Ash frowned a little as the pain-pills were refused, but he inclined his head slightly in acceptance and took them back, putting them away again carefully. He settled back on his heels, watching as Jedi examined the wound - wincing in sympathy now and then. It definitely looked painful.
It did help, however - at least helped him - having something to focus on. If he thought about it, he would feel guilty about it, but it helped to think about someone else's problem rather than his own.
"Is there anything I can do to help? Do you need anything?" The question was directed at the both of them. "I think they have ice at the... the... food-shop over there," he forgot the word for it, but there was a small building nearer the pier that sold junk food, softdrinks, and icecream. "If you have an allergy, maybe I can find a more suitable medicine for you?"

Hau glanced down the beach and spotted the food stall in the distance, perched on the edge of the boardwalk at the pier. “Ice would be great.” He admitted. The chill would be welcome for more than just dulling the pain in his leg. While the day was by no means hot, without the spray of the waves and the breeze of surfing the warmth was starting to feel uncomfortable to him. Though his rash vest and shorts were still damp and cool against his skin, they wouldn’t be that way a lot longer.
With the wound washed off, Hau leaned closer to inspect it. Halfway down his calf he could see the gash split into two. The shorter of the two branches ended where he had seen that black speck, except now it was clearly part of something larger. Rock, or coral, or some other debris, Hau didn’t even know. For all the time he had spent on the water, he didn’t really worry himself about what was below it. He nudged it with one finger experimentally and sucked in a breath as the pain flared. It was lodged in there good. There was a pretty decent smattering of dark bruising around the site, a clear indication of how deep it had gone. Hau wasn’t an expert but from the look of it all, it had probably gouged his leg wide enough and deep enough he’d need a few stitches to close it too.
He wasn’t really a cursing man, but profanities were all that was going through his head at the moment.

Jedidiah:
he frowned as he looked at the damage after the washing. . . when Hau poked it, he flinched abit. " do not poke it. " he stated, almost ordering it.
" Applying further pressure downwards on the foreign object lodges it further into the body. if it cuts in too deep, the likelihood of an infection heightens. worse case scenario, you might loose your leg. " he explained. "don't try to pull it out either, not yet. " he added.
. . .though technically, death was worse case scenario, though telling patients they will die if thing 1 gets too bad then there would be alotta patients with this news, and alotta of lack of will to fight. not many folks can be told they could die right off the bat and still be willing to fight.
there was a major concern on how deep the cut is, how deep the rock was. . . if it had cut into a decent sized artery if not one of the major ones. one of the worse case scenarios would be if a small piece dislodged into his heart because it was shoved through his arteries into his veins and back into his heart to be circulated into his lung. . another would be if it made it through and was stuck in his lung or causes a blockage in the brain because it became lodged into a artery heading for the brain. of course, lost of limb was another potentiality. then of course, contamination. foreign debris such as parasites, micro organisms and other particles if enough or sever enough amount, could get Hau dangerously sick . .
suddenly pulling out the rock if it was in a descent sized or major artery could cause bleed-out. . . although he would be able to deal with it as far as field dressing goes, Hau will still need to be rushed to the hospital.
he quietly listened to see if there was any sort of blockage within the young man's arteries or veins. . . something he had trained himself in the mountains as a general doctor. . . stupid scary good hearing within close range or within a relatively quiet small room. . . outside of that, he just hears well at a distance or not much can be discerned outside of what anyone else would typically hear. aside from the heightened blood pressure and heartrate from his body experiencing pain and stress from the injury. what was going on in the major blood vessels? plenty of smaller vessels were ruptured to cause the contusions around the wound site. . .

Ash waited a few moments to see if Jedi would request anything, but the doctor was distracted with examining the wound. Given how much he kept in his pack, he likely had everything he needed. Hau had requested ice, however, so Ash inclined his head in a nod, offering the blue-haired man a quick smile, then turned and hurried across the beach toward the pier.
It was a bit of a jog to get there, but the heat rising from the sand was pleasant to him, and the task was a welcome distraction. He wondered if blue hair was rare among humans here - he had seen a few with brightly colored hair, but most were shades of brown, yellow, or black.
When he arrived at the shop he was presented with a brief dilemma, realizing that he would have to speak to the man at the counter to get the ice. Usually it wasn't a problem, but then usually when he interacted with the merchants here he had Jedi with him to help when he fumbled with the proper terms, and counting out money. Money was still a little strange to him - he didn't understand why the slips of thick paper were more valuable than the metal disks. The disks were easier to understand because they were different sizes and colors, but the differences with the paper were more subtle and difficult to make out.
He hesitated a bit, but he had time to - waiting in a line of others who were buying things as well. When he arrived at the front he managed to stammer out a request for ice and water - which earned him a bit of an odd look from the merchant - asking of he meant ice cream. He felt especially awkward as he explained no, he needed ice and water for someone who was injured further up the beach. While he was fumbling with money, the man offered him the ice-water free of charge, and wished him good luck, as well as suggested he go to the lifeguard.
Ash put the money away a bit awkwardly, thanked the man, then took the cup with ice and water. He was a bit daunted by the idea of speaking with the lifeguard alone, so he went straight back to Jedi and Hau instead - slower on the trip back so as not to spill anything.
"Ah, here, there is water too," he murmured as he arrived, offering the cup to Hau.

