Kira managed one last suffocating strangle-hold before the scaled female finally peeled her from her grip and slipped from the giant's hands. The terrified Burbat reached and recoiled, changing her mind in wanting to cling to the woman in favor of focusing on the dive-bombing bird as it swooped and clawed and pecked at the Master figure's head.
This is so bad, this is all my fault. If I hadn't been making all that noise this never would've-
Kira shrieked, ducked back into a ball and rolled in the giant's palm as he swatted and grabbed for one of the bird's legs. There was a sound of breaking bones, not unlike the crackling of flames as they ate at the wood she was so used to feeding the hungry fires of her home world. An ear-splitting caw of pain escaped the bird as the giant broke its leg in 3 places while desperately beating him with black wings to escape.
Guilt and fear rattled Kira's mind as she risked another glance from within her folded wings and also caught sight of Ash, struggling with his own feathered monstrosity.
This was all her fault. All her fault.
Kira swallowed as she fought internally to reach a decision, heart hammering away in her chest. She had to do something, otherwise she might be put to death for her incompetence. Something she might already be facing, so what could be worse?
Pushing herself free of the man's palm, Kira managed to slip from his grip- Master forgive me...- and dropped towards the ground. Just before landing, her wings unfurled, catching wind almost immediately, and she shot in a 90 degree angle straight back up towards the sky. One of the feathered creatures attacking the giant, who still had unbroken legs and an empty belly, spotted her and made a B-line straight for its prey. Kira took no notice, and instead made a B-line of her own towards the thing chasing after Ash. With fur hackled in fear and desperation as she closed the distance in her pursuit, Kira elicited a squeaking war-cry fueled simply by her own fear-induced stupidity, and collided with the buzzard. All in all, she only managed to bounce off of it and tumble sideways in an awkward corkscrew but at least managed to halt it in its chase for a short moment. As the ground rushed up once more to meet her, she worked to right herself, panting heavily with anxiety as her wings once more filled with wind, and then forced herself back around for another go. If she could just....distract it, maybe she could lead it away.
Just as she bounced off the bird a second time, her much lighter frame only managing to get tangled for a moment in the larger creature's beating wings, when suddenly she saw a second dark flash rush in from behind her only to collide just after her into the vulture-thing that had been chasing her friend. This other body was much MUCH heavier than her own emaciated weight, and successfully sent both hurtling towards the ground in a flurry of oily feathers and flailing wings. Kira banked sharply, staring down at the tumbling birds with a gaze fixed with awe and terror, before heading back towards Ash. She called after him with quick pulses of echolocation, hoping he would hear her and come back to her. Now, she just needed to lead the other away from their Master, and all would be right. At least, she hoped it would...Already the dazed birds were struggling to pick themselves up from the trees they were stuck in to continue their chase, and Kira was beginning to panic again. She need to get back to the giant, and so she spun about once more in midair and dove back towards the ground and the flailing bird in the man's grip. Keeping her wings as level as possible in her dive, she pulled off another successful dive-bomb, bonking the creature right across it's naked, bald head. The razor beak that pecked at the man's head bobbed violently before swiveling up to snap at whatever had dared attack it from above.

Ash's breath caught in his throat in a moment of shock and dread as Keera's small form shot out of the trees and struck the bird-thing that had been close on his tail. He had just caught himself against a tree branch, but as she fell away from the dark-feathered form he cried out, his voice wavering: "No! Coi ui korth!"
He was terrified that it had injured her, had killed her, and his heart beat hard in his chest as he shoved himself off the branch, back into the air. He bared his fangs at the bird and hissed, his crest fanning out in a mix of fear and dread-fueled anger. His form blurred abruptly, the span of his wings more than doubling as his body lengthened and grew into a more bestial (and more dragon-like) form. His maw parted and he roared, lunging for the bird-creature.
He managed to bring himself up short when he saw Keera shoot up again to strike the bird - her tiny body little more than a flash of movement at the edge of his vision, but a second much larger body followed behind her. The two birds smashed into one another, wings tangling, and began to fall in a confusion of feathers and limbs. A heavy wingbeat brought him a little higher, and he craned his head, looking from one side to another, searching for Keera. He found her due to her squeaking calls, and he turned toward her to follow her down.
Ash reached for her, but she flitted easily past his taloned hands. A low distressed noise rumbled in his throat, but before he could try to catch her again and draw her to safety, he saw that the two birds that had crashed into one another were rising into the air again. He hissed, his crest flattening, then turned to drop on them.
The higher of the two shrieked as his talons raked its back, and he darted his head down to sink his teeth into its wing again. His bite more formidable in this form, he jerked his head and felt bones crack as he ripped at the wing. He clutched at the bird a moment and then awkwardly dropped it to swipe at the other - but the other bird had enough time to dodge his swipe, dropping away from its draconic opponent.

