She heard his assertion as her legs missed their target - that they could stop this, talk it out, that he wouldn't stake her. But she saw too, his eye flick. Still looking, still searching, for a way to pierce her heart and prevent her moving. To remove her ability to move, her freewill, go where he wanted. Regardless of Kail's intentions, how bad this situation must look from his point of view, Kitty had no intention of going quietly. Or believing him.
The hissing snarl that escaped her mouth as his elbow connected was more Beast than anything else. A low, dangerous sound, instinctive and defensive. "Don't fuckin' lie to me!" He still had a hold of her arm, all her efforts to break free thus far had been to no avail, but that didn't mean the vampire intended to stop anytime soon.
Pain was a feeling Kitty had mostly left behind after she 'died'. Certain things could still invoke it, granted, but cuts, punches, broken bones, none of them phased her anymore. None of them made her dead nerves fire. Thus, there was nothing to prevent her from twisting and twisting and twisting in Kail's grip, until her shoulder and elbow dislocated, allowing her to rotate even further around and bring her fist into the side of his temple. Fury burned in her expression, her teeth were locked firmly together as the blow landed, with nary a trace of a pulled blow. She hit him, hard and once again shouted in his face. "Let me go ya bloody arsewipe! Let. Me. GO!"
"HEY!"
The unfamiliar voice made Kitty instantly freeze, her eyes plunging back to their human blues at the threat of potential discovery. She turned slightly to look, continued to yank her arm away from Kail and push back against him even as she watched another humanoid figure running towards them. Without the aid of her glowing eyes and only the one pitiful light in the alley, she couldn't make out details, but knew at least they were male, given the voice that yelled out again. "Hey buddy back the hell up! The police are on their way so I suggest you let the lady go." The interference was frustrating, in that Kitty berated herself for being so loud out in the open - though the wendigo was as much to bloody blame for that - and she had no idea who this intruder was, whether their body would raise questions down the line. Because the chance of him walking away from this now were rather slim, given Kail's mood and their current situation. Still, it could be to her advantage, if she could just get a second or two...

Both punches landed hard, in quick succession. The wendigo balked, bringing one arm up to defend his face from further blows. She hadn’t held back at all, and he could taste his own sour blood in his mouth. Still, the grip on her arm, dislocated as it was, did not waver. As long as he kept ahold of her, she could not leave. He knew sooner or later she’d force him to change his grip, but for now, he only needed her to stay pinned. There was an unhappy, frustrated anger to his movements as his hooves scrabbled against the concrete. He didn’t want to be hurting her. He didn’t want to lie to her, he didn’t want to stake her, but she hadn’t given him much other choice, and he didn’t know what else to do.
“No! You’ll leave - you’ll leave if I do,” his voice held a high, desperate note as he snarled right back, fangs bared. It was almost a plea, even in his rage. “I don’t want this, ya stupid bitch, I don’t fuckin want any of thi-“
“HEY!”
He startled at the sudden shout, head whipping around in unison with Kitty’s. Unlike the vampire, he did not make the slightest effort to appear human, and his eyes shone with an unearthly light, his antlers sharply silhouetted even in the dim lighting. It was some brainless human trying to play hero - the fool had no idea what he was interrupting, what Kail was going to do to him for his intrusion. His rage roared to life, but the humans threat went ignored. He’d deal with the police when they came, and he’d deal with the man as soon as possible. He’d make the idiotic, nosey bastard suffer.
His fingers had loosened around Kitty’s arm. He noticed a second to late and scrambled to regain ahold of her in a rapid blur of movement, his concentration slipping, becoming progressively panicked and sloppy with his technique. She couldn’t leave, not when he’d just found her again. Not after the weeks of searching and fearing, only to leave him with nothing but questions and bruises.

