Clinging toes gripped the inside of the baggy shirt, pushing and pulling, searching for an opening she'd lost once she'd been scooped back into Ash's arms. This would...take some getting used to...
Kira watched their decent from the stairs and stared at the smoking pot and piles of food-things, some of which looked like what Zavijah would find and bring back and others looking very strange and alien in nature. A red heat glowed beneath one of the pots now bubbling on the stove, and Kira was briefly reminded of the hot metal that would often hold the same glow where she was from. But, on a much larger scale.
Once Ash had set her down again, she made to stand but fell awkwardly forward as the shirt refused to free her legs and feet from within their folds. She worried at the sleeves, finally finding an opening and pushed one winged arm through to grasp the bottom edge of the shirt to lift so that she could free her trapped feet. Once she was untangled, she stood at attention, barely catching the end of the orders the giant was now issuing. His attention turned to her after speaking to Ash, and instantly she felt herself shrink down instinctively at his words and the strange 'beep beep beep-ing sound he was mimicking. He had tapped the glowing metal box as he said it, and she stood, eyes wide and glazed with lack of understanding as she watched him turn back to his work.
Kira glanced nervously at the oven, approaching it with the occasional, tangled stumble before reaching out to one of the knobs on the front. They were like the dials her masters had used to regulate different parts of the factory, but in a much smaller scale. Reaching up, she grasped the first one nearest to her and twisted it. A soft ticking of metal could be heard as it began to heat and turn red-orange next to the bubbling pot, but she heard no such beeping noise. That was good, yes? Beeping was never a good thing where she was from...fire and heat was good though, and she reached for the two other unlit knobs with both hands, turning them simultaneously to heat the metal.
Fire good, almost ready and good. She chirruped to herself, one ear forward while the other remained swiveled back in cautious, listening attentiveness.

Ash canted his head slightly to the side as Jedidiah considered what they could do to help. He nodded seriously as Jediidah gestured to the pot, miming that he stir it. He understood! He cast a quick glance to Kira, smiling, then stepped away to begin stirring the pot. Whatever was in it smelled pretty good!
He glanced at Kira now and then, making sure she was doing well. He was a little distressed by all the fires she was starting - the smell of gas wasn't especially pleasant - but she seemed happy with the job at least. After a few moments he took a break from stirring and stepped over to her.
"Keera? Shirt too much big?" He hadn't noticed it quite so much upstairs, but now... He gestured to it, then gently turned her from the stove, bending to gather up some of the loose cloth. He took the handfulls of shirt and gathered them up, then tied them in a loose knot at around hip-height to hopefully keep her from tripping over them. Perhaps he should have looked for something to belt it with while he was upstairs...
"Fix later. If yes?" He glanced up at Jedidiah, unsure if the man would be allright with them altering the shirt. Moments after he looked up, the oven began to beep and he startled, jumping slightly. His hand closed around Kira's shoulder and he pulled her back a step behind him protectively. He stood abruptly, jostling the bowl he had been stirring - but luckily it did not tip or spill.

Jedidiah:
he watched as she stumbled towards the oven, before she was reaching over and turning the element knobs to turn the elements on . . . oi vey. . . he sighed, and patted her head gently. well she is trying. . . so! he has the vegetables cooking, the roast in the oven, the soup started with bacon, and other various ingredients was being sired. . .the ribs were being cooked, and the fruit was ready. Kira has turned all the elements on - and thank God he had the foresight to make the counters out of granite and as well as make the area for the oven a stone placement for it. . . only thing being some holes in the back to allow wires and what not in from behind. supper was going to be a hell of a feast- though he wanted to make enough for the two of them as well as their guest.
best of all, Ash understood what stir was- hes learned another word! or well, its proof he has learned and understands it. while he continued, he glanced over when Ash took a break to check on Kira. . . before turning to him to ask if they can fix later. . . well, considering context- the shirt. he simply smile and nodded. " yes. she needs the shirt more then me. " he replied. " cant have her hurting herself more in a fresh set of clothes. " well, a piece of clothing, rather.
he pondered for a moment in thought. . . one of the nurses gave him a travel sewing kit as a 'home-warming' gift. . . amongest other things the other nurses had put together. . . he gave them thank you letters each for the gift. . . though he set the basket of goods aside somewhere in the house. . . last he remembered, it was on the table? no, it was moved. . . .wait, it was moved to the closet. he will just need to pull it out for them to fix the shirt to where it would fit Kira better.

