Kazan arched an eyebrow. Was that supposed to be... funny? Friday frequently referenced horses when she thought she was being humorous, often making what she referred to as "puns." Regardless of the intention of the words, they seemed to be in response to Kazan's rather aloof attitude. The centaur was aware that he wasn't considered very personable, but he hadn't done anything, nor said anything, to this person that might be considered abrasive. So the problem belonged solely to the gray-skinned super.
At first glance the super in question didn't appear to be that young, at least compared to normal halflings, but his remark betrayed him as more immature than Kazan had guessed. Perhaps he was yet a child according to the standards of his species, it would fit with the juvenile behavior.
The centaur looked to Agent Lucidus. Waiting until he had finished speaking about derogatory racial language and there was a moment of silence, Kazan suggested with utter seriousness, "perhaps you might put the children into their own class, where they will not be so easily distracted?" It seemed possible that the other child, the one hiding beneath the pelt, might also be struggling to focus and that was a way of coping.
After that, he didn't waste any time finding the mentioned reversal agent. Kazan held it up, pausing to give it a wary look, but after one glance back at his grape juice-colored coat he swallowed it with gusto.

“Apologies, Officer Lucidus... Thanks. At least it worked, though I can’t say this color is desirable.”
Grim hung his head a little, he had thought it a clever jibe not a racist one. The pun had been too good to resist. As a half-goblin he was constantly getting shit about his race, last thing he wanted was to be on the other end. The guy was definitely a jerk though.
He bared his teeth at the centaur’s sassy comment. He resisted several choice comments of his own. Such as his resemblance to a My Little pony with the dye job. Or that it took one to know one. Or that perhaps he was looking for the senior citizen class. If he were to retort and call the guy out, then he’d be the bad guy again. It wasn’t worth the breath.
He busied himself writing down the notes about titration and ingredients. He was determined to get the next one right.

Simon looked up with some measure of bashfulness at the taller werewolf.
"I uh, appreciate that. I kinda get in my head a little...heh."
Simon looked back at the room and regarded the situation with some concern. The short woman still didn't look 'okay', and it looked like there was some other tension in the room. He tried to help.
"You're not a distraction, miss. Everyone is changing colors right now. If you want the reverse one I'm sure its perfectly okay, yeah? No need to worry... you wanna get some air, maybe? Or ya can just sit and we can leave you be. All good."

As Cassius reprimanded the half-goblin, Faolan was glad that he'd stifled a smile at the stupid pun. He turned away as the two conversed and inspected his hair with a slight smile. He'd never been brave enough to dye it a wild colour, so this was the next best thing - he'd have to send Edge a selfie before the effect wore off. The only disappointment was that the hue was slightly wrong...when Cassius was free he decided to ask him about where he'd gone wrong.
Unsure of what to do next, he stayed next to Grim. He hadn't though a potion making class woulr get this tense. The attempt at a conversation with the intimidating cenatur hadn't gone far, and Simon was across the room, so he turned back Grim with a small sideways smile.
"Well, I like the colour anyway. Are you going to make the reversal? I think I'll keep it until it wears off."

