The woman was not built like a fighter and it showed. It seemed her skills lay with her very adept use of magic. Thus, his hand wrapped around her arm easily. In the moment he moved to draw her in, she held out her other hand, creating a ball of white hot energy, and sending it blasting into his torso.
The motion pushed her away, shredding the flesh of her held arm in his grip, causing blood to pour down her hand.
He moved to break her neck but the magician’s erratic movement caused her to dodge the blow, and instead he struck her held shoulder. He felt the bones snap under the force of his blow.
She shrieked in pain, tearing her body away from him before he could wrap the whip around her, cradling her shredded arm as she recoiled.
The stunned man had used the moment in between to recover and raise himself up.
He picked up his rifle and fired a burst at the dullahan, spraying him with bullets. The sound was deafening in the confined space.
Two more soldiers emerged from a doorway nearby, armed with rifles, and noticed Sam immediately.

It seemed nothing would slow down the dullahan. The blast of magic to his torso singed flesh heating the metal embedded just beneath his skin, but somehow not deforming it. “You-“, his voice was a hoarse growl, far from human as he stepped towards the downed magician. He flexed his electrocuted hand, flesh slowly knitting itself together.
Whatever he had planned it was rudely interrupted by a spray of bullets biting into his back, stopping him in his tracks. This was beginning to feel like trying to swat flies, particularly annoying ones.
The dullahan rolled his shoulders. With a sound of tearing flesh, another metal construct pushed through the Dullahan’s skin, by the base of his neck. This was different, wicked and sharp, a sword of some kind, seemingly pieces together of multiple others. An almagamation, not unlike himself. He turned, swiftly drawing the sword and swinging it in the same motion, bringing it arching down on the closest guard’s shoulder. The human should have stayed down. And he would go down again in the end.
Down the hall, he noticed the emerging soldiers. But he didn’t get time to react. A blazing gust of wind tore through the hallway, pushing against the soldiers with unnatural force. Nathaniel. Samael cursed. Brave, foolish kid, of course he’d try to keep the guards away, despite the fact that he knew he should conserve his energy. They had talked about this. Of course the child wouldn’t listen.

The downed man tried to roll out of the way, but he was all too slow for Samael. The weapon bit deep into his shoulder, splitting him from the top to mid-section. The remains gushed blood, which pooled rapidly around his body, and then the body became inert, sliding down and to the side with its weapon.
The magician, in the meantime, clutched her mangled arm, and cast another spell with her good hand.
A sonic blast, loud enough to break her own ear drums, but powerful enough to disintegrate flesh and disrupt visceral parts of his body.
She skittered back, taking cover behind one of the doorways farther down the hallway.
The two soldiers stumbled. One fired directly at the ground in front of him, and the other seemed to be surprised enough that he had no time to fire at all. Both cried out in surprise as they were overcome by the ghost child.

With a resolute movement, Samael pulled his blood-coated blade from the pile of flesh. The sight brought him no pleasure, nor did it inspire disgust. This was simply another obstacle removed. Switfly he brought the blade down on the automatic weapon the man had dropped, breaking it.
The sonic blast disintergrated superficial skin and flesh, revealing a horrible constructions of fused bone, metal and muscle beneath the almost human interior. It was an unsettling sight, inspiring an undeniable feeling of wrongness in any living being. A visceral machine, he was clearly constructed, but by what?
The dullahan brought a hand to his bleeding chest, his blood, staining the leather of his gloves, was thick and cold to the touch, a dark, dull, brownish red, like rust - devoid of life, refusing to die. As he was made, threads of discoloured muscle and sinew began to move almost instantly, squirming like worms as it knitted him together again. His movements were rougher, now that vital functions had been damaged. His continued function was prioritized above anything else, restoring movement before grace. With a dissatisfied sound, he pushed a dislocated bone back in place.
Samael’s advance towards the magician was steady, his boots thudding dully against the floor.
“I am not here for you”, Samael called out to the magician, his voice an ill omen, “I am willing to let you leave if you run away now. You do not need to die today.” The unspoken threat was clear, hanging in the dark hallway like an echo. The sorcerer would die, should she try to fight off the advancing dullahan. But her death was avoidable - he would let her keep her life, run outside and be caught by the WDSA agents or slip by unnoticed if she was lucky. Samael did not care either way, whether she ran or not, he would not be stopped. His grip on the stained sword shifted, ready and alert, as he continued towards his goal.

