Simon stretched, twisting from side to side to crack his back. Amazingly, his paperwork was almost done, and he'd only been sitting at his desk for ... an unknown amount of hours. It had been six when he came into work. Some god must have been smiling upon him. The short wolf man rarely found himself finishing his work ahead of time, and to be honest he wasn't sure what to do with himself now. Simon stood and retrieved his cellphone, checking his texts and emails for anyone who's case he was on who needed any help. Nothing, other than a vampire thanking him for the umbrella suggestion.
He eyed his empty coffee cup. If his work was at standstill for a moment, and he was out of coffee, maybe he could justify a short break to himself. The hairy man closed his laptop and left his desk, wandering away to find a coffee pot. Maybe he could even rustle up a donut.

The situation was critical.
Aaron moved down the hall at an urgent pace, eyes roving the dark rooms with a deadly focus. The dim outlines of a meeting room. A quiet staff room. Nothing there. He kept searching, heading for the nearest break room. He didn't usually go beyond the nearest machine - he had that one down to a science - but the usual wasn't an option tonight. Freaking Waters.
There. A little Keurig in that room - not ideal, but completely acceptable. He marched toward it only to make an abrupt u-turn as a jittery-looking fey buzzed out from the doorway. No. No way. He'd learned from experience never to drink a fairy-made brew. He'd keep looking. Or he'd go out. It was probably time he stretched his legs a bit. He looked up as footsteps rounded the corner and nodded, recognizing another caffeine-seeker as the man came level with him.
"That one's toast," he said, nodding back the way he'd come. "Hydromancer tried to 'improve the boiler.'"

Simon greeted the guy, gesturing with his coffee cup and smiling. Alas, poor coffee. He'd need a new plan.
" Oh dear. Didn't learn from the last 'improvement' huh?" He chuckled, but was a little disappointed his targeted coffee machine was... 'enhanced'. "One of these days, they're either gonna make some real kickbutt coffee, or have to start buyin' the new machines." He waved his mug again for emphasis. He paused to think about where else there could be coffee. Downstairs? The gnomes usually had that one full. Of something.

As if sensing Simon's thoughts, a pair of fae came fluttering past them - unseelie, Aaron recognized by the wing shape - twittering friendly acknowledgement. Seeing the mugs in their hands, the pair raised tiny mugs of their own, each one sized for a dollhouse. As incomprehensible as the squeaking chirrups were, their invitation was obvious as they drifted over Aaron's shoulder - back toward the room the agent had avoided just minutes before.
Aaron declined, a parting wave. With his back to the pair, he widened his eyes meaningfully at his fellow invitee and shook his head once, imperceptibly. That Keurig was built to accommodate smaller users and whatever modifications they might make. Repeated incidents had taught him that fae often liked to add pranks as much as quality of life improvements. It seemed to him a waste of a perfectly good coffee machine.

Simon watched the fae parade past, and, as he remembered the time he'd had spider coffee, politely declined with a wave too. He'd had to pick legs out of his teeth.
He grinned widely at Aaron, and clasped both hands around his mug. He was so glad this was his normal life. He couldn't imagine having co-workers who just left their dishes in the sink. Forget about microwaving fish, try having someone microwave eel tea. "I'm not sure about you, but, ah. I'm thinking 'bout just makin a coffee run."

“Mm,” Aaron agreed.
The two men fell into step, apparently headed the same direction. That was fine with the agent. It was admittedly a little awkward when you got there together and had to go through the dance of deferring first turn at the machine, but a cup of coffee was more important than a few seconds’ embarrassment this time of night.
He didn’t offer conversation as they walked. It was an amiable silence, but one that implied the agent was content to keep it that way. Aaron had never been good at small talk. Ever since he’d come back to work, he found he hadn’t really had the heart for it. And besides, they weren’t going anywhere together. Aaron was ready to stop at the first acceptable machine he found.

