort in her eyes. . . her beloved's masterfully crafted wedding band. . . . . .and it was gone. . .It was at that moment she felt truly alone and abandoned. Worse. . . that she had betrayed the one man she loved by loosing that ring. . . .a foolish side of her moved to clasp the now vacant space where it was once placed. . . the place were it once place leaving a paled line from the ring never being removed in all of the years she was married to him . . . As if grabbing the place would magically make the ring reappear. . .

For as big and monstrous as Stenson looked, the gargoyle could be surprisingly gentle. First that little pet down Hau’s back, now again as he pressed the rabbit talisman near the kitsune’s wound. The dull ache in Hau’s shoulder subsided a bit but he noticed little else change. Indeed, nothing probably could till the knife was out. Reluctantly, he arrived at the conclusion that he should probably stop using his abilities to sustain the ice around the blade and let his body heat slowly melt it away. It was a task easier said than done though. Relaxing his hold on it was like unclenching a white-knuckled grip. Without the ice to staunch it he was worried about the blood, about the pain that the chill was keeping at bay, worried that the talisman had limits.
Meanwhile Zavijah was sitting over there, looking exhausted and drawn and he couldn’t seem to peel his attention away from her. Even the voice announcing that help was on the way failed to garner more than a twitch of the ears from him. There was something wrong, either her expression or her tone of voice, or something only the fox in him was picking up on, something that went beyond the physical strain she was clearly feeling. She looked like someone on the cusp of crying. And that mention of isolation… the only thing Hau could liken it to was the first few years after his abandonment, when he felt so worthless and lost and depressed, and all he wanted to do was hide away and be alone...
But being alone had never helped in the end. With a soft whine he dropped gracelessly to his belly, distantly relieved to finally be able to lie down, and stretched out towards her. Pushing past his apprehension, the kitsune carefully placed his chin in her lap. He wasn’t able to offer any words of comfort, or anything of worth really, except his company but he hoped it might help.