Jedidiah:
he scrambled to try and keep a hold of her before keera squirmed out of his grip. . . . he could only watch as she flew off and the bird flew off after her. . . he tried to grab the damn bird, failing from hao quickly it went after her. . . he groused. . . what can he do?! hes grounded compared to the other two. . . it was happening fast. .
wait. . .
he pulled his gun out and switched the safety off. . . he took a breath and aimed at the birds. . . seeing one of them dodging Ash's attack, he took his aim where only the bird would get hit and fired for the chest of the bird, . . . the bullets he had were huge, unlike a normal pistol. . . .the desert griffin he made was much larger then a desert eagle. . . just as scary if not more so, since it's power was proportionate to its smaller counter part in size. having just as brutal of a kick, but his strength made it seem less so. . .
the bullet struck through, tearing a huge hole into the bird as it ripped through its chest and chest cavity. . . ripping into the heart of the bird. . .he did not see where the other bird went. . . hopefully the other two are alright? . . . thank God he was a doctor, otherwise he doesn't believe he would be of much use once the fight dies down. . .he was far from stoic, unlike his father. . . he was panicking, but he is able to detach hao his body moves, verse hao his emotions effect his aim. . . "oi, are you two alright?!" he called at Ash and Keera.

Kira fled, from whatever shadows her mind conjured up in the midst of the madness. Even as she brought one bird crashing into the other, she thought she imagined dark talons nearly closing around her before she ricocheted from the buzzard and fell away. Now that the two birds had tumbled to the ground and she had called to Ash, she turned to see that there was in fact some other monstrosity that was now airborne.
It looked, almost, like Ash. But....again, it was different. It's face was different, it's body was more different. Bigger, meaner looking. Kira's heart jumped at the sight of it, and as it clamped its maw over one of the birds, Kira decided not to stick around to find out just what this other thing was. Instead, she headed back towards the Master figure, even as the second bird soared past Ash and its companion to chase after her once again.
Suddenly, an explosive sound erupted somewhere from the ground. The concussive noise hammered Kira's whole body, rocking her from her line of flight and in the corner of her vision she witnessed some invisible thing rip the bird behind her to shreds. It's entire middle simply imploded with feathers and blood, sending it back and down to the ground in a series of weak death throes. Kira's ears rang from the sound, and for a moment she felt frozen where she was in midair, her mind reeling from the terrible noise.
I need to get to Master! What was that!? She thought crazily as she banked sharply and shot like a dart towards the ground. The tall figure held some kind of long, shiny thing that smoked on one end, as the broken bird in his grip also fought weakly against its foe. Kira clumsily flitted to a landing, stumbling awkwardly as she sprinted towards the giant. The bird flapped and pecked at his side, its leg still trapped in his grip, and from below Kira skid to a stop at his feet to reach up and pull at the feathered thing. She pulled clump after clump of oily black feathers from the bird's wings, hissing and chittering her own displeasure at its presence. To her, it seemed the thing was clinging to the Master figure in a desperate attack, rather than actually being held.
At one point, the dazed buzzard's head swiveled around and swung its beak at the Burbat reaching up to it from below, locking the points of its beak onto her left shoulder for a brief moment before being ripped back away by the giant. Kira felt hot pain as the pointed tips tore through skin and muscle of her left shoulder, causing her to shrink back with one hand clasped over the wound and her left wing curled to her chest. The wound wasn't bad, but it was most definitely unexpected. Kira whimpered, still hissing and flaring her good wing at the creature, but recoiling all the same back towards a large bush to avoid getting bit again.

