Simon enters, eyeing up the coffee machine.
"Oh, pretty well! Getting a lot done, the whole thing. How's your night going, fella?"

"Ever a man of few words, aren't you?" Nagi chuckled at Aaron as they went. He was the last into the break room, and as he passed he chimed a quiet 'thank you' to Aaron for holding the door. Already his familiar was hopping up and down the counter tops, searching for something.
"I am not built for night work!" the kirin lamented with an overly dramatic groan. He felt his way forward to a row of cabinets in the quest for a clean mug. "Last time I cover a late shift, I tell ya. I don't get how anyone manages it, short of being a vampire. How do you even?"

Aaron glanced pointedly at the coffee machine, and then to Simon, a commiserating stare. The three agents were converging on the spot, armed with their empty mugs. The answer to Nagi's question was pretty obvious.
Probably just making conversation, he decided. A rhetorical question. The agent chose not to answer, his silence indicative of a shrug rather than overt discomfort. He took his place at the back of the line, waiting patiently. Aaron could afford to. He was probably the biggest night owl out of the lot of them.

"heh, I don't know pal." Simon eyes the coffee levels in the pot. Maybe if he took half a mug, they'd a be okay? He's a horrible judge of coffee levels.

"Well, I suppose it could be worse. At least we're in good company," Nagi chimed, merry in disposition even when tired.
During the idle chit-chat, Okudo busily hopped and fluttered up and down the length of the counter. First he collected sweetener packets from a basket at one end - piling them up in a tidy little stack - and then was off to the other end. There, the bird managed to manipulate open a drawer, from which he dutifully retrieved one of the break room's communal spoons. This was aligned neatly next to the sweeteners. Then it was off to find one of the little single-serve cups of creamer. The bird made quick work with collecting it all.
It finally paused near the coffee machine itself. The animal surveyed the liquid burbling and steaming within the pot, then glanced to the row of gentlemen approaching with mugs in hand, then looked back at the pot. Feathers fluffed, beak clacked. The jay strutted down the counter, eyeing them each in turn, then stared up at them all unblinking and said, "Muri."*
Nagi frowned. It seemed that their salvation from the night shift blues would be cut short. There was only enough coffee for two of them.

Aaron didn't understand Japanese, but he could see perfectly well what the problem was. It was no skin off his back, he thought, though with a slightly wistful pang. He was used to all-nighters and could do fine without. Besides, he wasn't in the mood for 'no, you's tonight.
He turned incidentally, as if the thought had just occurred to him, and abandoned the line to make his way over to the vending machine instead. Here, he pretended to debate between Doritos and bag pretzels. He didn't have cash in his pockets and knew it. That was fine. It gave him an excuse to 'discover' the fact in front of the others. With a regretful shake of his head, he turned to leave. Maybe he really would come back with cash. But then, once he sat down and got back to his work, it was unlikely he'd get up again for a few hours.

Well. Simon respects Okudo. He respects this bird. whatever this bird is Simon watched as one of their companions split off to inspect the vending machine, then walk off. Maybe he didn't have his cash on him? Simon thought about offering to pay for the snack, but throws that into the garbage. That would be kinda awkward. they've just been going on this coffee adventure, and he doesn't want to be all weird. He resolves to make fresh coffee after he pours his cup, and then he can bring it to Eric. Would that be more weird? Oh geeze.