You'll leave.
Even through her bristling anger, his words stung more than any insult or threat, piercing the vampire's torso with icy daggers that made her chest twist into a tight knot. He hadn't managed to stake her, but god damn if it didn't feel just as bad. Because though the words hadn't been quite so, their tone, the look on his face, told Kitty what Kail had meant.
Please don't leave me.
When had their relationship become this? When had they begun to care so strongly about one another? It should never have come to this, she should never have formed such an attachment. It was how one got themself hurt of needlessly killed. Kitty experienced that now and found herself in agony at how desperate her former packmate looked. Even thinking of him as 'former', when he was here, had found her again, made the redhead's heart sink. It should never have come to this.
Then she felt the wendigo's grip loosen, only momentarily while distracted by the interloping human (who was now cowering back from the hellish creature he had realised was actually in the alley), but it was enough to give her chance to try and wrench her arm free. As it turned out, not quick enough before Kail spun back to her and reasserted his hold, though further down her arm this time, just above the wrist. Kitty hissed, struggling backwards and dragging the taller male with her, not yet having time to relocate her joints. For all her aggression, all her clawed scrapping and angry words, the vampire didn't want to risk hurting him badly. She still remembered how she had to heal him after his fight with the Russian supersoldier, he couldn't heal like she could. So she swallowed ideas of cleaving his hand off and instead found her back hit the far alley wall, there was nowhere left for her to drag him back to, but-
There was a sudden spray of splintering wood that interrupted her thoughts. Kitty had expected a lot of things, from breaking away and running, all the way to the wendigo actually succeeding in his staking plans. What she hadn't anticipated was for a wooden board to suddenly swing for the back of Kail's head. She was sure the human would have run, not intervened any further, given the wendigo's appearance. But though she could see fear in the man's face, there was determination too, thinking obviously she was a woman in need of rescue.

Kitty’s back hit the alley wall. She had nowhere to go, her arm was still dislocated, and she was clearly torn between options. It was now or never.
Then something hard and solid collided with the back of his head, and his loose grip slipped completely as he sagged to the side, stunned. The shock of the blow was swiftly replaced with a blind fury so overwhelming he completely forgot about the vampire and turned all his rage to the unfortunate, well meaning human.
“FUCK OFF!” The back of his head hurt like all hell, throbbing, but if this little hero thought some spunk and a board was going to cut it, he was sorely mistaken. Four deep, bloody furrows were slashed across his middle as the wendigo lashed out, hurling him back down the alley. The plank clattered to the side, broken, and he started forwards, teeth bared and deadly intent blantantly clear.
Kitty. He’d let go of Kitty.
As swiftly as he had turned on the human, he whirled back to the vampire faster. There was a jagged section of the plank in his fist and no matter the state she was in, he lunged straight for her. He didn’t want to stake her. It hurt that it had come to this. He knew how much she hated being staked, the feeling of helplessness, being trapped, powerless - they were not any emotions he wanted her to feel, or should be making her feel. It was a failure on his own behalf that it had come to this, turning on his own packmate, forcing her into this situation. He did not blame her for trying to escape, for fighting back so viciously, though he didn’t understand why, and he was angry, incredibly angry, that she wanted to at all, but she had her reasons. The fear in her eyes hadn’t gone unoticed, nor had the shock or the hurt.
But it didn’t matter. She had to be staked.

The scent of fresh blood crashed over Kitty like a wave, making her pupils swell as the Beast near tried to crawl up her throat. Yet it wasn't quite the same as before... enticing, yes. But nowhere close to before. Isaac had seen to that. As the human's body crashed against bins and discarded boxes down the far end of the alley, Kitty abruptly realised that she was free of Kail's grasp. The wendigo was distracted, albeit briefly.
The redhead was on the move next moment, grabbing hold of her arm and forcing joints back to where they should be. Ordinarily, a move that would have caused excrutiating pain and potentially irreprebable damage, given the lack of finesse by which Kitty did so, but she had supernatural healing to fall back on and knew by the next night her body would be none the worse for wear. With a functional limb once again, she began to run, just in time to see Kail charge back around on her, a shard of wood in hand. He would hit her, stake her, take her away. Isaac would come for her later, that same possessive look on his face.
There was no thought process, no conscious decision. Her last vision, before the shift took Kitty over, was of the wendigo's furious, determined face.
Then she was gone, down on the ground, abruptly tiny and furred. Kail crashed past her, the aim for her chest striking nothing but empty air in the wake of her transformation. The ginger kitty was hurtling down the alley within a second, darting beneath piles of discarded items, weaving through a hole in a chain link fence. She had to get away. He must not catch her.

