Jedidiah:
He wasn't home all the time, and neither was his roommate. . . sometimes he has disappeared down into the shop to do some work if Ash did not seem like he was home at the time. . . though he would try to make sure some food was prepared for Ash when he got home. . .
But despite not necessarily being home all the time, even he wasn't blind to the downturn of his friend's overall mood. That his mood slowly became worse and worse as he slowly declined into clinical depression levels of low. . . this worried him. . .so he took a day off, grabbed beach towels, swim trunks for the both of them and gently offered and took Ash towards the beach. . . they have talked about it but he hasn't taken him yet, and its now spring going into summer. . . relatively peaceful yet still warming up. so the water will not be terribly cold and the beach wouldn't be terribly crowded. . . that and the are a plethora of shells for them to collect. .
he had a plan to hopefully try and cheer his friend up abit. . . whom he has declared as his brother. . . he wanted to extend his hand to him before its too late. . . hes only just seeing the signs. . . he doesn't want to be too late. . just because he has noticed doesn't mean the decline had started at the point he noticed, just that it was bad enough. . . who knows how long it has been going beforehand?
if it takes nabbing his 'brother' for random adventures and or just sitting with him and talking to him, so be it. . . . it pained him to see others suffer. . .little alone those whom he considered his friends. . . .and God forbid,if it was his family who suffered.
"so where would you like to set up tent? " he asked "near the peer? the tide pools? in between? " he continued. "its early enough in the season that theres plenty of seashells to go after, not crowded. . yet not so cold as for the water to be icey. "

Ash didn't want to be a burden. He didn't feel well - he was tired... and lonely... but he didn't want to be a burden to Dr. Jedi, so he tried not to let it show. Still, he had been eating less and sleeping more, was quieter and more withdrawn. He wasn't unfriendly, he didn't want to be rude - he'd eat with Jedi when the other asked him to, would spend time with him when he wasn't busy...
That's what he was doing today. He hadn't been sure that he had felt like going out, but Jedi had seemed to be looking forward to it. So he had kept his human form today and changed into the clothing that he had been told was appropriate for a trip to the beach, taken a towel and a bag with beach-things in it. He'd slowed a bit as they arrived at the beach. It wasn't quite like the one he had found, tucked away in the shadow of the mountain cliffs - it was more open, a larger stretch of flat sand, turning to more rocky terrain dotted with pools. It wasn't crowded, but there were still other people - humans so far as he knew - scattered about. There were more by the pier, walking along it out toward where it stretched over the water.
He wasn't sure he felt up to that many people. And the shallow pools amid the rocks seemed interesting. "We can... be near the pools? Does the water truly go so high? We should... be above it, so these towels don't get wet..."
Once they picked out a spot, he followed Jedi's lead in laying out a towel, then fished a pole and a folded umbrella out of his bag. He took a few moments to set the shade up - he wasn't sure he needed it, but perhaps Jedi might?

Jedidiah:
"Tide pools? Alright, we can set up there. " he replied. He quietly pondered how to help his friend . . . Good thing hes smuggled fishing gear in the bag he grabbed. Along with that was some home cooked food he packed, and other stuff for the beach. . . .
Though of course, he let Ash help set up. . . . He did pick a spot out of the reach where the high tide water line did not touch. . . So while Ash set the umbrella up, he set the towels up.
When they were all set up be glanced over at Ash after he removed his shirt. His arm and leg wrapped with bandage wrapping. "For the tidal pools? Well with the beach theres the high tide and the low tide. . Alternates every 6 hours . . . Though yes, good idea we set up here just incase. " he replied. " so, would you like to eat first? Go swimming? Shelling? Fishing?" He asked.
The tide pools looked almost swirly and old from the countless hundreds of thousands of years of weathering small crabs, hermits, shellfishs, and other various other sealife.