Simon walked along, hesitating to sniff the air and follow his nose like he would if he was alone. It was silly, and he counseled newly transformed people to embrace their new identities and 'gifts' all the time, but he still felt awkward about it. He didn't know this guy very well. He thought maybe his name was either Eric or Aaron. Either way, he didn't want to make a weird first impression.
Despite not loudly sniffing the air, Simon did catch a wisp of coffee smell as they walked. He held up a hand, and pointed in the direction of the smell. "Ha!" It didn't smell like there were ladybugs in it, or sticks. "There. Our target." He grinned, and started in the direction. This was near all the printers. Of course. Paperwork nerds needed all the coffee they could get. He should have guessed, being one.
Unfortunately, Simon walked in just in time to see a lady walk out with the last of the coffee... well. They'd have to brew some themselves.

Aaron saw the predicament too and sighed inwardly, sensing a traffic jam incoming. It wasn’t that he was uncomfortable interacting with his coworker - Simon’s case had actually come across his desk after the werewolf incident and was more familiar to him than some. But they didn’t really cross paths either, and the agent wasn’t in the mood for polite arguments over who was going last.
So after changing the filters, he pulled out his phone with a distracted expression and began to tap at the screen, stepping absently away from the machine. It wasn’t entirely an act - he did have a half finished email or two to finish drafting - but he mostly wanted to avoid any confusion about the wait order.

Simon waited for the coffee to brew, and glanced at Aaron. That guy didn't talk much. Maybe he was a little shy. Simon took out his own phone, and scrolled through some social media. Oh... OOOOHHH. There was a new trailer out for that new Johnny Solar movie. He'd loved those comics when he was a kid. Superheros had been his thing. He eyed the other guy. Time to pick a name. Aaron? or Eric?
"Heyyyyyy... Eric, you seen the trailer for that Johnny Solar movie?" He casually leaned on the counter.

Aaron glanced up from his notes belatedly. There was a brief hesitation as he first waited for an Eric to respond, then processed the mistake, then debated whether or not to say something. But it seemed petty to start things off with a correction when the werewolf was trying to be friendly. He let it slide.
“Didn’t know there was one,” he answered, stepping around Simon to rinse his mug in the sink. “Is it any good?”

Simon was blissfully unaware that Eric was the wrong choice, otherwise he'd have been mortified. The werewolf grinned, and waved his phone, as if this helped anything. If there was one thing he liked as a conversation starter, it was geek stuff. "Oh, yeah, it's by that one guy, y'know. That one that does all the superhero movies? It looks good," He refreshed the page, offering his phone to 'Eric'. "Wanna see? I think they got the casting right?"

Aaron put down his mug, drying his hands carefully, and reached out to take the phone.
"I never read the comics," he admitted. I'm more of a Green Dragon fan, he almost added, and quashed the treacherous thought before it could escape.
Tiny explosions and other assorted special effects flashed across the screen. Aaron watched in silence, his face expressionless. It was hard to tell if he was uninterested or just concentrating on the video.
"Nice," he said at last, handing the phone back to Simon. A pause as he struggled to bite back the critical comment. But he couldn't help himself. It only took half a minute of research to make an accurate portrayal of a supernatural agency. "The A-team though."

Simon took his phone back, a goofy, dorky grin plastered on his face, exposing him for the dweeb he truly was. "Never? They're good, man." He tucked his phone back into his pocket. "They had the best depiction of time travel I've ever seen. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if a traveler had a hand in writin it."
He tilted his head at the last part. "what about it?"

Aaron considered this, weighing the tidbits from the trailer against the (admittedly very small) time travel knowledge he had. It was possible they’d consulted a specialist, but genuine time travelers weren’t easy to come by. They only had one on-site that Aaron knew of, and his classification was hazy at best. This, he decided, didn’t matter. Time travel was awesome.
“That was pretty good,” he agreed. “If they stick to the time traveling vigilante thing, it’s hard to go wrong.”
A slight pause as he replayed the trailer in his mind.
“As long as they don’t focus on the cloud god,” he said with a slight frown. “Why is it always a cloud? You know they're gonna punch it to death anyway.”

Simon tapped his fingers idly on his mug, nodding in consideration. Time Travel stories were probably some of his favorites, along with the reaaaaaaaalllly cheesy werewolf films. The more blurry the camera, the better.
"Yeah, sometimes they still manage to heck it up... But I have a real good feeling," He shrugs a little, "I'm hoping that they'll do better with it. I think there's a lot of potential there for some nice characterization and big 'ol hero moments. It would be cool if they could have a smaller scale story though. It doesn't always have to be saving the world."
The wolf man eyed the coffee machine.