His target abrubtly shrank to a tiny ball of fluff, and he overshot by a mile, skidding to a stop and pushing off the alley wall as the kitten skittered away. Bone deep panic flared in his chest, a sickening, dizzying fear.
"Stop, come back!-" He cursed, making a grab at the vampire. Trash cluttered the path, and even as he leapt over it, clawed hand outstretched, he knew it was too late.
He collided with the chainlink fence with a sharp metallic rattle and a cacaphony of snarled curses.
"Get ya ass back here!" He hollered after her, hands curling around the fence in deslerate frustration as he watched the ginger shape disappear into the night. It was useless. She was gone. He couldn't scale the fence in time to go after her. Hed failed, and she was gone, again, leaving him alone and more concerned then ever.
All because of that godamn meddling human. An icy, livid gaze landed on the man struggling to his feet at the end of the alley.
"You," he hissed as he stalked closer, fingers curling into white-knuckled fists. The man paled, holding his slashed stomach with shaking hands. The alley was suddenly as cold as the dead of winter, but the creatures gaze was another level pf fridgid hatered. "should've minded ya own fuckin' buisness."

Kitty thought back on that night from where she lay, the urge to sigh rising in the back of her throat though she didn't have breath to expel. It had been a few weeks now, only the second time she had been outside since that night - where she had to explain to Isaac why she smelled of the sewer without telling him it was to avoid the tracking abilities of a certain wendigo. Her first excersion afterwards had been more of a scouting mission, ensuring that Kail had not managed to follow her and keeping an eye out for his presence in general. He had not found her again, so she thought perhaps he had gotten the message.
Now, she found the urge to lay out in the moonlight, watching a sky that was far too light polluted for her liking. The mountains would have been better, more like the sky from the moorlands she used to call home, away from city lights. But Kail had spent a lot of time out there, hunting or running around in his elk form and she couldn't run the risk of him seeing her. So instead she had deftly hopped her way up to a rooftop on tiny cat paws, then stretched out away from prying eyes and reverted to her human self, letting her tail curl across her midriff. She had been ripping it off less and less of late, but it most certainly was not because a certain person liked to run his fingers through the fur. Definitely not the case.
The vampire groaned quietly, draping an arm over her face. She still felt guilty, which was an emotion she had gone a fair few years without. It was good and bad, having all her normal emotions returned; especially when she actually had a former friend to consider in all of this. A rarity, even from before Max, which meant Kitty was not best equipped to deal with the scenario.
So she lay there and she turned her thoughts over, feeling irritation itch at her skin from her lack of being able to do something productive about the issue of her swirling guilt.