Zavi:
Officer Lucidus reached down into Zavi’s workspace, and wrote down a small list of ingredients and the directions for the reversal agent, carefully explaining each component and its relevance as he wrote. The ingredients were completely different than what they were used, but he had them stocked in the laboratory itself. He explained he would show her after he finished his explanation.
Conceptually, it was less a reversal agent for this specific potion, and more a reversal agent for many common superficial enchantments like this one, such as changes in eye, hair and skin color. He explained that the reversal was more targeted at the superficial magics that caused this, but may also accidentally undo certain kinds of minor appearance-based magics, so they should be used with caution.
He then brought her the components, talked her way through how to clean her instrumentation, and asked her if she had any questions.
“Let me know if you have questions or run into trouble. Either way, the finished reversal potion is on my desk.”
Kazan:
Cassius looked behind him at Zavijah and Malgrim, and then back at Kazan. His expression tensed as he frowned and considered the multitude of possibilities, and then decided that it was likely a statement spoken out of ignorance more than any hostility.
“Everyone in attendance today is a legal adult, and not a child, though many different…types of beings are present here.”
He corrected gently, though if anything followed that approached an insult, they too would have met stern reproach.
The reversal agent worked as expected, and within a moment the potion’s power melted off his body, the color rippling off his coat, his hair, and his fingernails. He was back to his previous form in a moment.
Officer Lucidus gave him a small booklet, which seemed to be a manual that went over the potions that were to be learned in this class, along with some useful bonus potions, a list of necessary items to procure for home use and of course, common ingredients and their uses.
Malgrim:
Cassius seemed to accept this apology, though he looked down upon the potion and his ingredients.
“It was mostly correct; if you wish, I can guide you through the entire process a second time. I can also provide you with the formula for the reversal, or I can simply provide it to you.
Officer Lucidus handed him a small booklet, which seemed to be a manual that went over the potions that were to be learned in this class, along with some useful bonus potions, a list of necessary items to procure for ho
me use and of course, common ingredients and their uses.
Simon:
Cassius nodded. He did not understand the feeling, but he understood the situation. Simon needed to succeed in what he did to feel like he was accomplishing something by being here. Failing when everyone else succeeded made him feel inferior. His job now would be to make him feel confident in his skills. He would have to help catch him when he was starting to go wrong.
“If you feel up to it, I have time to guide you through all the steps now, what do you think?”
His tone was gentler now, and he leaned in the chair beside Simon, waiting for an answer. He was not sure how to avoid making it intimidating. His attention was briefly attracted by Zavijah again. The man was right; she did not seem to be quite right, despite her interest in making more potions.
He frowned, and then sighed. This was not what he imagined for his first potions class.
If Simon did not protest or wander away, he would work on helping him through each step individually (an automatic success).
Faolan:
Officer Lucidus noted the color change with approval, and inclined his head with acknowledgement.
“An excellent and thorough job mixing, Dr. Mura, though it was slightly overheated. That is alright; it is usually the least important part of potion-making.”
He paused, and then continued with a gesture;
“I can walk you through the step again if you would like, or I can teach you the reversal. It works for any potions that cause superficial alterations to ones’ appearance.”

zavijah:
She listened and wrote down more notes in the small scroll she had. . . She could not read what he had written down. . .It was in common. . . crap. . .or modern english. . . she needed to relearn it already. . . the bits an pieces she could read she somewhat understood. . . but it was still just chicken scratch to her. . . Well, he did write down to her. . . it was more of a reason just to relearn english just so she can read what he wrote down. . . .
“Let me know if you have questions or run into trouble. Either way, the finished reversal potion is on my desk.” he stated. ". . . I will do so, thank you. " she replied. . . She was more interested in learning how to make these things on her own than just grabbing a bottle. . .She will just have to settle with wrapping her hair in the hide until the time passed. She did not want to waste his time in making him aware that she in fact cannot read what he wrote down. . . at least he was going to show her after he was done in his explanation.
Though she does not know how to tell him the healing potion he gave from when Ash was being hunted did not work on her. . . .
Perhaps a later date. . .when shes not in an abnormal state of mind. . . . well, from how she usually is. She cleaned the instruments in front of her as he spoke, as he instructed. . .when she was done, she wrote down in her notes the steps and what was done.
She did take note of the other one's uneasiness? of his own skills, from what had occurred. . . . . she pondered apon the offers he started to give.
He was in more need than her, she feels. .
". . . .You only truly fail, if you give up. " she finally spoke to the more timid of werewolves. She then turned her attention towards 'groves' from what she could gather.
" You are just as capable to succeed as anyone within this room. Do not base your worth nor your capabilities apon how you begin. Everyone begins with a lack of skill. . .Once more, you have a good teacher to teach you. Only good teachers are willing to aid you in cultivating your skills despite how you begin. . . . . If you are your own worse enemy in this, then let yourself breathe. . . . Give yourself time and quiet your mind. Those who bloom later, are no lesser nor greater than those who bloom earlier. Just be patient with yourself. "
She turned back around to face forward. "I am alright. . . Go learn from him. "
She needed to deal with the demons haunting her mind alone for now. . . The last thing she wanted to do was drag everyone else down with her. . .

