"Oh, wow… it’s almost a rarity for someone to walk a girl home. Thank you for walking me home… It's certainly very nice of you to go out of your way to do this for a stranger like me.."
Hau hadn’t expected her to be so impressed. Where he lived, this was the norm. His family had always stressed good manners. Maybe he hadn’t realized the extent to which his parents prized that sort of thing until now. But he hoped she wasn’t getting the wrong idea. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d had to turn down a girl who interpreted what he considered common courtesy as genuine interest.
"What about your family? I wouldn't want to get you in trouble or have them worry about you if your running late walking me home. Would you like to use our house phone to call them just in case? so they know your OK and on your way home?"
His phone! Hau jammed his hands in his pockets only to find them empty and his heart skipped a beat. Where had he left it? Was it in the break room at work still? Soaked down by the fire hoses? He had to leave in such a hurry he didn’t even think about the stupid thing until now. Which meant he missed his regular check in call home. And his ohana was almost certainly flooding his voicemail with messages. “Oh no.” The alarm was probably clear on his face.
He considered Abby’s offer. If they saw a call from this area code, but not his number, they were going to think the worst. Claire would let him have it for sure. But it would be worse to make them wait. Especially since he didn’t know how long it would be until he would be able to call. “Actually, that’s a good idea. I seem to have lost my phone.” He admitted a little sheepishly.

Stenson's usual athletic concentration continued steadily for most of their trip, but it wasn't long until Zavijah began to shift and move about on his back.
"What're you up to back there?" Stenson asked as he pressed ever onward. He felt her fidgeting with something on his vest, a strap perhaps, and when he looked over his shoulder he saw some sort of carved stone object attached to his uniform.
"This will protect you in the case there is one who intends to harm you from afar."
"Is that so?" He whispered back, stepping over a rather large rock that threatened to trip him up. His night vision revealed the path relatively well, but it looked like they were coming up on some rougher terrain.
No sooner had she completed this task, than she had begun to dig around in her bag once again. What else she had produced, however, he couldn't tell without straining his neck.
Finally, the path diverted into smaller segments, one of which tapered off completely to dump them into an overgrown clearing. Here was the site.
"Stenson. . . I will need to remain here for a short time. Though I will need you to not move for a while. . . . I am going to attempt to peer into the past as far back as two moon cycles' time. . . I need to bare witness to what was carved here. I will owe you a great deal of explanation . . . as well as what answers I come across. . ." Zavijah explained. Stenson still wasn't sure what she was referring to, or how she planned to look into the past. This entire little tour somehow began to feel more like a secondary investigation. Would she be able to get more out of this after all? Hell, if he'd known she was capable of all this and not just providing a witness account, he would've opted for one of the Occult Division Investigators to come out too. They would've eaten this right up.
"Do what you need to do." Stenson said, turning his face up to the moonlight as a breeze cooled his skin. He held as still as he could, feeling Zavijah's legs tighten their grip around his torso. It almost felt like she'd taken her hands and arms off him completely. What WAS she doing back there? "Be careful. Don't hurt yourself." He added, still thinking of her earlier injuries. He at least kept his own arms and hands under her to help provide some support.

zavijah:
she she merely nodded before resting her right arm on his shoulder and holding the lens out, aiming the star carving at the sky and the lens itself at the ground where the center of the clearing laid. . . staying quiet in favor of focusing her aura into the talismans. . . eventually both the drawn formula on her arm as well as the three talismans gained a dull glow of a light blue color. . .her aura. . . .she braced herself with her left arm, holding onto the officer's shoulder pad before being ready. . she slowed her breaths as she focused.
" galan windræs. ongeanhworfenness lige tidlice. (enchanted call 'of' storm of wind. what lies in the way the river 'of' time.)" she paused for a moment as the lens seemed to come abit more alive within her hand.
"onhlídan (reveal)" she ordered. . .