The vampire had been impeccably careful with covering her tracks. He'd lost her scent immediately in the sewers, and for the past few weeks, the woods had been largely unfrequented by the wendigo as he spent the nights scouring the city. Backtracking, retracing his steps, revisiting the alley, following her scent as far as it went, relying on the wind and his nose. He was a good tracker, and she was not ordinary mortal quarry. But the time he had devoted - which was all of his time - to finding her, had finally paid off.
He moved like a spider up the walls after her. The usual chill that accompanied him was dulled to nothing. There was not a single wisp of wind to signify his presence. He pulled himself over the edge and flattened, peering down at the woman laying only a few feet away. The vampires brow was creased as she stared up at the stars, and for a brief, burning moment he wanted nothing more then to sit down next to her and talk.
His fingers tightened around the stake. If things had been a little different, he could have. He wished it was that way, but it wasn’t, and there was no point in reminiscing and regretting.
When she slung her arm over her eyes, he took the opportunity as savagely and as swiftly as a striking snake. He lunged from the side in a blur of movement, and staked her quick and clean in the heart. Her body convulsed, and then abruptly went limp beneath him. One hand stayed over her chest, the other at her shoulder, and he waited with a poised attentiveness. When she didn’t so much as twitch, the wendigo allowed himself a single moment of bitter, silent relief. He’d done it. He leant over the vampire, and his expression would have been vaugley apologetic had it not been for the stubborn, serious set of his brow. It would be easiest to explain now, when she wasn’t able to rip his face off. His voice was a rough whisper when he spoke.
“For what it’s worth, Kitty, I didn’t want to do this. I really, really didn’t want to stake ya.” A flicker of regret passed across his pale face, lingering in his eyes, mouth slanted. “But this is for ya own good.”
That was all he gave as way of an apology. He wasn’t sorry that he’d staked her, he was sorry that he’d had to track and ambush her like she was prey, that he’d forced them into a situation where staking was the only option he could think of. He had desecrated their trust and turned on his own packmate. It was shameful and sneaking and not at all something he would have typically considered, but desperate times called for desperate measures. He reached over and gently shut her eyes. As gently as possible after ramming a spike of wood into her heart, anyway. Clawed hands wrapped around her midsection and she was weightless for a moment as the wendigo slung her over his shoulder in a fireman’s carry, before making his way down the roof, a slow affair as he made sure the stake wasn’t jostled out of place, or that he dropped her. He itched to go faster, to get off the rooftops and into the woods.

There was a prickling across Kitty's skin, something subtle and nuanced, a scratch in the back of her head. Something was coming and by the time Kail lunged for her the vampire was nearly sitting up. But he was too familiar, too quiet and stealthy for her to realise the danger in time. As the point of the stake drove into her chest, Kitty didn't even have a second to speak, react, not even think, before she found herself completely paralysed within her own skin. She hated this, more than just about anything in the world. Being so trapped, so helpless. She heard Kail's voice, had to, really, given she literally couldn't move, cover her ears, not even close her eyes. But regardless of his words, bitter anger and betrayal curdled in the redhead's chest as she stared blankly up at the sky.
It didn't matter that he hadn't wanted to do it. It didn't matter that she could understand his worry about her current situation with Isaac. The fact of the matter was, he had staked her, he had fucking staked her! When she got out of this, Kitty was going to tear him a new one. If... if he let her out of this. God, how long was he going to keep her like this? How long before Isaac noticed? This wasn't like with the antler, shattered, brittle and only partially embedded, she was not going to be able to force the stake out of herself any quicker than a week or two.
The vampire screamed in frustration and borderline panic. Silently, trapped inside her own body, unable to do anything as Kail made his way down from the rooftop.

The first the vampire would know that Kail had changed forms was when she felt huge jaws clamp around her, felt the puff of cold breath from slit nostrils. The elk was careful with his teeth, a firm but soft-mouthed hold on her middle. He was keenly aware that he was in the city, and that he couldn't afford to be seen - and for a 10 foot monster elk with antlers longer than three men, that would prove to be a challenge.
Luckily, he had a route planned, and the aid of supernatural speed and stealth. The second Kitty was secured he was off, leaping over walls and squeezing through back alleys until the city was a mass of lights behind them, and the woods were ahead. His pace quickened. The forest flashed past as he made his way to the heart of his territory, where the trees were dense and dark, and the quiet was more of a baited hush as pines pressed in around them. He moved like a ghost through the darkness, as the woods opened into a small clearing with an old, roughly hewn cabin nestled amid the brambles, hidden from above and three sides, save the front.
The clearing itself was so overgrown it looked like any other natural opening of the trees. The road was blocked miles back, and at this point was an animal trail if anything.
The porch boards creaked as Kitty was yet again placed down. A latch clicked and then she was being carried again, in arms instead of jaws.
When her eyes were opened again, she would find herself in what looked like a hunters meat preparation room, windowless and only one heavy door. There was a stained metal table by the door, and two metal hooks hung from the ceiling. Her wrists were bound behind her back with a thick length of chain, and another, thicker chain also encircled her torso and ankles. Each end was secured to a hook, the other to the wall. She was propped up in a sitting position, but the length of the chain gave her no more than 12 inches of movement in any direction.
Kail was in front of her, and in one quick movement, without giving her any warning, he removed the stake and immediately stepped back, far out of reach. The chains would hold, and all the doors and windows to the cabin were locked. His ears flattened instinctively for the verbal attack he knew was coming, arms at his side and his stance ready. Just in case