Simon felt his face heat up a little. He really was thankful for the patience Officer Lucidus was offering. He didn't want to make it a big thing, he hated wasting the time of others or causing issues where there didn't need to be them, but the guy was offering and it clearly wasn't as big a deal as he was worried it was. He tried to find his chill and a response that wasnt self deprecating.
"Oh, um. I'd like that, if you got time n' all. Yes. Thank you."
He wasn't going to be going anywhere though until he figured out if the short woman needed anything. She caught him off guard however when she flipped it on him, offering him advice. He felt slightly flustered, again not wanting to make a big deal of things.
"I- Uh, well. Thanks, um," he glanced up at the gold badge and rubbed the back of his neck as he returned his attention to the short woman,"you got some wisdom there, lady. Heh. Alrighty, I'll give it another go and we'll see if I can't manage to explode something, eh?," He wasn't sure the joke landed so he wiggled his fingers for effect,"... Thanks."
He was still a little concerned for her, but she was telling him to go, so he would.
"Alright, uh, whenever you got a moment then, no rush or nothin', seriously."
He gave Officer Lucidus a small grin. There were still other students about, and Simon wouldn't dream of taking his attention away from someone who had a question or needed help. He tried not to feel anxious. It was fine. This wasn't a big deal, he didn't need to prove anything.
By now he knew the song and dance about what went in the potion, and he gathered it up. Okay. He was gonna be cool this time. A cool dude making potions.

To Kazan's great relief, the purple coloration melted off his coat and faded from his fingernails. He couldn't see his hair as well, but if the long tuft at the end of his tail was any indication, his true colors were quickly bleeding through the atrocious hue. He resisted the urge to run his hands over his fur and smooth it. Instead, he'd wait until he could go home and brush thoroughly, get rid of the last lingering hints of what the potion had done.
At the instructor's words the centaur's eyebrows lifted again just slightly. He canted a vaguely skeptical look at Malgrim before returning his attention to his station without a word, accepting the booklet Agent Lucidus handed to him. "My thanks."
It was a breakdown of other potions as well a list of components and equipment. Some of the ingredients he could make room for in the greenhouse. They probably wouldn't be especially challenging to grow, but their utility would more than make up for the space they consumed. And he'd have to ask Friday to procure some of the other items listed. Despite the humility of being purple for that brief amount of time, he was more and more intrigued by the abilities of these potions and keen to learn what else they could accomplish.

Grim smiled widely back at the attractive cat-eyed youth. At least one person wasn’t angry at him.
“Same! It would be childish to make a fuss of a simple color change without good reason. Gotta have some fun. I just wished I had more hair... Wonder if there’s a potion for that?”
Grim relaxed in the chair a little more with the heat off him. Last thing this lesson had needed was a fight that he had started. In his opinion his potion had been a success, whether it was the exact shade of purple was a bit finicky for his tastes. He looked at Cassius wondering what he would look like with neon purple hair... Was it worth getting him to go through it again, just to see it? Definitely.
“ It’s a hands on demonstration, right? I would be honored for you to guide through it with me again, as long as you would be brave enough to drink it yourself?”
He gave the officer a wink and a large grin.

"There's probably a potion for just about anything...I'm Faolan, by the way." He extended a hand to shake as he waited for the half-goblin to introduce himself.
He glanced up as Cassius approached their table a moment later. Faolan nodded earnestly as the officer described where he'd gone wrong, jotting it down in his notes. At least it hadn't been a major mistake, but he wanted to try again to get it perfect.
It looked like Grim also wanted to be walked through the steps again - though he definitely seemed to have more intention to flirt than genuinely learn.
"If it's not too much trouble, I'd also like for you to go through the steps again." He said, trying not to smile as Grim winked at the grizzled man.