Ash's head swiveled and he beat his way up a little higher, looking for any other airborne targets, then dropping down to follow the bird that had chased Kira down into the trees. He lowered himself carefully into the trees, trying not to break too much with his descent. A sudden loud *boom* startled him, however, and he dropped a short distance before he caught himself. It was an unpleasantly familiar sound, though louder than the last such he had heard. He waited for the burn of metal piercing his scales, but when it did not come after a moment, he dropped the rest of the way to the ground.
Ash landed heavily on his hindlimbs, then lowered to all four. There were bits of bird scattered around the clearing, but he didn't have time to wonder what had happened. Another bird was atop Jedidiah, and he surged forward to clamp his jaws on the creature around the join between wing and neck. He bit down hard and yanked back, meaning to tear the creature away from the big man.

Jedidiah:
he holstered his gun, when he witnessed Keera being tore into in the shoulder region by one of the birds remaining. . his heart sank, good lord, why did she do that?. . . he pulled her away from the bird in result of this. . . when Ash swooped in and grabbed the bird, he released it, seeing it wasnt going to have much of an advantage with a broken leg. . . so he set to trying to mend Kira's injury. . . . he carefully took the bat in arms, and turned her over to look at the wound. . . before setting to work cleaning it and mending it. . . he was the ambulance when he worked in the mountains after residency. . . " dont worry Keera, i need you to stay still so i can patch you up. " he stated gently. "I am about to start stitching you up, ok?" he pulled out the sutures from his kit and set to work. his hand working at a steady and quick beat. . .
skillfully pulling flesh together and mending them to where no part of her skin overlapped awkwardly, no gap formed, before stiching the skin, he overlooked the muscle tissue and stitched where he needed before moving onto the skin. . . . granted, she would feel every bit of it, and he was abit on edge from the fight. . .but work mode, is work mode. he moved at a plenty fast enough pace where the pain wasnt prolonged, yet slow enough to avoid mistakes. . . . thank God she does not have any tattoos. . .
when the first of the major slashes were sealed up with stitching. . . .he overlooked her for any other cut or wound to patch up before wrapping the area with bandages, and adjusting her in his grip where he held her like a child. "Ash, you alright? lets go home before more come." he called to his dragonic friend.

Just as Kira had turned to move away and head for the bush, something grabbed her from behind. For one terrible moment, she thought she had been caught by the monstrous creatures. The image of curled, blackened claws closing over her made her flounder and grab desperately at the bush as whatever had taken hold of her pulled her up and away from her hiding spot with relative ease. Whirling around as if to grab and push away at her captor, burs sprang reflexively from her wrists, stopping mere centimeters from the flesh of the giant now holding her to examine the wound. Kira chirruped in surprise, ears flattening and pulled her arms to herself to refrain from accidentally stabbing the giant.
What did she almost do?? If she'd let those things in her arms stab their master...they'd-
But her thoughts were cut short as the giant turned her about in his grip, examining the area of her shoulder that had been damaged. Although Kira had barely registered its existence, there was a spreading warmth where blood now seeped from the pinched wound down her shoulder and side, wetting her fur in a sort of Y shape. She froze, staring up at him as he fumbled about and produced some odd looking objects. They somewhat reminded her of what Zavijah often kept with her, but they were different as well.
A sound nearby momentarily drew Kira's attention from the giant and the objects, as she noticed the larger "Ash" creature land and begin to finish off the bird which had bitten her moments ago. She stared in horror as it was ripped to shreds, scattering feathers and blood across the leafy floor, before screeching in surprise as something stung at her shoulder. The grip holding her tightened, and soon she was craning her neck back around towards the giant, crying fearfully up at him as he worked. In her mind, she did not understand what he was doing. She'd hurt herself in her stupidity, could he perhaps be amplifying that to teach her a lesson? Kira huddled, gripping his hand back as he worked, trembling under the pain while crying apologies up to him. Every so often, she would glance forward to the Ash-creature as if begging for help, although she knew he couldn't do anything about it. Luckily, the wound itself wasn't all that bad, and soon the work was done.
The stitches held beautifully and soon Kira was cradled in the giant's arms. She continued to whimper like a scolded child, holding her bruised but mended shoulder with a cupped hand before checking it. He'd closed it right up, as if it were never there? Normally, the master race never bothered with such repairs on her kind, and those who were injured were left either to die or tend to their own wounds. With a shaky sigh, Kira looked between the giant and the Ash-creature with confusion. The giant had spoken to the Ash-creature, and had confirmed it was indeed Ash when he used Ash's name, in a tone that suggested everything was now ok. There was a major lack of anger, rage, or frustration from the entire ordeal and Kira found that even stranger than the monsters who'd just tried to eat them all for dinner.