Their words continued, passed back and forth with fluid understanding while also over Kira's head and beyond her own comprehension. Although, with every mention of her name, Kira's ears would snap in their direction and she would give them her undivided attention.
Both seemed to be regarding her as they worked, discussing something among themselves as well as including her in the conversation. She could only look back and forth between the two of them as each spoke, ears pricked and mouth open in a small "o" of question as if in wonder of what they might be discussing.
Just then, a sharp beeping began to bray from the heated box, and Kira gave a small jump as Ash pushed her swiftly behind him and stood between her and the instrument. Kira's eyes grew wide at the sound and she turned with a pleading look at the giant.
"Beeping, alarm! Danger! Must get out!" She squeaked and pawed at the two of them before bolting for the door. As if in retaliation, the shirt slipped from its tied bundle to instantly collected itself around her ankles in a constricting knot and sent her diving onto the kitchen floor in a belly-slide, arms reaching forward for the door. She gave a fearful glance back and saw the other two had not tried to flee, and were only still busy with their tasks. The beeping continued, calling out its high pitched alarm, much to Kira's dismay, and yet no one but herself heeded it. Scrambling, she pulled and twisted at the shirt to free her legs as she squirmed towards the door. She was creating quite an embarrassment of herself, but it was better than dying in a fiery explosion, in her opinion.

Ash startled when Kira bolted, his fingers closing reflexively a half-second too late to actually catch her. He made a surprised noise, then winced when she tripped and sprawled on her belly. He glanced at Jedidiah uncertainly, then followed after her, making soothing noises.
"All good. Safe. Doktar Jeddy fix." If she let him, he would try to gather her up and usher her into one of the other rooms to calm down. Maybe he could distract her while Jedidiah finished in the kitchen? He glanced back toward the big man again, then tried to lead Keera to the couch, grabbing one of the books on the way. It was the book of animals, the one with glossy realistic images that Dr. Jedi had used to show him what a pihg was.
Ash settled them on the couch and then opened the book, casting a smile at Kira. "Keera want learn? This buk. Buk." He tapped the book as he said the word. "Buk. Ash. Keera. Buk." He tapped the book, then his chest, then hers, then the book again as he said each word, trying to make his meaning clear.

Jedidiah:
when the oven went off he happily exclaimed "ah the roast must be ready!" before he noticed Kira's stumbling escape from the oven. . . . poor thing. hopefully he didn just create a new phobia in the poor bat. . . thank God she doesnt seem to be scared of Ash, and that he was the sort to help her. . . he, himself was probably terrifying the poor thing. . .
he went to open the oven and check on the inside of the roast to see hao cooked it was. . . no raw bits. . . cooked to hell, but not burnt or dried. . . good, it was ready! so he picked the pan up and placed down on the granite counter where it was away from the edge and from combustible things. he then checked on the soup, and the vegetables. . . veggies are done, so he took them off the heat and went to the sink to rinse them to stop them from cooking further. he then drained it of water and set it aside. . . before grabbing the ribs and checking to see if they were cooked all the way. . . .
when they were, he set them on a platter before going back to check on the soup. . . stopping the beeping as he did so. . before turning the actual oven off. . one by one, he turned the burners not in use- but were turned on by kira- off. . . " guys, rest of the food is ready, the soup is almost ready if you guys want to go ahead and start eating. " he stated. " thank you guys for the help around the kitchen, it was really appreciated. " he added sincerely. the soup was coming along nicely. . . the one soup mom was actually able to cook and it was good. . .he then wondered why in every other thing she tries to cook with the exception of a few things would come out absolutely horrid while stuff like this was amazing?
one could only wonder. . .