It was at this moment, her body seemed to slump, thankfully she was not only leaning towards Stenson due to her position, but he was holding onto her to keep her from over exerting herself after having just been released from the hospital.
her breathing nearly slowed, almost to a stop. while she maintained a bit of a death grip on the lens in her hand. . . what was abit more unnerving, her eyes seemed to react normally as she looked among the site. . . in truth, she had projected herself abit into the lens. . . not wholly, for such would be a suicidal mistake. but just enough to see. . . she seemed to grimace as she continued. . . like flipping through a book in search of keep points necessary, yet not finding such immediately. . . one month backwards seemed abit too late. . . aside from a set of birds crossing the clearing, no evidence indicated such. . .so she dug further in. . . slowly paneling every 3 days further back.
there was hardly anything eventful occurring. . .aside from small animals seeming to take interest in the site before moving on. some random human with a pack and a walking stick walking towards it, unaware of what was present before marking his territory apon a tree and moving on. . . there was a focal point present, so she knows Stenson and the others had not taken her to a false site. . . something did occur here. . . but without much to tell outside of a poor soul awaiting use, there was nothing much she could pull from it. . . . she needed more information.
before she seemed to stop. . . . . . a month and 3 weeks back, there was something . . . three days further back. . . and there it was . . . . . the carving she dreaded seeing. . . .the dreaded death rose cross shape in its entirety. . . a hole was present where it had been removed by whomever placed yellow wedges with numbers? around the site. . . the writing, she recognized the writing not only from the trading markets in the desert markets of the Sand Pureblood kingdom. . . but from the ruins of the later years of temples during and after the war of Seven Sons. . . there were harsh needle like carvings depicting the four cardinal directions, formula lines that decorated around, within the many rings as well as within the needles carved into the earth. then there were smaller circles between each point at every other 45degree angle, between each point. . . she did not realize her own mouth quietly muttered 'why are they here?'
To the unknowing of both, another shadow lurks in the wilderness. . . slowly creeping towards the two. . yet remaining at a distance. oh how, oh how to remove the cop without hitting the lamb or notifying the other piglets? . . . he sighed as he quietly set to work screwing the silencer onto the end of the barrow of his gun . . . . he will need to position himself before he can pop the gray fop into an eternal sleep. . . a set of tattoos brandish his wrists. . . .seven marks placed evenly around his wrists. . . . seven different symbols with an eight apon each that encircled the two sets of seven symbols. he would not known that they were on their way here, had their watch dog not witnessed them leave for the location. . .
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Abby smiled sweetly before she nodded. "I'm sorry to hear you lost your phone. . . Hopefully they won't opt to ignore the weird number. " she replied. " oh, if its a long distance call, you will need to dial a 1 before you dial their number, otherwise it drops the call for being 'too far' " she added. when they got to her apartment, she fumbled abit for her keys before accidentally dropping them. she sheepishly giggled before grabbing her keys - a sign to the hidden mic underneath the end table with two drawers, the wire and mic itself hidden in the underlip at the base of the floor of the lower drawer. - a single to send to the others that she has a guest of interest at her place. . .or if she was in trouble.
she unlocked and opened the door. the place looked fairly well kept, the floors were clean, there was a scarf or two draped over a chest table while some coats hung from a coat rack semi hidden around the corner. . . the bedroom door was cracked just enough to give an idea that she was late for something earlier, and had no idea what in Gods name to wear. it wasn't a pig sty, but definitely looked lived in. She walked over towards the phone that was on a landline. " I'm sorry about the mess here. . . I can go get the couch ready in case it gets too dangerous to stay out too late. " she stated as she stuck her keys in her pocket, perhaps seemed to remove something else from her hand or something vaguely visible covering her hand. . . picked up the receiver and held the mouth piece with both hands. . . " here you go, its abit old, though it still has a screen display so you can see what numbers you dialed or haven't dialed in the order you did so. " she continued before pausing abit, offering the receiver. " that was abit of an odd way of explaining that. . . " she sheepishly admitted. "I could go get you something to drink too if your interested. like water or something. not booze though. . . my cousin drank all of it during his birthday last week. . " she continued. OK shes abit nervous but not in a rapey sort of way, just a typical young woman manner.

The apartment building was only about a mile from Hau’s motel, all-in-all not a terribly long detour for him. In fact, he seemed to remember passing it by a time or two during his nightly excursions. It never held much interest for him. Too many people always coming and going, even at odd hours of the night. Just like them, ironically. If he wanted to remain unseen in fox form, it had always been necessary to stay away.
He let Abby take the lead as they stepped into the blazing lights of the hallway from the darkness outside. The cool, air-conditioned air felt good to him. When she dropped her keys outside her apartment door he would have picked them up for her but she beat him to it with a nervous giggle, so he just gave her a quick smile.
“I'm sorry about the mess here…” She apologized. To Hau, the apartment looked pretty average. Clean even, compared to his motel room. “I can go get the couch ready in case it gets too dangerous to stay out too late.”
He had no intention of staying, the roads she seemed to think were so perilous were ones he was quite well acquainted with, especially at night. He wasn’t afraid. “Don’t worry about me. I won’t take long. And I really appreciate you letting me use the phone.”