Zavijah:
Cassius half-smiled at Zavi’s reply to Agent Groves as he worked on helping clean her instrumentation. He then went to the cabinet, and set up the ingredients for the reversal agent. Hopefully she would remember it when she had to reverse her potions at home.
At least for this batch, he personally guided her through it to ensure that she got the agent right. He moved his hands over her instrumentation, waiting for her to follow through with each step as he adjusted. He was patient, and never became angry. If she made multiple mistakes, he physically intervened and helped adjust so that she did not create another faulty potion.
When she was done, and had created the reversal agent, he turned and addressed Agent Groves himself.
Simon:
“Yes, that is exactly right. Everyone who is here is more successful than anyone who decided not to come today.. You may think you have failed, but you have all done well. That is why you have all earned some of my respect today.”
Cassius’ tone was even and calm as he watched Simon gather ingredients. This time, he helped measure the amounts of each on the gram scale, and then watched as he ground and purified them. When Simon was about to make a misstep, he simply stepped in and made any necessary alterations. There were not many places he needed to step in. Simon was decent at following directions.
Finally, after all was said and done, the potion was created. The swirl and appearance was perfect, and it seemed to be the correct color.
“Good, good. Exactly what we were looking for.”
He seemed to consider touching Simon on the shoulder, but thought better of it and nodded at him instead.
“I have a booklet with the material for the coming weeks, if you are interested in attending any further sessions.”
Kazan:
Cassius tilted his head. The centaur was indeed good at what he did, and the potion had come out well.
This one would likely do well in the following classes. He had an eye for detail. Detail orientation and precision were the most important things in the creation of potions.
“Let me know if you have trouble procuring any ingredients, or have questions on anything else we have discussed today.”
He indicated that Kazan was free to leave if he wished.
Grim: The large man tilted over the table, and started setting up the potion again, cleaning the instrumentation.
“I would be glad to.”
He did not seem to get the flirt, or if he did, he was doing a good job of not showing it. He collected a new batch of ingredients to use.
This time, he helped measure the amounts of each on the gram scale, and then watched as he ground and purified them. When Grim was about to make a misstep, he simply stepped in and made any necessary alterations
Finally, after all was said and done, the potion was created. The swirl and appearance was perfect, and it seemed to be the correct color.
He poured half into a dixie cup, and then offered Malgrim the other cup.
“To health.”
He tipped it back, and true to his word, his hair and nails turned a deep and moderate shade of purple. The color was lovely, and had a shimmer to it. He seemed completely unperturbed by how ridiculous he looked.
“This is the correct color with the perfect mixing. Rarely do you need to mix to such perfection, however.”
Faolan:
“It is never too much trouble. This is what I am here for. If you make this again, and it is not to your standards, you may ask me what went wrong, and I can tell you.”
His hair, nails, eyebrows, and new stubble growing in are all a deep shade of purple. It was admittedly not his best look, and did not seem to compliment either his bruises or scars very well, but he seemed unperturbed.
“I’ll get you fresh ingredients and then we can walk through it again.”
Cassius went to his cabinets to get new ingredients. This time, he helped measure the amounts of each on the gram scale, and then watched as he ground and purified them. When Fao was about to make a misstep, he simply stepped in and made any necessary alterations.
Finally, the potion appeared to be the appropriate color and mixture. It sat in front of the two of them, gently swirling.
“There we go.”