“Oh, don’t worry about that.” Hau had no intention of trying to pull whatever it was out. He’d had some basic first aid training, he knew how messy this could get. But at the same time, he was very ready to get rid of it. He didn’t like being in the spotlight. And while Ash and Jedidiah had been nothing but kind and helpful, the attention was… embarrassing.
Then Jedidiah seemed to stop what he was doing and… was he listening for something? Hau waited a moment, wondering, before asking quietly, “what are you doing?” If he was trying to discern more about the wound, Hau didn’t think he’d learn anything new. That foreign object hadn’t hit anything vital, luckily for him. Infection was still the biggest threat. The ocean water alone could do it, if the local pollution was bad enough. Hau’s surfing instructor back home was fond of reminding his students how he’d almost lost an eye to an infection he’d contracted that way.
He was relieved to see Ash finally returning. "Ah, here, there is water too." Hau thanked him for the water, taking it gratefully. He didn’t realize how thirsty he was until he had the cup in his hands, but he tried to drink it slowly and make it last. The sun’s heat had already begun to warm it, but that wasn’t something Hau couldn’t fix. Subtly, he focused on the water, willing it to cool until it was at the edge of freezing. The condensation on the outside of the cup frosted slightly as well. When he felt the ice on his fingers, he covered it all with his free hand. He didn’t want these two to notice the strange reaction of his drink. The next icy cold sip was a more than welcome distraction from the throbbing in his leg.

Jedidiah:
after a few moments of confirmation, he sighed, alittle relieved that it had not punctured a major artery or vein, otherwise they would of had to run him towards the pier with 911 on the line. he pulled a disposable place mat and some of his other tools, including a set of tweezers. " it hasn't punctured a major artery or vein despite the large amount of bruising. we will be able to field dress it without too much concern however I would suggest you head towards your primary doctor for a follow up and potentially antibacterials just in case they are needed. " he replied as he wiped the wound down with an alcohol pad gently. . . "so, this will hurt without anesthetics. I will need you to stay as still as possible. most of your leg luckily will not need stitches however this area in particular will need stitches. " he explained. "im going to use a bio thread on you so there will be no need to go in and have the stitches removed in two weeks. " he added.
"ash, can you grab the gauze? hes going to bleed abit but is will be more messy then life threatening. " he asked. he then had abit of an idea. " ash, can you also grab the bio pads? " he asked. "don't open the bio pads up yet but can you grab the one that's alittle longer then the length of his leg? " he asked. he was happily working on new ways when he discovered these band aids that effectively extend the body's natural field of mending of the flesh past the skin. they were small but he was able to reverse engineer them to cover larger sized wounds that were of similar skin depth of damage. he cant biologically rebuild a body but he was happy when he figured this one out. . . terrified the hell out of Ash with it sadly. . .until he explained it. . .happens with it looks like a pale skin colored slug. that's dry like spongy plastic until the second day?
gently yet swiftly, he used the tweezers to remove the foreign object from the young man's leg. before using more alcohol and betadine, to gently wash out the gaping hole. . "so, what do you do for a living, Mr. Hau?"

Ash offered Hau a nervous-quick smile at his thanks, inclining his head in a slight nod. He was glad to be of some use, even if it had only been to bring ice and water.
"Ah? Yes, Doctor Jedi," Ash twitched to attention as the giant made a request of him. He turned his attention away from Hau and instead went back to the first-aid kit to retrieve the gauze and bio-pads. The pads were... especially strange to him - sort of like false flesh - but then a lot of things in this world were strange to him, so perhaps they were normal for here?
He brought both items back to hold, palms up and flat in offering, until Jedi needed them.