Hau was still outside the apartment, one foot half out of his sneaker (shoes always come off in someone else’s home!), when she offered him the receiver. She was halfway across the room, he’d have to enter the apartment in order to take it, and suddenly… he didn’t want to. The fox part of him was on alert. Just like at the café earlier today, there was something about the smell of the apartment, or the way Abby seemed to have suddenly gotten nervous, or any number of other little things Hau hadn’t consciously noticed that put him on edge. And, like he really should have done earlier today, Hau was going to trust his instincts.
“You know what? I just remembered I left my phone at home this morning.” He lightly smacked his forehead with his palm, trying to look exasperated with himself, and slipped his loose shoe back on. “I don’t need to bother you anymore tonight. Since you’re home safe, I’m just going to be on my way. Thanks again.” He took a few backwards steps away from the door, giving her a quick wave before heading back down the hall.

Stenson continued to wait as Zavijah went through with whatever it was she was doing. He kept as still as he could, still silently gazing up at the moon and treetops. She whispered some sort of incantation, keeping herself propped up on his shoulder as a soft blue glow emanated from behind him. As much as he wanted to ask again what she was doing exactly, he kept quiet so as not to break her concentration. He was a little worried when he felt her grip slacken, but refrained from letting it get the best of him.
They remained like this for a short while, and Stenson managed to keep from letting his curiosity get the better of him. Then, as he gazed skyward, he began to feel a small bit of tension forming in his chest. It was a familiar feeling. something he'd quickly come to recognize as "Cop Intuition" that 9/10 times was spot on. It was an uneasy feeling. as if something or someone were suddenly watching them, but he hadn't heard anyone approach. Part of him argued that it was nothing, out in the woods at night it was normal to get the heebie jeebies. But another part of him, the Cop Intuition. argued otherwise. He might not have heard them because of the chanting from Zavijah, what if someone was out there? To try and keep whoever might be out there unaware of his inner suspicions, Stenson looked down from the sky and casually glanced around at the site. He could've just been bored, perhaps opting to find something else to admire. But he also looked for anything out of place, an unnatural glare of light off metal, a person's silhouette, a rustle of movement that was out of place. His own eyes gleamed with mirrored moonlight, giving them an almost animalistic, nocturnal appearance.

The male of a rather large build did not realize where he had taken to hiding in the brush, his did not realize that due to the fact that the night prior was a full moon, that he would be relatively visible. . . if he was not moving, he might of been mistaken for an ugly hairy animal or a moss covered rock from how he was crouched. he lifted the gun and aimed it at the officer, the gun loaded before he had arrived, and fired the gun. . . there might of been a chance of the bullet hitting him, had the turtle talisman not been activated.
There was a subtle flash of a green bubble like structure, or perhaps a turtle's shell, that appeared around the officer and disappeared. It struck the invisible field, and was ripped around the officer, as if something had caught it, before it landed against earth and a root, with a heavy 'tack' behind the officer. it was as if it tried to pop a bubble but only grazed and traveled the wall before finding the ground. He frowned at the reaction, never having saw this before before opening fire, aiming at the officer. . shooting three more times.
each bullet doing the same as the last. . . all remaining a safe distance away from his body, with the exception of one, that while still remained away from Stenson. . . striking the Pigeon talisman. . . it shattered with a similar resonance as dropping a coffee cup from the cabinet. again, he frowned, the three bullets confirmed there was a shield of some sort protecting the two. . . ok, perhaps its time to whip out the magic works.
zavijah:
she carefully began making her way back towards the lens. . . reaching out and grabbing onto it. . yet not quite going back into her body. . . not yet. . . she at that point, began to move three days at a time forward into time. . . if she could get back towards the day when they had arrived or close to it, perhaps the drawback would be less abrasive. . . this was when she noticed a sudden 'jerking' motion. . . just after she had grabbed onto the lens. . . something was wrong. . . . if suddenly felt as though she was now trying to pull herself free from a raging current. . . she grimaced at this. . .when she tried to shift herself towards a direction, nothing occurred. . . though she still seemed remain in control of navigating time wise. . .
either they were under attack and the Pigeon talisman was damaged or destroyed. . .or she had spent more time here then she had realized. . either way, it was foolish to remain. . .the distribution of power was now at an imbalance. . . the wear of the talismans against her aura and the combined formula. . .or whats left of it, has now greatly increased. . instead of returning by increments of three days, she set for increments of 5 days. . sometimes by an entire week, sometimes by 2 days. . . shes useless unconscious.
to the outside, after the pigeon was struck. . with the formula partially destroyed, there were arks of energy that seemed to pop from the written parts before settling abit. . .though the lens as well as the fish talisman began to glow a dull red, as if something was beginning to melt them. .