A shadow fell over Kira as she fought to get her shirt untangled and looked up to see Ash approaching making odd, soothing sounds. Kira slowly paused, looking back towards the oven to see Jedidiah hunched over, pulling something from behind a lowered door before hitting something on the heated box to stop the beeping. Relief flooded Kira as Ash gathered her up, knowing that the giant had stopped the possible explosion. Whatever that thing was that the giant pulled out, she had not even the slightest guess, or why it had set off the alarm.
Kira looked back up at Ash, who had pulled one of the objects from the pile she'd rummaged through earlier and held his shoulders as he carried her to another room. She could still see the other, but was gently placed upon a softened surface before the object was opened to reveal the textured images she remembered from earlier. As Ash spoke, motioning at himself and saying his name, then hers with a tap to her chest, then to the object repeating "buk. buk.", she reached out and touched the textured image quickly, like a monkey wanting to grab at a forbidden piece of fruit. Her arms snapped back just as quickly and she looked back towards the kitchen.
This was all so strange. Why? Why was he not angry? After everything that had happened, both her and Ash would be burned bloody by now and thrown in their quarters for such carelessness and independence. Her head snapped back to Ash and for the first time, tears welled in her eyes, but she held them back as best she could. She was so confused. "Book." She repeated, pleadingly. She wanted to be sure to follow instructions perfectly, but how could she without knowing what was going on? She looked back down at the object he kept tapping, the "buk", and repeated, "Book..." out loud before reaching out slowly to graze a claw across the leathery patch that was the pig, calmer now and less skiddish.
Blinking back the tears, Kira shuddered and tried to calm her racing nerves. The giant, once again, was oblivious of their activities, busy with whatever it was he was doing, and Kira felt exhaustion settle over her. With a quivering sigh, she rested her the side of her head against the back of the couch and pulled her wings in tight to her body. Whatever this place was, it certainly wasn't like home. But, without any certainty of what could be expected, she almost wished something would happen. If the Master was going to be angry, she almost wished he would do it and get it over with. The suspense and anticipation was now almost worse than the act of punishment itself.
Meanwhile, succulent, although alien, smells reached her senses. They had grown stronger the longer she and Ash remained in the living room, and soon they were almost choking with their intensity. Once again, she was reminded of Zavijah, and felt a pang of desire to have Zavijah there with her. Although, Ash had certainly filled the role in the meantime. Leaning forward, Kira nuzzled into Ash's shoulder in a re-positioned shuffle, wanting some kind of comfort from the day's events, as well as whatever was to come. She muttered to him, confessing her earlier behaviors and secret sneakings, knowing he probably couldn't understand her but wanting to confess nonetheless. It...helped, at least, to tell another like herself what she'd done. Maybe if Ash knew, he could help keep her secrets. She spoke about the book in their laps, how she'd already glanced at the pages in secret, about losing her way in the forest, about disobeying her Master's law about returning home, and finally about her curiosity with the new world. She left out Zavijah, not wanting to drag her into this as well. Her words came out in soft, tweeting syllables, clicking and chirruping in her strange, otherworldly dialect.

Ash made a high noise in the back of his throat as he saw Kira's eyes grow damp. He shifted a little, wrapping an arm more tightly about her, and released the book a moment to ruffle her ears. "Book," he agreed, then opened it and flipped through a few pages until he found the one he was looking for. The leathery patch and the pink-skinned creature. "Pihg," he tapped the image, looking to Kira. "Pihg. We eat. Eat." He took a moment to mime eating, then tapped it again. "Pihg."
Once he was sure she understood 'pihg' at least, he flipped back to the beginning and began to name of the creatures he had learned. "Kyat. Soft touch... Snaek. Smooth... Bird. Different soft..." His brow furrowed softly and he paused between names, having to take a moment to remember the different words in this tongue.
After he had paged through it, he let Kira look and turn the pages herself, nuzzling at the top of her head. She seemed to have calmed down, which was good. He was more than happy to cuddle and comfort her, listening when she began to speak, although he couldn't understand what she said. She gestured to the book, to herself, to the room around her. He stroked her fur and hummed softly, trying to keep her calm - she was more animated when she spoke, but she didn't seem afraid, at least.
"Safe here. Safe." He hugged her in emphasis of the word. "Doktar Jeddy good. Safe."