During the entire journey, the whole time she felt hands, teeth, then metal against her body, Kitty seethed and swore and ran crazed loops inside her own head. She visualised, in explicit detail, the myriad of things she was going to do to Kail when she got free. To think, she had actually taken the time to worry over him. What a mistake that had turned out to be! He'd need to be fed through a tube by the time she was done with him.
Of course, in her current state, all Kitty's thoughts of mutilation and violence were just that. Thoughts. She couldn't do a damn thing about the wendigo, or this situation, while a shard of wood lay embedded in her chest. Not only that, she had a sneaking suspicion the metal weight she could feel was some kind of restraint. Even if he did remove the stake, she still might not be free.
Which only made her angrier.
It was a good thing Kail was blessed with supernatural speed and reflexes, because as soon as the wood shard left her chest, Kitty lunged forward, her teeth coming together with an audible clack. The torrent of fury spewed forth not a second later, spilling out of her mouth a white hot rage that burned her throat and seared through her veins. "YOU PIECE OF SHIT MOTHERFUCKING WANKSTAIN" The vampire thrashed against her restraints, despite how futile it soon turned out to be. The metal clinked and groaned, but held firm even as she flooded her body with vitae to make herself stronger. There had been thoughts of shifting, while she was still still as a corpse, but the weight of the chains would have crushed and pinned her kitten self and the panther was larger than her human self, so that was no good either. Instead, she twisted wildly, blood red strands of hair whirling around her in a display nearly as wild as the woman herself. A small room, bound and trapped; it was a familiar situation to Kitty. Different people, but the situation was all too similar. She loathed it with the same vehemence as she had done back then. She wasn't in the mood to listen, wasn't in the mood to play nice. Her eyes blazed as she strained against the chains, her voice rising in volume until it was a shrieking bellow. "LET ME OUT! LET ME OUT YA FUCKING COWARDLY TWAT, I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU"

It had been a good idea to flatten his ears, because godamn did she have a healthy pair of lungs on her. It was well deserved, though, the screaming and the rage. The wendigo stared, unblinking, as the vampire thrashed and yowled and strained against the chains. They held. She could shriek all she wanted, she wasn't going anywhere.
He only spoke when she had paused in her raving. If she wanted too, she could scream herself hoarse, he would simply stand there, impassive and expectant and feeling anything but. Her anger had stoked his own rage, and he spoke with a trembling fury simmering below the surface.
“I think the fuck not.” he snapped, his own eyes narrowed to slits. “I ain't letting ya out till ya give me some straight fuckin’ answers, not that vague bullshit ya tried to pull. What else did ya want me to do, huh? Ya weren't gonna come quietly, ya wouldn't even fuckin explain what had happened! Ya ran off! I didn't want to stake ya, I know ya hate it, hate this,” he gestured sharply at the chains, the cramped room. “But I need to fuckin’ know!”