--------------------------------------------
"are you sure? " Abby asked, " well, if you want I can at least go grab you a flash light just in case. " she offered, having setting down the phone on its hook, and starting to follow the blue haired young man out. she wanted to try and keep him in her apartment for abit longer, before the 'boys' showed up. by now they were at the parking lot. . one of them driving and parking, while a few others either walking in, or preparing to follow the young man just in case he escapes the first two groups failed in the capture or neutralization of the potential target, let it be an assailant or a target.
4 men were walking towards the apartment, while a group of 3, two women and another male, parked and turned their lights off. two of the men walking towards the apartments, noted the opened door and lights that were on where Abby's apartment was. one pulling their phone out to take a picture of the potential target . . . preparing for when he or she walked towards the door.

"Are you sure? Well, if you want I can at least go grab you a flash light just in case."
Hau turned back around to her but didn't stop his retreat, still backing towards the main door of the apartment building just a little slower now since he couldn't see where he was going. Abby was certainly persistent, he'd give her that. If he were more daring, he'd show her his foxfire just to assure he really didn't need a flashlight at all. But the idea of his secret getting out, revealing what he actually was, frightened him more than having this goofy girl just follow him all the way home.
"No need. The street lights are still on." He insisted, waiting for her to give up and return to her apartment. "Thanks anyway."
When he felt the handle of the door bite into his back he was relieved. "Bye." He gave her another quick wave as he pushed his way out into the warm night, spinning quickly to face the parking lot only to blunder straight into another small group heading into the building. It was a couple of young men, one was holding up his phone awkwardly not in a casual sort of way like maybe he was just texting someone or playing a game, but like he was taking a picture. Weird. But Hau didn't want to deal with it at all. If he'd accidentally wandered into the man's photo he was sorry but he wasn't going to stick around any longer and let Abby catch up.
"Sorry about that." Hau stepped off the path and into the grass to get out of their way, cutting across the lawn would get him to the road quicker anyway. Already he was feeling the tension bleed out of him, he'd be home shortly and he could put this whole awful day behind him.

Stenson saw the silhouette, even saw the signature shape of the gun in its hand as it lifted its arm to aim. He dropped quickly, one arm under Zavijah while the other flew instinctively to his hip. As the first bullet hit, sending a green shield into existence over them, he noted how the bullet struck at throat level if he hadn't seen it coming or if the shield hadn't been there. Was that what Zavijah had tied to him???
Either way, he was already moving even as the first bullet was followed by another, and another. His own gun was already raised, returning fire at the man's silhouette, eyes gleaming with fiery orange rings around mirrored moonlight. Where the other gun let out soft tufts of fire from the silencer, the sound of Stenson's gunshots were like the cracking booms of fireworks in comparison. The other man's aim wasn't particularly good, especially with the shimmering green shield, but the officer took no chances either way. He kept his own torso turned towards the assailant as he moved, keeping himself between the bullets and Zavijah as the skin of his throat and face hardened over into granite. A tree soon passed between them and he stopped, dipping his shoulder to spill Zavijah into one arm as he pressed his back against the wide trunk with his gun raised. He had no idea if any of his own bullets had hit home, and with the assailant still out there he wasn't willing to take any chances.
"Police! Cease fire and drop your weapon NOW!" Stenson shouted, adrenaline quickly washing through him. The arm that held Zavijah fumbled awkwardly for his radio, depressing the button on the side. "Payne, this is Jones, do you copy? Shots fired, I repeat, shots fired." Jay's voice answered almost immediately, alarmed but compliant.
"Aye, we heard it! On our way! Copy!"
Stenson leaned slightly to look back where the man had been, his gun's muzzle trained at the very spot, either to confirm he was down or perhaps complying with the officer's demands. Either way, he couldn't hold onto Zavijah forever if they now had a shooter in their midst.