zavijah:
As the officer explained what to do, he would find it was alot easier. . . . measurements were very precised, she only had to be told once, or shown once. if anything, it came off as though there was a language barrier between her and the paper rather than a gap in understanding the concept of what was needed and at what amount. . . . did not help when it seemed as though words seem to jump around for the woman. something in addition to the language barrier made it harder. . . . but it was not clear as to what that was exactly.
The only thing she was seeming to pick up from the written instructions was the numbers. . . .Still, she wrote notes apon each ingredient as she did prior, wrote notes apon the instructions looking at the foreign language she was writing down it was written from up to down, towards the right side of the page, ans non of the letters looked recognizable. It did not help that it seemed as though she was short handing the writing in addition to it being in a completely different language. Then there was the pacing of how fast she went, she was going slower, so catching almost mistakes was easier than if she were to have gone his speed or the speed of the other students. . . .
Though she, herself, was not keen on having his sole attention. . .She did not like having to be outed to not be able to read the same tongue as they did. . . especially in such a public manner. . . . .
What an embarrassment.
They will not tolerate this.
Remove the weakest.
The voices hissed from behind her head. . . she knew they did not come from those currently present, but rather those who haunt her from her past. . . .there was nothing she can do to remedy nor silence them. . . .only ignore as best as she could. . . . .for entertaining them would only bring more of them out. . . Why let those of the present become aware of those hunting her from her past? . . . . .better to not allow those same demons access to anyone else. . . .let them die with her. . .
She bowed and thanked him for aiding her when the potion was done, but she found she could not meet the officer's eyes. . . . She was too ashamed of the inability of her she had preformed in reading. . .As painful of a process she felt it was due to trying to read the english instructions, it was done, and the reversal potion sat before her completed. . .and she got to work writing notes apon this while the officer began to work with the other students. . . .
As keen as the half horse was in purging her from the classroom and as poorly as she did in trying to read. . . she would not be surprised if she did end up being removed. . . .Treat every lesson as though it will be the last and tread with caution, she must do, for she feels she only has marred a target apon her back.
This is what instinct was telling her what to do. . .prepare, take notes, notice the differences between what she did at home when she was preforming table alchemy vs what the officer has shown her. . . . . she would be able to pick up on the subtitles and perhaps 'reinvent' the wheel and figure out potions from the two he had shown her. . . . the reversal was a more universal nullifying agent while the first was an color change. . . one that tacked onto the make up of her hair and nails. . . Another question was what component or components were making these potions 'magic'? they seemed to emit a strange energy that was completely foreign to her. non of her own that she had made at home did this. . .
Perhaps it was the composition of the soil the ingredients were grown from? or perhaps the plants themselves? then there was the task of figuring out which ingredient did what within each potion. . . .but for now, learn what she can from the officer, as many potions as she can before they remove her. . . . .

Simon was definitely trying his best. Mixing and pouring, and listening when Officer Lucidus corrected him. Practice helped, certainly, and his hands weren't shaking this time. He'd really gotten in his head about it on his last attempt, convinced himself that everyone's opinions of him were tied up in potion making. Which was just plain stupid, if he was frank- but he wasn't, he was Simon. Hah.
He observed the final result with hopefulness. His eyes flicked from Officer Lucidus to the potion several times, and then sighed in relief when his concoction was given the okay. He let himself smile a little, and then pulled a more exaggerated face at the gold badge, grinning and wiggling his fingers around the potion.
"Hey, and I didn't even blow the joint up...! Heh. Thank you."
He nodded when offered a booklet. He'd been about ready to skip town and change his name a bit earlier, but he was feeling more confident now that he knew that the guy teaching em wasn't going to bite his head off for making mistakes.
"Yes, please. I think looking over stuff before hand would, uh, help."
Simon tapped a finger on the potion, eyeing it, then chugged the thing. He looked incredibly pleased, and rather purple.
He watched as the doctor and the other fellow encouraged their instructor to make and drink a potion, and grinned.
He decided he'd stick around and offer to help do clean up.

Grim took Faolan’s hand and shook it in a friendly manner.
“Malgrim Albercroft, PI. Most folks call me Grim.”
He smiled showing sharp teeth.
Grim was amused greatly by Cassius’ failure to pick up on his suggestion, though he was sad not to get a reaction. He noted down all the mistakes he made and what he needed to do to improve. Despite his joking around he did want to learn this.
“To magical encounters...”
He couldn’t help himself.
He drank the rest of the potion, hoping that it tasted as good as the last one. It was a much more pleasant purple.
“Thanks, I really appreciate the help. I will strive to do as well in future potions.”

Faolan looked pleased at the final result of his second potion. The color was much better this time, though he did quite like the darker shade on himself. It looked like Groves had perfect the potion this time around too, and he sent the short werewolf an encouraging smile.
"Thank you," he echoed after Malgrim, drinking down the potion as he did. He watched the changing hue of his nails and the fine hair on his arms with the same quiet fascination of before. Magic, even as mundane or simplistic as this, never failed to interest him.
"Agent Lucidus, will this class advance to potions with healing properties at all?" He ventured, looking hopeful. "I think a lot of the staff in medical would really be really interested in alchemy along those lines."