At Kail's attempted reasonings, the redheaded vampire snorted through her nostrils. Each word that followed dripped with seething, venomous anger, spat through gritted teeth in a tone that was anything but kind. "Oh whoop-de-fuckin'-do. Ya don't need to know fuckin' anything! Ya just stickin' ya big fat nose where it don't bloody well belong! So, what, you think that just because ya say ya care, that ya don't want me to leave or some shite, that gives you the excuse to stake, kidnap and bloody fucking CHAIN ME?!" Even as she spoke, Kitty continued to thrash. Pointless though it might have been, the act of trying, of not sitting there all passive and quiet, made the vampire feel just that little bit less helpless. Though the frustration of not succeeding in getting free only soured her incredibly foul mood ever further. "I don't have to explain what happened, I don't owe you that, ya 'aven't got some right to know. You want to know, that's fine, that's all well and fuckin' good, but I do not have to tell you. So do me a bloody favour and get down off that sodding white knight of a high horse ya got yaself sat on."
Then, very suddenly, all off Kitty's struggled ceased. Her lips pulled back in a rictus grin that mangled an otherwise pretty face into something cruel and borderline inhuman. Her eyes shone with a feral, dangerous light as she regarded the wendigo. "Ya gunna stand there and tell me how to feel? About what I should or shouldn't do, make me do what ya want? Hmm? That what this is?" Her tone lowered, a dark storminess settled over her features, a threat of rolling thunder. "Go on then bub, make my fuckin' day."

The temperature of the room dropped by several degrees as she continued to thrash and yell. She wasn’t listening. He glanced at the stake in his hand, and sighed mentally. Should’ve kept it in and talked to her when she had to listen. He hadn’t through this through at all. His gaze sharpened suddenly, numerous emotions flashing across his face as she spoke- none of them positive.
“Aw, fuck me!” The wendigo bought a hand to his forehead, exhaling sharply. “Fine, I fuckin want to know. I want to know what happened, so can ya just fuckin tell me?” The words were forced out through gritted teeth, and he seemed to choke up as he tried to keep his frustration in check. Then she spoke again, and any pretense of being unperturbed shattered.
“No, I fuckin ain’t gonna do any of that!” His hands curled into fists. This had been a stupid idea. “Stop bitchin’, you’ve been through worse. You’re telling me ya let yaself be treated as a pet for months, but ya can’t handle a stake in ya chest for half an hour? You’re here now, ya might as well fuckin’ tell me! I’m doing this because I’m trying to help you - I didn’t know what else to do, okay, Kitty? I didn’t know what else to do, I couldn’t just pretend this never happened!” The hurt was edging back in, and he tried to crush it out of his voice, waiting for her to scoff and spit at his hooves.

"IT'S NOT THE FUCKIN' SAME!" The snarled words were explosive and tinged with the bitterness of betrayal. Because that was why she was so angry; curdling hurt and what she felt was treachery, playing on the weakness he knew she had, despite apparently doing it to help her. "I trusted you Kail. I fuckin' trusted ya and now look at me!" Kitty writhed, making the chains clink against one another, the wall creaking at each secured point from the strength of her struggles. "From someone who was supposed to kill me, I expected chains and torture, would have even expected a stake if it hadn't turned out he didn't even need it. He wasn't supposed to be my friend." An irritated 'tch' of a sound escaped the redhead then, as she turned her gaze away from Kail, jaw set tight, the muscles working beneath the skin as she ground her teeth.
"Just, stop it! Stop fuckin' tryin' to help me goddammit." Her head whirled back around to face him, eyes blazing with red light as her rage shifted into something more desperate. "I DON'T WANT IT. I DON'T WANT YA HELP!" The vampire snorted air through her nostrils then, no longer twisting and struggling, but instead shaking with an emotion that wasn't entirely anger. "I got caught, I couldn't beat him, he decided he didn't want me dead, end of bloody story. Why are ya even tryin' so hard? Find someone else, someone without all this crap." She hissed, attempting to ignore the hurt she had heard in the wendigo's tone, tried again to work her arms free. "Now let me out for fuck's sake. Because screw this. I'll get out eventually and I'll rip your arms off if I have to do it myself or ya try to stop me."