zavijah:
she felt another jerk of motion. . .but it wasn't from the river of time this time. . . no. . .this was her body. . . . so they might be amidst a battle. . this bred worry into her, all the thoughts and potentialities; what has she done? There was a good chance that Stenson might die and it was all her fault. .
why didn't she venture this way on her own? non of them would be in danger if she wasn't weak. . . . too late to beat herself up. . .act now, then self-abuse. . . when nobody is at risk of being killed while she has a chance. she continued to proceed towards the present date. . . though she could feel that little bit of control left slipping. . .the lens was not too far behind either in reaching its death point. . when she was close enough, perhaps by a day or two, she turned it forward by abit more before entering the lens. . . . when she was within the lens, she then proceeded back into her body. . .all of the terrible sounds and what not hitting her like a wall of steel and stone. . .
the man did not even have time to react to the sudden shots back. . . flinching when the bullets struck and bounced off of his skin. . . .he growled before he opened fire at the officer as he prepared spells. . . mud magic with a mix of puppeteering the animal corpses at their feet should do the trick. . . .so hes shooting at a cop . . . . this was new considering non of the others before had went to any type of authority before. it was not even considered little alone attempted and succeeded. the ground seemed to have became much more saturated as he prepared. . . he will need to considering the officer was able to get to his radio. . .
this was when the other two talismans zavijah had either tied to her arm or was holding turned bright yellow before turning black and disintegrating into soot. it was also at this time that zavijah suddenly jolted, tensed and grabbed while gasping for breath. . coughing abit as if she was just drowning. The swordsman in too much of a daze to respond. This was also when mud began to swell and bellow around the man attacking the officer. . . . . as a cold and musty blood-stained smell of decay filled the otherwise quite and calmed night.
"I suggest you give the lamb to me before I exert effort into killing you. " the man growled. his voice was grizzly, abit horse as if his neck had been damaged once at some point. . . but it was hard to miss the distain in the otherwise coy and cocky voice that was charged at the officer.
he just needs to keep them far enough away to not get a grip on his neck or impead his breathing. . . --------------------------------------------------------
"well, alright, have a good night, then. " she called. "stay safe!" she waved. she watched as Hau left, right into the hands of her fellow comrades. . . they will take care of him. . . if she stepped in then she would risk becoming a liability. . . cameras outside would record her acting against the man should she further follow him. . . she had already blown the more sneaky route. . "If you change your mind, don't be afraid to ring the doorbell or knock!" she continued abit, before walking towards the door just to close it.
the group that Hau attempted to pass only seemed to surround and follow him. . . the one without the phone reached into his hoodie pocket, while the other pocketed his phone, in favor of having both hands free. "sorry about what? " one of the men questioned. the two men keen on following the poor blue haired soul for seemingly that reason. "what, you plannin' somethin?" he barked. "bad enough your kind are a blight to this world. and now you think 'sorry' is going to cut it? "

"Sorry about what? What, you plannin' somethin? Bad enough your kind are a blight to this world, and now you think 'sorry' is going to cut it?"
What was with today, seriously? Heck, if he checked his phone (which, oh yeah, he’d lost) it probably wasn’t even today anymore, Hau would bet this craziness had rolled right over midnight and into tomorrow. And after everything he’d been through he was getting crap from a couple of strangers, all because he’d brushed up against them a little?
Hau knew he should just walk away. All guys like this wanted from him was a reaction. If he didn’t respond, eventually they’d go find someone else to harass. But he felt himself freeze at the words “your kind.” He’d been in situations like this before, on rare occasions he’d gotten similar attention outside the gay clubs back at home. But at least there, the context of “your kind” was clear. Here, Hau didn’t have a clue what they were talking about, but the implications worried him.
And it pissed him off at the same time, which was a testament to just how frayed at the edges he was by now. He’d done absolutely nothing to these guys that would warrant this sort of aggression.
“I’m a blight?” He asked, turning to face them. He could already hear his uncle telling him to shut up and walk away already, but he pushed that sage advice out of his mind. It felt good to let out a little of his pent up frustration. “I’m not the one hassling complete strangers in the middle of the night.”

The officer held his ground, waiting for either a reply or flash of movement. Something to tell him what the situation was at that point in time. Zavijah still seemed in a daze in his arm, but he worried how long she might remain this way if he had to act.
From where the suspect had been, Stenson noticed a slouching figure moving groggily, doing something. His best guess was yes, he had hit the man, but from his distance he couldn't tell. Detail became a blur, even with his glasses, and it was difficult to tell exactly what the man was doing. However, Stenson held his gun level, trained on the moving figure all the same.