He nodded along with Jedidiah’s explanation, not bothering the mention he had no primary doctor and didn’t intend to go looking for one. It wouldn’t be worth the time if it turned out he wasn’t going to be in town long.
Hau saw it coming and managed to bite down on a sound of pain but he still flinched when Jedidiah pulled the hunk of debris from his wound. His whole leg twitched as the coral ripped its way out and water sloshed out of the cup he was still holding. “Ow,” he muttered, somewhat chagrined. He put his drink down beside him, hastily but solidly burying the bottom in the sand so it remained upright, before bracing both his hands on his knee. This way he was sort of able to keep his leg immobile as the alcohol burned its way through the torn up skin. And he could hide the slight shaking that he could feel in his hands. Hau took a few steadying breaths as he watched fresh blood dribble down his ankle and pool on the board beneath him.
“So, what do you do for a living, Mr. Hau?”
He huffed a wry laugh, but he was grateful for the distraction. “Nothing for the moment, I’m looking for a job.” Hopefully a slight limp wouldn’t impact his interview tomorrow morning, no one wanted a waiter with a bum leg. “But back at home I was a guide for hiking tours. Take tourists out to see the lava flows and the waterfalls, things like that.” Among a smattering of other odd jobs, nothing at all glamorous. Hau needed so badly to get to work on a real career, his uncle had even offered him whatever help he needed getting into the police academy, but Hau never felt quite ready. “It wasn’t exactly a living, but it worked.”

Jedidiah:
" ah. . . well, I hope you wont have to look for long. There's always someone looking to hire folks willing to work. especailly someone with previous training. " he replied as he with a quick yet steady hand stitched the deeper tissue up. lingering or missing would cause unnecessary pain. "and well. . . guides are abit underappreciated I'm afraid. some folks take for granted the false sense of security of being with someone who knows the area. . . .think that it gives them a ticket to put themselves in danger. " he sighed. "same with the plumbers, the garbage men and the sewage workers. . . .without them, folks like me would be ineffective no matter how skilled we are. " he added.
talking was more or less to distract the poor guy from the injury. . . .he can only hope its working somewhat at least. " do you have any career you would like to get into? " he asked. he tied off the thread before checking over the stitch work and for any other wounds that might need stitches. . . not that he did not look prior, just double checking in case he missed anything. when it all looked done, he glanced over to Ash. "Ash, come here for a second. we will need the bio pad first. . . though I need to barrow your hands. " he stated, abit sheepishly. his hands were big, yes. Though Ash has what he doesn't have. smaller hands. Bigger doesn't always mean better. . . although he can do small delicate work, that's normally with the aid of tools.

Ash listened while Jedi and Hau spoke, but kept quiet himself. He had been trying to learn about this world and how society worked but... some things still seemed strange to him. There was so much searching for a place to fit... He missed the Eyrie, where it was all decided already. He knew where he had fit there, what was expected of him - here, it seemed hardly anyone knew where they fit, let alone him.
When Jedi called him nearer he straightened a bit self-consciously and nodded, moving closer with the pad. "Ah, yes. You want me to put it on?"

“My uncle works for the HPD,” he said, then caught himself, “the Honolulu police department. I’d like to do that too, I just… haven’t gotten around to it yet.” He shrugged. It was hard to express how doing so felt like a family sort of thing, like something a son should do with his father not something an orphan from across the ocean should do with his adoptive uncle. There was a boundary there that only Hau could seem to see. But that wasn’t a subject to be digging into with these people so he tried to gloss over the idea. “When I go back home, I’ll probably enroll.”
Hau watched the needle dig in and out of his skin, not because he enjoyed it but because part of him needed to know what was happening. His hands tightened on his leg, his whole body was tensed against this pain, but at least it was more consistent and predictable, not the sudden jarring like before. After only a couple stitches, however, he had to look away and focus on something else. His gaze landed on Jedidiah’s companion Ash. The young man was so timid, Hau wondered if the sight of blood didn’t sit well with him. “Are you okay?” He asked.