The sorcerer’s eyes widened as Sam approached, unperturbed, after she had relieved him of his flesh. She knew defeat when she saw it, and he saw the moment of realization flash in her eyes. Clutching her still bleeding arm, she moved towards one of the doors, opening it and darting out without answering him.
Behind him, between his own body and his goal, the two soldiers engaged the ghost child. One of them seemed to have some measure of magic himself; he pulled out a ward, brandishing it towards the small figure. The second soldier, meanwhile, seemed less than distracted, and pointed his weapon at Sam, firing off a burst of shots at the rapidly regenerating creature.
The first, once he seemed satisfied with creating room between himself and the ghost child, began to gesticulate wildly in the space between them. A soft glow appeared in the void. The mercenary was going to cast a spell, and from the way the hallway walls reverberated, it was going to be a big one.
Sam knew that just beyond these two, past the steel door, was his ultimate goal. The man he had come to kill.

The dullahan let the magician flee, not even sparing her a second glance. She had made her choice, accepted his offer and he would honor it.
The commotion behind him meant he had to hurry, and as much as he wanted to stop and take care of the guards and their stubbornness, he didn’t have the time. Perhaps seeing a sword to their boss’ neck would make them reconsider their hostility? Barely had the bullets bit into Samael’s back, before they were pushed out of his flesh again, leaving a trail of metal and cold blood as they clinked softly against the ground. The sound drowned in the chaos.
The steel doors presented the last obstacle, the least of his worries now, and Samael quickly pushed down on the handle, determined to break down the door if it did not open on its own.
He stepped into the room without hesitation. “There you are”, Samael tilted his head slightly, studying the man before him, “you have a lot to answer for.”

Samael forced open the metal door. It screamed its complaints as he pressed it open, breaking its delicate locks.
The office was much nicer than Samael could have expected in a warehouse. The barred back window filtered dim golden light into the shadowy interior of the office. A beautiful mahogany desk sat in the middle of the office, two antique wooden chairs and a lovely matching bookshelf enhancing the appeal of the room.
At the far end of the room, a man rose from his chair. Samael’s target. The trafficker.
The boss was tall, at least another half-head taller than Samael. Unlike the men that Samael had confronted, he wore a tailored business-suit. Fine quality. A silk handkerchief tucked into his front pocket. His features and body were square, but unhandsomely. His right eye shone a brilliant red, perhaps replaced by magical artifact, while the other was a piercing pale blue.
He put his radio down on the table, panicked voices still crackling over its length, muffled, and picked up the gun next to it, waving it in Samael’s direction.
“You’re dead, whoever you are,” he growled.
As if by silent order, two men peeled themselves off of the walls on either side of Samael, leveling weapons in his direction. Strong, well-armed. Probably hardened killers.

The leader of the operation was an unimpressive sight, tucked away in a lavishly decorated room in a dirty basement, wearing a tailored suit that would do nothing to protect him. An image carefully put together to convey power, but only succeeding in proving ineptitude. The man made his threats, flashed his firearm, did whatever he needed to do to feel powerful, not moving the corpse in front of him. The two men peeling from the walls were unfortunate collateral damage, neither seeming like the type to surrender. Samael was not surprised, perhaps disappointed, disgusted maybe? It didn’t matter.
The dullahan laughed then, a horrible, wheezing sound, like a throat collapsing. “That’s where you’re wrong. I am death. Yours.”
Then the whip cracked in the air, vertebrae catching dying light as he aimed it at one soldier’s firearm, or hand, whatever would get him to drop his little toy. At the same time, he moved, ducking under the other soldier’s weapon, slipping behind him. Samael aimed a kick at the back of the soldier’s knees, wanting him off balance, so he could push him towards the other. He just needed those two off his back for a few seconds. There was a frightening efficiency to the dullahan, that only became more clear, now that he was so close to his target.

The first man cried out, releasing the weapon from his grip. His expression was a twisted visage of dismay, pain and anger. He crumpled heavily into the far wall as he caught himself to avoid falling over, clutching his own arm for support.
The second dodged his blow, unphased, turning to fire into his back with his weapon; a high caliber rifle, fit for killing elephants. He was either brave or foolish, though at this distance, he was at least out of range of most of Samael’s attacks.
At the same moment, the boss coughed in surprise and held up his weapon defensively, taking advantage of the distraction the two other men had created. Samael realized that he believed his gun was his trump card.
The gun appeared to be magical, armed with bullets that were laced with spells. While they were likely not enough to discourage the Dullahan, he would realize that they were enough to potentially cause him serious damage if they did indeed strike him.
The boss leveled the weapon, and fired directly at Samael, aiming for his mid-chest region.
“Just die already!”
The man yelled over the sound of gunfire.