"I see you there in the brush! Come out now with your hands up, weapon on the ground! This is your last warning to comply!" He shouted again, finger hovering just above the trigger as he stretched his arm past the trunk of the tree, looking back over his shoulder. Whatever happened, he had to keep that tree between them, and his back remained stubbornly pressed to the rough bark. There were a few more flashes of light from the brush and Stenson pulled his arm quickly to his chest. Splintered wood flew in shards to his left as the bullets struck the tree. Stenson cursed under his breath, turned again and began to return fire at the figure once it had stopped. His warnings had all run out, it seemed this individual was not going to come quietly. Just then, Zavijah jerked in his arm, nearly throwing off his balance. He felt her grab at him, and he had to fight to keep from dropping her.
"Zavijah, are you ok? I need to set you down, I don't think we have a choice!" He said quickly. The man in the brush had begun to shout something back to him as he spoke to her, something about a lamb and killing the officer if he didn't give up. Stenson gritted his teeth angrily, his usual friendly complexion now a mask of frustration and stress. With one hand, he quickly worked to reload his weapon, dropping the empty clip and pressing the gun to his belt to insert the next full cartridge. With that done, he swung his arm out again to take aim. Off in the distance, flashlights had begun to bob and weave through the trees, signalling the approach of reinforcements.

zavijah:
she glanced between him and flinching hard, glancing at the direction of the gun fire when the one firing his gun at the two, bullets striking and whizzing past them to strike the surrounding trees and area. . . . hardly registering what he was blurring out towards her as he spoke quickly.
Thank God, these people blurt out 'Modern English' at eachother in general where she is. . . had it been English or 'old English, this would of been royally messed up by her own stupidity . . .mental disabilities are not recognized, nor does she recognize her own as such. . . she does not understand her 'stupidity' was one. . . . . "hwone? (what?)" she asked, almost a quiet bark given the intensity of the situation she has 'returned to' she tried to sort out what was going on. . only seemed as though there was one aura, perhaps if she- damnit, it does not aid them if she's panicking!
"ah. . ne, bog- (no, branch-)" she started to say before cutting herself off, cursing at herself to translate before she speaks in this realm. "- branch, set me in tree, not ground. " she stated. "I climb. " she was in no state to fight, especially after everything that had transpired. then there was the fact that touching the ground, as she discovered exactly what was present here, will in fact call apon those connected to it. . . . flies to honey, they would be compelled to come. regardless of her state, she cant touch the ground, not here. . . eventually she would touch the earth if she were to fight, here. . . whether it from becoming inhaled into a truly tiring battle or from the opponent potentially ridding of the footholds of the forest. . . the trees. . . .
The man glared at the two as they seemed the lamb had woken up while the officer seemed intent in not doing this the easy way. . . well, at least it makes it funner. . . he arched his arm before as though throwing a large chakram underarm, he incorporated his arm, shoulder, hips, his entire body into throwing the first attack, while he set the next one up. . . perhaps he should cause a mud slide to bury the others making their way up towards them . . . . the wave of mud, rocks and other debris caught up in the attack with the mud lurched like a snake coming back from the dead and shot out at the two with a similar enthusiasm as a snake strike, only for the mud to suddenly splash around them. . . . the rocks and other debris made it easier to discern it as an attack. . . the vehemence in the attack made this seem as if the one attacking them was eager to end it quick, or wanted to hurt them badly enough to watch them writhe. . . .almost sadistic in nature, it seemed.
perhaps if he buried the officer, if not just his feet, he will buy himself some time. . . he already not only lost the element of surprise, but this attempt has already taken too long for his preference. . .
while the man used mud to attack, he had to cease firing to focus on attacking, however when the spell ended he resumed firing, carefully preparing to cause a mud slide. . .he wanted to bury the others, if not at least isolate the two from the rest. . . .the bullets at this point where to distract the cop while he prepared the next spell. . . . seeing how effective they were with whatever barrier was up and protecting them . . he noted that it seemed to be focused on one or both of them, since the shield seemed to move with them. . .
--------------------------------------------------------
the man seemed to grin when Hau turned around to confront him. . . . ooh, it was as though he could See the tension in the young man's reaction. was this admittance of guilt? was he a halfblood too? the most difficult of the 'seven sons' moon thieves and this one just happened to fall into their lap by chance? they would need to thank the other lamb for leading them to this one. . . . .for what other has blue hair like that?! what he is, if they were right in their assumption, he was even rarer . . .both girls and boys were rare due to the effect they had on their human mother. . . while others either committed suicide from the sheer amount of pain they were in or guilt tripped themselves into starvation, his kind drove their mothers mad . . . . . . . shattering their minds. . . half of the time, the mother in an fit of maddess ends up harming or even killing their own . . . in some cases, cannibalizing the child . . . . though, cannibalism is only such if its the same species. these thieves are only half human . . .