It took a bit for Ash to set up the umbrella - it started falling the first time he tried to put it up, and it took him a few moments to figure out that it needed to be wedged deeper into the sand. By the time he had finished, Jedi already had the towels laid out to sit on, a basket with food in it set on one and another bag with other things in it laid between the two.
Ash eyed the umbrella a bit warily, half expecting it to fall again, but after a moment he stepped away from it to look around a bit. When he saw Jedi remove his shirt, he followed suit and set the folded garment carefully on one of the towels, then glanced up at Jedi again. "You need to keep those bandaged still? Is it to keep them dry?"
At the other's question he looked around uncertainly, moving to peer into one of the rocky tidepools. "I... What would you like to do? I've never seen pools like this. They are not very deep..."

Hau was in his element. The shining sun, the sandy beach, the breaking waves and the surf board beneath his feet were all such a relief to his soul. The last few weeks had been nothing but dead end leads, wasted time and frustration. And each night he dragged himself back to that hotel room it seemed smaller and dingier than he remembered it. He missed his home something fierce. He called his family regularly, but that was no replacement for actually being there. Just like this beach wasn’t anything like the clear warm waters off of Hawaii, but it was close enough.
There was a place that rented surf equipment about half a mile down the shore and Hau had been out here since this morning. He’d have to head in soon, he could feel the ache in his legs and back, all muscles he hadn’t used since leaving the islands for the mainland. But he was enjoying himself too much to come in yet, especially not with only that dismal hotel room to look forward to.
The board abruptly slid to the left and Hau fell off the other side, driven down into the water by the wave he’d just been riding. For a moment, he had no idea which way was up, the whole world had been swallowed by the swirling tide. Then he felt something scrape against his legs, that had to be the ocean bed, and he braced against it and pushed back to the surface. His head smashed against the surfboard as he breached the water, and he pushed it away angrily before suddenly changing his mind and pulling it close, using it to float with while he coughed the water out of his lungs.
Maybe it was time to call it a day after all. He’d drifted too far from the pier anyway. A few yards further and he would have ended up smeared across the rocks or dumped into one of the tide pools. As he found his footing and emerged from the shallows he felt the tug of the leash wrapped around his leg. Looking closer, he discovered the chord was red with blood. That wipe out was worse than he thought, he must have found a piece of coral or something underwater. His leg was gashed from ankle to knee. There was an infection waiting to happen.
With a scowl, he dropped into the sand on the shore, still catching his breath. After he had a moment to rest he'd reel in the surfboard and return it. Maybe they had a first aid kit at the rental place.

Jedidiah:
he glanced at the umbrella before smiling. " thank you for setting the umbrella up. . .they can be pretty picky. " he called, patting Ash gently on the back. a job well done, even the small jobs need to be done well, otherwise its the small things that can sneak up on one at the least expected moment.. when ash asked about the bandages he paused for a moment.
"ahh. . " he glanced at the bandages abit. " . . its to keep the sharks from noticing the metal. " he replied, before glancing at his friend with a gentle smile. " sharks can be pretty tricky and vindictive predators. . . shiny things like metal draws them in pretty quickly. . . " he explained. "theres not much i can do about the water or sand getting inside of them. . just means I will need to thoroughly wash em or fire them out when we get home. but drawing a shark near you or anyone else. that I can help by at least covering them up. "
"would you like to go shelling with me? " he asked. " we can find some pretty shells to work on, or just keep. " he offered. . though when he glanced up, he noticed a surfer. . he didnt give it a second thought before he noticed the blood trailing him into the water. . .
shet."Ash, we might need to help him. " he noted. "hey!" he called towards the surfer. .flinching abit from his own deep voice carrying pretty far. "are you alright? " he asked, walking over towards the man who had hit the shore fairly close, but not too close to where they had set up for the day.