Jedidiah:
"oh. . that is pretty impressive. " he replied. he can see where it could both be difficult and easy. . . Honolulu was one of the islands in the middle of the ocean, right? . . . can't be hard to keep the piece since there really isn't anywhere you can swim too. . . the closest land masses is more Hawaiian land. cops can just call from one island to the other to notify them of the criminal swimming a mile or so towards their island. so when they are tied theres another entire squad waiting for them on shore. . . then again, with supers involved. . . thats when it starts to get very difficult very quickly. . "I don't think I can give any real helpful advice on the matter. . though . . . I wish you the best of luck when you come around to being ready to enroll into the police Academy . " he replied.
he might be able to get his feet wet in the police field if he hops in to work as a receptionist or a 911 receiver. . . then he can go to work and slowly go to the academy while he works at the department. then he could simply transfer to the Honolulu department when he get to becoming ready to move. . .
he glanced back towards Ash when he spoke up. "yes, please. as soon as I stitch the deeper portions of his wound shut. " he replied gently " It will not take me long. " he added, this time at both of the two. . . . he quickly set to work. . . methodical yet quick and accurate with the suture and bio-thread. stitching the deepest effected layer together, before moving on to the next layer, then the next, carefully checking his work after each layer. . he then for the last time checked for any additional spots that might need stitches. . . when non were left he placed antibiotic over the entity of the wound before he glanced over to Ash.
"Ok, Ash, now you can place the bio pad on his leg. " he notified. " seeing that it is irregular in shape, don't feel bad if you cant get every last bit of the injury covered by the bio pad. . .we can deal with the remainder with antibiotics and gauze. . we will need to wrap it regardless to help keep it stabilized. " he assured.

"Ah?" Ash startled a little when Hau asked him if he was allright - he had been listening to the two of them speaking, trying to follow the conversation though a vew of the words were uncertain to him. "Am I okay? Ah, yes, I am...
"Ah, sorry. I was thinking... Your leg looks like it hurts. The stitching. I wish I could do more." He sounded a little flustered, and he inclined his head slightly, tilting his chin toward the wound to indicate it - and to lower his eyes in a manner that read as a bit embarassed. "I... do not like to see people in pain..."
At Jedi's go-ahead, Ash moved to place the biopad against Hau's wound, trying to make sure most of it was covered. When it was placed as good as it was going to get, he drew back to retrieve the gauze, so that it could be wrapped and held in place. Given time, it should make the wound heal more quickly, but just now it was likely uncomfortable - especially given that they had been unable to offer Hau painkillers. Ash glanced up at the man to gauge how well he was doing.

Hau wanted to deny it, to spare Ash’s feelings, but it was plainly obvious he was in pain. If they hadn’t seen the trembling already, he was probably a few shades paler now than when they started. His whole leg had been reduced down to a deep angry throbbing that radiated from ankle to knee. And it would only get worse before it got any better. He regretted turning down those painkillers. There was only a chance they would cause him to change, the gamble was really looking more and more attractive as time went on.
“You’re doing plenty.” He tried to reassure. “If you two weren’t here, I’d have had to take care of this on my own. And I guarantee, I’d be doing a much worse job of it. Thanks again, both of you. If I can do anything to pay you back, just tell me.”
He glanced down at his leg. Jedidiah was putting in a fair number more stitches than he expected, the big man was being very thorough. Though Hau had seen worse on television, the fact that it was his leg that’d been torn open, and that it was his muscle and skin Jedidiah was suturing back together, made his stomach turn. Tearing his eyes away, he let himself fall back to lay along the surfboard, draping his arm over his eyes to block out the sun. He could feel the doctor putting antibiotic on the wound again. Hopefully, he was almost done.

Jedidiah:
luckily for Hau, the doctor was done, has been for a good 3 mins, while Ash worked to place the Biopad onto Hau's injury on his leg. . ." no worries. . .Now, I suggest leaving this on your leg for a good couple of days to give the Biopad time to work properly. . . a week at most. " he explained. "now how it works is by extending the field of the body's natural healing beyond the skin, giving it a sterile field to work with. . . . similar to the smaller counterparts meant for paper-cuts and other various small injuries. " he did not remember if he had explain this to Ash, so in all honesty, how it worked was aimed at both of them. . . "hopefully, with the Biopad, it will help prevent Scar tissue from forming. . . hopefully. its not guarantee, varying from person to person. . though chances of no scar forming are improved due to the thorough cleaning. "
If I can do anything to pay you back, just tell me. he did say prior to the explanations. . .
looking at the young man, he did not want him to dwell on the idea of forever owing them back just because they applied first Aid on the beach. . . seems a sort to try and please. . .put up a face. . . .he had no plan on charging the young lad for it either, hell, if anything he was concerned for a while that he might of needed to be rushed to the ER . . .the man potentially losing his leg was much higher then if he was going to be paid for helping him or not. . . though a notion he noticed common in cities, sadly. . .
"i guess for payment. . . would you like to come shelling with us? we have rubber or plastic covering we can use on your leg so you can keep from reintroducing seawater onto it. " he offered. "now you don't have to if you don't want to. . completely understandable if you prefer to just return home or your hotel. but, its more of an attempt to leave a lighter note on the day at the beach. . . . " he continued.