His jaws clamped on the bird-thing, Ash yanked it back and shook it until he felt its neck snap. Once he was sure it was dead, he dropped it, spitting out oily feathers and grimacing at the rancid taste of it. He took a moment, surveying their surroundings for further threats, then took another moment to rub his muzzle against the ground to remove some of the blood. He wished he could take a mouthful of water to wash away the taste but...
Once he was done his attention turned back to Jedidiah and Kira. He took a half-step closer then stopped, realizing the form he wore. He shifted back, his body blurring into his smaller but still scaled form. He felt cuts and bruises following him through the hange, but none of them were especially bad. He crouched where he had stood, lifting a hand to smooth out his crest and settling his wings against his back before he stood and came nearer.
Doktar Jeddy was doing... something? to Keera, leaning over her and working with his hands. As he drew nearer he saw that the big man was sewing a wound on her shoulder closed.
"Jaci ui winidir coi," Ash's voice was low, soothing, as he drew close enough to rest a taloned hand lightly on the small creature's uninjured arm. "He fix," he repeated in awkward english, patting her arm.
His golden gaze flicked up to focus on Doktar Jeddy, his crest lifting slightly. "Go," he agreed, nodding slightly. He patted Keera's arm one more time then stepped back, fanning his wings out slightly. "I... watch? Si geou nakta thesek ihk throdenilt rekisixi."
He took another step back, then crouched and leaped, beating his wings to gain height. He would follow their progress from above and keep an eye out for any further threats. He was a bit shaken by the attack, but he couldn't afford to show it just now; not until they were somewhere safer.

Jedidiah:
he nodded, sort of understanding what he said, but not quite. . . it is all good, they are currently working on that. he looked around before realizing he cant see the house. . . he frowned abit before he sighed. . . he braced Kira against him before he hopped up twice, using his weight to rumble the ground abit while Ash was in the air, before standing quietly. .
Toof Toof!
click click
his ear twitched before he turned towards a direction, as faint as it was, he could hear it. . before he started to head in that direction. a bit of a loud clicker in his basement, but it worked well enough, a motion sensor in his leg, and a receiver in the clicker and it gets the job done- though if he couldnt hear it he would of been better off just heading for the city first, then walking along the treeline to get to the clinic, before to his house. . . . good lord they were a bit a ways from the house. . . .
he adjusted his grip on Kira where she was again, cradled in his arm, before he waved for Ash to follow. "this way, Ash. " he called to his friend.