"oh no, don't you even dare consider yourself on the same level as us. another person would be a stranger. your a thief. . .a disease. yeah, you are a blight. what, are you deaf? " the man replied, growling it back at the man. . .if the sheer lack of respect did not scream 'thug' loud enough, the lack of concern for life did. .
while the two exchanged words, the other one, quietly cocked the hammer of his weapon within his pocket, and flicked the safety off. . . he knows its loaded. . but not with the usual lead. . .oh no, his contact had access to the good shet. . . . cant find tranqz like these in a wathmart or JAAAHMart. . . though black market prices he could do without. . . .
all the while the other group that had arrived by car, started their way towards Hau and the twiddle dipshet thugs harassing the poor fox in the middle of the parking lot, on the grass, at night, when cars were rare and people where just trying to go to sleep already. all three had a knife, though, only one of them thought of it as their main weapon. . . the other two had a hidden pipe, while the other was more hands on. . . .

The man's tone was flat and angry. Righteously angry. Like he had a real, personal issue with Hau. The kitsune had been expecting a laugh, some demeaning insults, some unimaginative threats, something more like the drunk homophobes getting their kicks in on a Saturday night that he was used to. This felt more serious, more dangerous. Regardless, the words still rankled and, had he been in fox form, his hackles would have been raised and his teeth bared.
Out of the corner of his eye he noticed the group walking up from the other side of the parking lot. Relief washed through him. More witnesses meant less chance that these two might do something violent. Then he realized that the trio was heading straight towards them, as if with a purpose, like they were all together. And Hau felt his stomach drop as it dawned on him just what sort of trouble he was in. They must all be part of some sort of gang. This was far from the best part of town, but Hau certainly didn't think it was one of the worst. Shows what he knew. Other than that, there was no one else outside the darkened apartment building at this time of the night, he was alone with these thugs.
Hau knew his options were limited. It hadn't rained recently, so there was a lack of standing water for him to take advantage of. Not that staying here and fighting was really the best choice. He was quite outnumbered. The fox would be the better choice to deal with all five of them but Hau had never transformed in view of witnesses before and he wouldn't now. Not unless he had absolutely no other choice.
As humiliating as it was, retreat really was the best option. And even then, with their numbers, they still might manage to out maneuver him and catch him. Hau raised his hands up, showing them his empty palms, trying for a conciliatory stance but not one that suggested outright surrender. "I didn't steal anything. And I'm not here to cause any trouble, so why don't you back off before I call the police?" As he spoke he took a few slow, careful steps backwards, in a direction that was away from both the pair who confronted him and the approaching group. As soon as he was far enough away that they wouldn't be able to reach him with a quick grab, he would make a break for the main street.

Stenson listened as best as he could to Zavijah's muttered, broken words before catching her meaning. He was glad to hear her compromise and quickly lifted her to the tree, letting her get her grip on the trunk before allowing her to use his shoulder and palm as stepping stones to lift herself up into its branches. "Get out of here, Zavijah. Head towards the flashlights!' He called up to her.
When Zavijah was safe, Stenson had barely turned his attention back to the suspect when he saw the man make some kind of lurching, thrusting motion with his arm and upper body. Stenson's gun had lifted and fired one single shot when suddenly the ground just ahead of the other man lifted in a funnel of mud, rocks and debris. It surged in a wide upward arc, the front of it a widening spray that almost looked like the splayed, open jaws of a viper. Stenson flinched back behind the tree right as the surging mud struck the ground and spread in a wave towards the tree and the officer. The tree's trunk groaned, internal wood splitting and splintering somewhere deep in its core as it took the brunt of the landslide's force at the base. Stenson felt the bark press suddenly into his back, shoving him forward into the wave of mud that now splashed around either side of the tree, boiling past him on either side like water breaking around coastal rocks. He stumbled forward, loosing his footing to fall knees first into the flood of rocks, muck and debris which quickly sucked itself around his legs, waist. His arms soon followed suite, disappearing into the gunky surface with a squelch as he tried to catch himself. When all was said and done, the mud had quickly climbed the arc of his back, spreading around his midsection and halfway up his biceps before settling into the spaces between the trees. His gun was long gone, buried somewhere beneath the muck, and he was now pinned in the heavy thickness of the landslide. Even the tree behind him now leaned precariously to one side, its fall continuing in slow motion as its roots gradually lost their grip in the softened earth. Even in all this, Stenson could only hope two things. One, his last shot had hit something vital enough to stop the man's attacks and buy them time, and two, Zavijah had managed to move to another tree.