Jedidiah:
He continued to stir the stew until it began to show signs that it was ready - prompting him to lower the temperature as to not burn the stew before he continued to stir it for abit longer. He eventually let it to sit at a simmer to go and inform the others that all the food was ready.
"Hey guys, the food is ready. " he gently informed them before stopping to see that kira was reading? Playing with one of the children's books while ash was trying to comfort her and teaching her from the boom chosen. . . .
He smiled abit before heading for the boxes of books- namely the children's books that he has had for abit longer. . . . . Before pulling out one that was in Mandarin . . . He opened it and glanced through it before smiling and heading back toward the two.
Hopefully she likes stickers. . .the characters looked like they were from Hello Monkey or something similar. He did grab Ash some dragon stickers at one point along with some animal stickers and what not but he set them down somewhere and has no clue which box of children's books they were buried in. . . He needs to find em. Wait, he did place em in one of the books showing pictures of dragons. . . .crap which one would that be?

At the sound of Ash's humming, Kira quieted from her rambling to listen to the oddly comforting sound. She'd never quite heard it before, it sounded so...perfect. Without knowing the concept of music, she couldn't quite place how it sounded perfect, just that it had a certain predictability about it. Her ears twitched with every turn of the melody, and in a few moments, she found herself staring transfixedly up at Ash as if he were some new and wonderous thing.
"Safe here. Safe." he said, tightening his hold on her gently, "Doktar Jeddy good. Safe."
The words flowed past her understanding, but his tone and posture were both relaxed and comforting.
Just then, the sound of heavy footsteps approached from the kitchen, making Kira tense slightly in Ash's arms.
"Hey guys, the food is ready." The giant said, and at the sound of his voice, Kira made to stand from where she sat, pulling from the circle of Ash's arms. The giant had since turned his back, rummaging through more of the strange rectangular objects that she and Ash had currently been examining, and she made a fumbling grab for the one they'd been using. Her tears had ghosted into a hidden dampness, dried quickly by the giant's arrival. As he turned, Kira was already hunkered at his feet, tail curled over her own feet and holding out the book to him in trembling hands. "Buhk,...book. Pihg. Eat. K-...Kyaaht." She said, her voice quavering slightly and mind racing to recall some of the odd words Ash had spoken to her. Every so often, her ears would swivel back towards Ash, listening for any more of the strange words in case he were to repeat them. If he did, she would quickly overlap his words with her own as if jolted into remembering them. Her fear had subsided greatly thanks to Ash's attempts to comfort her, but with the giant now in the room, she wanted only to please and keep him happy if that meant avoiding any kind of possible abuse.

Ash could smell the food cooking in the other room, the savory aroma of it drawing a small measure of his attention. Even if cooked meat wasn't his favorite, it smelled good, all of it together with the vegetables and the grains. He glanced toward the kitchen once, but for the most part tried to keep his focus on Kira.
He wanted to keep her calm and happy, and he smiled into her fur, nuzzling the top of her head as he felt her relaxing. When they had flipped through most of the book, he turned it back, gently taking her hand to guide it to the images as he said the words - at least the ones he knew. "Pihg. Kyat. Snaek. Bird..."
When he felt her tense he made a small distressed noise, then a soft thrumming sort of sound, meant to soothe. He held onto her a moment more, then let her get up, taking the book with her. He pushed to his feet as well and straightened his rumbled shirt, then padded up behind her, his head cocked to the side as he listened to her recitation of the words without seeming to understand the meaning.
After a moment he moved to kneel down beside her, settling with his legs folded, seated upon his heels. He touched the book gently, tapped the cover. "This. Book." He repeated this a few times then opened to the page with the soft fur. If Kira let him, he would take her hand and place it lightly over the fur. "Seltur. Soft. Jinthil?" He got his lip in his teeth, biting back any further words in his own tongue. "Soft. Kyat. This. Kyat."
He waited a moment then turned the page to the next, the pebbly-smooth dried shed of a snake. If she didn't move to touch the page on her own, he would again gently move her hand to it, making a soft questioning noise. Did she remember this one?