Kira remained obediently still any time she was shifted about in the giant's grip, trying her best to quiet her whimpering in case it got on the giant's nerves. Ash had begun to speak, not at all bothered by the giant's presence, as if the two were more friends than subordinate and master. Kira shot a nervous glance from Ash to the giant, expecting some kind of scolding to Ash's willingness to speak out. But...there was none. And soon Ash had launched himself into the air, beating large wings to lift himself up above the treeline.
Kira made a small twitching motion as if to take off and join him, thinking they were now expected to spring into motion. However, the giant held her firmly in his arms, and she didn't even manage to budge from where she was. She gave another nervous glance in Jedidiah's direction, hoping she hadn't tried to move out of line, but he suddenly leapt into the air as if to follow Ash, or so it seemed.
Well, almost. He couldn't fly of course, that's what Burbats were for, but he did jump a few times and Kira's ears pricked at the strange clicking sounds that followed. Her head snapped almost immediately in the direction of Jedidiah's house like a compass, and before she knew it, they were trudging in that direction.
Time passed slowly, and the woods seemed to stretch on forever. Kira remained huddled in the giant's arms, her trembling slowly calming to a few occasional shivers. Her shoulder began to ache where the pinched flesh was bruised, but Kira pushed it from her mind in favor of focusing on staying still so as not to draw attention to herself. Overhead, the moon shone in dappled, soft white light that played across the forest floor through the branches overhead. Despite her predicament, Kira found herself entranced by this effect, staring fixedly at the spots of moonlight that glided across the giant's arms and onto her own body in shimmering patterns. It was like nothing she'd ever seen before from....well, where she'd come from before. Through even her fear and confusion, Kira still found she was in constant awe of the striking beauty and life that this world, if it was in fact another world, contained.
After an hour or so of hiking, they finally reached their destination. Kira felt that familiar anxiety begin to creep back into her heart after the calm solitude of the walk, as she began to dread what might come next.
--------------------------------------------------
Back at the attack site of the birds, when the others were well and clear of his position, a shadowed figure suddenly dropped from where he had been hiding in a perfectly camouflaged nook of a tree. From his vantage point, he'd watched the entire exchange from start to finish, and once the group of Supers had departed and were a safe distance along their way, he lowered himself to a crouch and dropped silently to stand near the battered corpse of a buzzard. Kneeling down, his full-body black suit, armed with all assortment of tools and weapons, made not even a whisper of sound. Looking all the part of a ninja, the mysterious figure pulled a clump of feathers back away from one of the bird's legs to reveal a small white tag. Numbers, embossed into the surface, painted in red ink and smeared with blood, were visible upon the tag's surface. The figure gave a small, sly smile beneath his face mask. Well, that made my job a lot easier... he thought to himself. Since these experiments had gotten out of their containment earlier that day, he had been sent to eliminate them before the WDSA had the chance to do it themselves. Thanks to this group, he was saved the dirty work, except for the one that took the wolf but he was sure it would be no match for its much larger captured opponent. That problem would solve itself. But his interest and curiosity had been peaked towards them nonetheless. A giant with extensive strength, provision and field dressing skills, a draconic being with shape shifting abilities (perhaps even a full blooded dragon, or better!), and some kind of flight-capable mammalian that was clearly not of any species he'd ever seen here on Earth....
The figure stood, looking out towards the path the group had taken through the woods and considered following. But, three against one seemed like unlikely odds and a stupid decision all around.
No. He would report back, log what he'd seen, and perhaps...perhaps they could be added to their collection as well if they ever were to request it. After all, he was their best contact for new subjects. The abundance and variety of Supers never ceased to fail him in getting new jobs and requests from his clients. Nor did it ever let his bank account become empty.

The flight back to the house was relatively uneventful. Ash kept himself fairly low, near the tops of the trees, occasionally landing on a branch to look around while Doktar Jeddy and Keera moved below. Nothing especially large moved in the air - certainly nothing as large as the birds that had attacked them. Still he remained alert, worried that something wood swoop in from a blind-spot.
Ash was glad when they finally reached the house. He circled it once, making sure it was safe, then dropped down to the big tree beside the house, climbing down the trunk to the ground. He shifted to his softer form when he reached the ground and nearly staggered as the weight of his wings left him. Once he was sure of his feet, he jogged to meet Doktar Jeddy and Keera as they reached the door.

Jedidiah:
when they finally got to the house, he wasted no time getting his keys out and unlocking the door, ushering Ash inside before taking Keera inside as well, shutting the door behind himself and locking it, but not before Ash went through the door.
after such was to happen, he would then turn the lights on, before sighing, and gently setting Keera down on a chair. . . his back was dripping with blood, from where the birds tore into his back and nape. . . .oi vey, he might have to call in one of the nurses from work to help patch him up. . . . glancing over at Ash, he then noticed the shape Ash was in as well. . .
first things first. . . he walked over to the kitchen and opened the cabinet above the left corner bend of the counter open, revealing it was a medicine cabinet. . .before he turned to look at Ash and gestured him to come over. " ash, come here. . . let me patch you up. your wounded." he finally voiced in a gently tone.