In the distance, the flashlights had stopped in their progression and panicked, surprised voices cried out. The sound made Stenson's heart sink.

zavijah:
she felt herself being practically hurled into the tree, grabbing onto limbs before glancing back towards Stenson as he barked orders at her to 'head for flashlights' . . .she looked at the officer almost guilty-like. . . she did not want to leave him to die. . but she was in the way in this state. . . so she merely nodded and started to climb higher. . .though as she started climbing up higher, she jolted at the loud crack of the 'gun' before the tree was suddenly struck by a large serpentine like formation attacking the officer. . her hand slipped as she grabbed at a limb during this. . . the moss breaking off as she grabbed and slipped off of the limb. . . her other limbs followed suit before she fell out of the tree. . . damn her weakness! she cursed under her breath before bracing for impact, landing in mud, on tree and rock as it rushed around and past Stenson. . .
although the turtle talisman protected Stenson from the trees and rock and other debris as they struck and went around the officer, she landed right in the pile of concentrated hard-compacted pile of debris. . . cemented by the mud as it piled. her vision shook violently when she landed. . .she could tell her arm and leg were submerged, and that she was pushed, almost carried away by a log, or branch . . . . .though not much else. . . thankfully the mud had ceased coming, since the caster of the dreaded spell was rendered unconscious from the attack. although the bullet had bounced off of his cranium. . he was immune to the weapons, not the force behind it. the sudden force throwing him backwards was enough to slam him against a branch behind him. his body now was firmly planted on the ground in the current state he was in. . . . .
zavijah on the other hand was almost unconscious as well. . . .worse, terrible red lines began to form from underneath her, they looked like what one would expect from a seal . . .even the lines that were apart of the original crime scene they came to investigate formed and glowed the blood red hue, a low tune that was low enough to make teeth rattle from the baritone hum of it. there was an underline sound that coupled with the low and ominous near brown note hum. . . .it was almost drowned out by the subtle hum, but it almost was like screaming? agony induced cries of pain. . . .yet ghostly, and many. . . .zavijah was barely awake enough to move her hand to cover her ears. . .clenching her teeth from the pain it was causing her from how LOUD it was to her. . . loud enough for humans to notice and aware of what it was yet not enough to drown out casual conversation or low tone speaking, but for her it was like standing next to a train as it blares its horn. and the appearance of the lines spread out from where she ended up like a slow flood. . . .blooming away from her like a wound.
she cracked her eyes open, her vision still shook, but there were blurry form and shapes. . . trees? definitely not people. . they do not have auras similar to such. . .though she did see a familiar aura but instead of being near her, he was a good weak stone's toss away from where she was now. . . .perhaps 15 paces away, neither of them where they once stood. . . . similar to Stenson, she too, felt the bark of wood against her back . . though she felt wood pressed against her leg. . . . her left side was free, but her right was trapped. . . . . she wanted to close her eyes. . .rest them for a bit. . .despite the danger. . . . .her head shook so badly. . it does not seem like a bad idea in the slightest. . .but Stenson was in danger. . .there was another aura, one she was unfamiliar with laid out further away from him . . .was he just laying there? or was he unconscious? ------------------------------------------------------
Suddenly Abby felt her wrist where the tattoo was burning like a son of a bitch. . . she grasped onto it, almost heaving from the intensity of the burn before looking apon it. . .the unfinished 6th mark. . . it glowed and burned at her. . . . .it was weird how a part of her seemed very aware that the lost lamb was back at the circle. . . she just wants it to stop burning. . . she felt compelled to move. . . so she prepared to take off in a hurry. . . .
one of the thugs circling Hau also felt his wrist burning at him . . . though he had a higher pain tolerance then Abby. . .instead of grabbing at it, he used it to fuel his anger and resolve. . . they were too close to finishing this up to let two lambs ruin it for them! "go ahead and call the police . . . what are they going to do to help you? " one of the men sneered.
"there won't be a reason to worry about the cops if we just cut to the chase now. " suggested one of the two women. " it cant call for help if its unconscious or drugged out of its gourd. " she continued.
"your right, lets just get on with this, I got class Stuff to do tomorrow. "
and like that, the 5 started. . . when Hau began to book it, they pursued him like wolves after an elk in the wilderness. . .one of the men who had a gun, aimed and fired the tranq shot at Hau. . . aiming for mid body area. . . no need for fancy shots when the needle would just bounce off the skull or puncture the head and kill him. tis unknown if the hounds will catch the fox, or if the fox would lead the hounds off a cliff.