Jedidiah:
He blinked in confusion as Kira started to studder words to try and form a sentence. 'Book, pig, eat cat?' He gently smiled and patted her on the head gently
" yes, that is a book. I see Ash is showing you and teaching you things, kira. This is good. " he stated, speaking with a gentle tone as to not startle her. He patted ash on the shoulder and giving him a smiling nod to show he was doing good. Before he glanced back at the book she was offering, before he in turn offered them a book.
"I'm not sure if I showed you this ash, but this book has stickers if you and kira would like to see. " he offered. He then crouched down and opened the book, flipping it to one of the pages full of stickers before showing them.
"These are called 'stickers'. They stick onto things, like books, paper, walls. " he explained before showing ash hao to peel one off and gave him the sticker- so he could do what he wanted with it. Play with the adhesive back and what not. . . .
He then remove another sticker and offered it to kira. . . Hopefully shes not too afraid of him. . . .

Kira curled down almost flat to the ground instinctively from the large, incoming hand that made to pat her head. Her eyes squeezed shut in an involuntary flinching expression as she did this, and when the hand tapped her head gently, she slowly opened them to stare up at the giant.
"Yes, that is a book. I see Ash is showing you and teaching you things, Kira. This is good."
Her eyes shifted to Ash who had seated himself next to her unexpectedly and timidly allowed his hand to guide hers back to the textured book. She swallowed and focused on the smoother, snake-like page before stumbling for the word to describe it.
"P-...Kyat...K-" She made a small, panicked noise. Something wasn't right, this wasn't the right word. "Sn-snack? Snack?" She tapped the page and glanced with hopeful fear at the two men. The giant, it seemed and much to Kira's relief as her error may have gone unnoticed, was now digging through the pile of books. She shuffled slightly closer, wings tucked tightly to her body with a few questioning glances back towards Ash and then hoped back as Jedidiah turned with book in hand. The object looked no bigger than a pamphlet in the giant's hands, but as he opened it, he pulled something from one of the pages and held it out to them.
"These are called 'stickers'. They stick onto things, like books, paper, walls." Jedidiah gave one of the small, flat sheets to Ash and then removed another for Kira. She took it gingerly, thin claws dwarfed by the larger digits of Jedidiah's hand and was amazed to find that it suck instantly to the flat of her finger. When she drew her hand back, no longer grasping it, it remained stubbornly stuck to her nonetheless rather than falling to the ground. Quickly, she reached and plucked the sticker from her finger, holding it now as it stuck to the palm of her other wing before her wrist spasmed in a flicking motion. The sticker stuck tighter and Kira sniffed at it curiously. It didn't hurt, although it did pull at her fur like a prickly bug. She looked to Ash for suggestions, unsure of what to do next. The sticker itself was also a 2-D illusion, and the picture fascinated her. It was like having a tiny creature clinging to you, but it was not alive and did not move.
Kira nibbled at the edge of it, palm to mouth like a rodent, and eventually she began to struggle with the adhesive that was now clinging to one lip and a tooth. To the others, the scene might've made for a hilarious pet video, as the Burbat proceed to wipe both wings over her face, licking and biting at the sticker that passed from lip to paw to nose to wing to eyebrow, constantly peeling and resticking itself in a different spot.