Kira gazed in wide-eyed wonder as they approached a structure nestled into the mountainside. In fact, it was even built partially into the mountainside. However, unlike the colossal metal and fire factories she grew up around and served through sweat and blood, this structure seemed minuscule in size compared to them despite the fact anyone else on earth might say the house was enormous for what it was. Looking all around, Kira tried her best to spot any kind of smoke or sign of where the fires of this master might be burning, but found she could find neither the dense black of smog nor the red glow of the giant furnaces in sight.
So, if this wasn't a factory, what was it? Kira looked from the giant, "Doctor Jedidiah" to Ash, as if to ask what was expected next? Was she to receive her assigned work now, or did they have something else in their plans?
As they stepped inside, they came into a kitchen that was several times larger than a normal kitchen. Normal furniture and appliances would be dwarfed in comparison to those found within this structure, not that Kira would know any better. Once Jedidiah had closed the door, he set Kira upon a nearby over-sized chair and then turned to Ash. Kira huddled there, curling her feet beneath herself on the wooden surface of the chair's seat and watched in nervous curiosity as the giant approached Ash.
They spoke, words that fell upon Kira's ears in a confusing mess of syllables and sounds. She chittered quietly to herself, mostly still trying to keep up with everything that was going on, and now that their attention was off of her, she allowed her gaze to wander about the space, examining all of the different objects. It was like being in a cave, but with smoother, cleaner surfaces and not a single iron or metal surface in sight except for the stovetop and a few pans. As Jedidiah set about tending to Ash's wounds, Kira felt that familiar prickle of her "disease", which had been diagnosed as "curiosity" spark questions in her mind with each thing she laid eyes upon.
What was that? What was this? That thing over there is strange, what is it? She fidgeted, still staring fixedly around the room until her eyes landed on a stack of books that sat on a nearby counter. Standing, and with a flick of eyes in the other's direction, Kira found they were more than preoccupied with whatever they were doing and slowly reached out to the pile. Every instinct in her body screamed at her that this was a bad idea, it was a horrible idea, she would get caught, but she ignored them. With her fingers resting on the book's cover, she silently slid it from the pile and hugged it into her wings as if to hide it, crouching like a monkey on a ledge. With one last darting glance, she lowered herself into more of a seated position, setting the book on her lap and eased the cover open. Within, she oggled at the brightly colored lines and images upon the pages. It was....like nothing she'd ever seen before. She ran a claw over the surface, expecting to feel some kind of texture, but it was smooth as skin and the colors remained where they were.

Ash preceded Jedidiah and Kira inside, but he paused in the doorway to let the big man lead. When Kira was set down, he smiled at her and reached to ruffle her ears with his soft-skinned hand. "Coi geou qe bensvelk," he murmured soothingly, then stepped away to follow Jedidiah as the big man beckoned him over.
He hadn't stopped to take stock of his own wounds beyond that they weren't crippling. He knew the flying creature's talons had sunk into his leg, and he favored that leg, limping slightly when he walked. But nothing had been broken, and the exhaustion he felt was from holding that larger form for so long and the crash as the adrenaline rush wore off, rather than from bloodloss.
He winced slightly as he pulled himself up into a chair the giant gestured him toward, then hiked up the leg of his pants to show the claw marks in his thigh. That was the worst of what he had gotten - other nicks and scrapes made themselves apparent to him the longer he assessed himself, but none of them were especially deep. They'd heal in a day or so, probably.
As Jedidiah tended his injured leg, he examined the big man's wounds in turn, concerned by the amount of blood-scent emanating from the man. He laid a hand gently on the big man's arm. "You hurt. Bad?"

Jedidiah:
he looked over the wound, grimacing at the state it was at before setting to work on mending the leg. . . " your leg not broken. . .thats good. . needs to be stitched though. " he stated as he worked. . .cleaning the wound before setting to work. . . just as he carefully tended to Keera's wound with a steady but quick pace, he did so for Ash's wound. making sure tendons and muscles were ok, and stitching them where as needed to help instigate healing correctly, before checking over them once more and stitching the skin back together.
"You hurt. Bad?" ash asked. . .he pondered abit on the answer. . .
". . . yes. . . deep cuts, need stitches . . . it will be alright. . . " he replied, he smiled at the dragonic, although in pain, he didn really want to let ash worry. . . but he cant lie to the guy either- he wasnt a child, they were just language blocked abit. " i think nurse Abby might be up still, or one of the other nurses at the clinic. . . " he added, before looking at the clock and grimacing. " . . . . though. . . its rather late. . ." he grimaced. he highly doubted they would appreciate being woken up at 2 in the morning to stitch one of the doctors up. . .
he glanced over at Keera when he finished stitching Ash's wound before chuckling abit. . . well, at least she seems alright. . . he then looked over Ash's leg again, before glancing over to Ash's other wounds. ". . . . well. . . minor bumps and scraps from what it looks like. . . " he commented. " a few cuts, but no stitches are needed . . .will need to clean them though."