Ash allowed a small smile at Jedi's thanks, bobbing his head in a quick nod. It was the least he could do, wasn't it? But he still liked the praise and he leaned a little into the pat to his shoulder.
"Sharks? Like... big... fish? They like metal?" That was a curious thought, but perhaps it might be useful to know if he ever wanted to hunt a shark. "Do they come so close to the shore? I thought they are too big..."
"Shelling? You mean... Oh, that might be fun." Ash smiled again, a bit more openly. "Okay, let's go shell-" His voice trailed off in a slight stammer as a scent drifted to him. His senses were dulled in this form, but still a little better than a normal human. There was blood in the air, and he froze a moment as his eyes sought out the sources.
He found it at about the same time Jedi did, a man with bright blue hair not too far down the beach. There was a binding on the man's bleeding leg, trailing off into the water where it attached to some sort of... float?
He glanced toward Jedi quick when the other spoke, nodding quickly. "Yes, he is injured," he agreed, then began to hurry toward the man, keeping up with Jedi's longer stride.

“Hey! Are you alright?”
Hau jumped at the sound of the voice. Glancing around, he spotted a pair of people coming down the beach towards him. At first, the thought maybe he’d hit his head on the board too hard but as they approached, it was clear that one of the individuals was enormous. Nearly twice Hau’s own height. He’d be lying if he said he wasn’t a little intimidated by that.
Scrambling to his feet, he felt the pain sharpen as he put weight on his leg again. “Yeah, it’s fine.” He tried to wave them off. No need to disrupt someone else’s day on the beach because he was out of practice. “It looks worse than it really is.” The water still dripping off his shorts mingling with the blood made it look like it was bleeding more than it actually was. He tried to brush the wound off, but that only seemed to make more of a mess of his leg, his hand and the sand. He bit his tongue to suppress a grimace. This was going well.
The real complication would be if there were still pieces of whatever he hit still in his leg. Coral had a tendency to do that and surfers were well aware of it. But neither of these two looked to be the surfing type so it probably wouldn’t even occur to them. Hau would clean himself up in the hotel room later, it wouldn’t be a problem.
“I’m fine, really.”

Jedidiah:
"wait, don't get up too quickly. " he called, now seeing the wound closer. . he grimaced as he approached. . slowing his pace so he doesn't kick sand onto the man. . " its alright, Im an doctor and I have a first aid kit in our bags. . . . " he informed. where he stopped, he was not ontop of the man, and he did lower his voice so he was not bellowing at the poor lad from 5 feet away. . . but he wasn't half way there either. . .
"if you would like, we have enough supplies to stabilize it. . .I can at least look and see if you didn't fracture anything when you hit im assuming coral or exposed rock. would you mind? " he added. at best, he has an over glorified scrape that looks worse then it is. . . at worse, fractured bone, coral or other debris lodged into his muscle and tendons. . . if not into the bone itself. . . . infection risks and worse if smaller partials travel up the bloodstream and become lodged somewhere like the heart valve or in the smaller vessels. . . or brain, causing a multitude of issues to come. . . potentially at best hindering the man's ability to surf or taking it away. . .at worse, death.
"My name is Jedidiah Gurulf. . . this is Ash, Im not going to force you to allow us to help you, but considering how far it is from the pier. . . would you like for us to help? at least make sure its not more serious then it might be?" he asked.

Ash hesitated when the injured man began to stand, looking uncertainly to Jedidiah. The smell of blood was still strong, although it mixed with the salt and ocean-smell and was a little difficult to pick apart. As Jedidiah mentioned the first-aid kit, Ash seemed to startle a little, glancing back that way.
"Ah... I will... retrieve the kit," Ash offered, bobbing his head in a quick nod to Jedi and the injured man, then he hurried back to where they had set up. It took him a few moments to figure out which bag the first-aid kit was in, and then he retrieved it and hurried back to where Jedi loomed over the injured man.
He hesitated again when he arrived - they were still a few paces from the injured man, but with his size Jedi could likely close the distance within a step. Ash glanced from the giant to the injured man, then took a few steps closer.
"You should wash it, at the least. We can help, but if you do not want help... There is wound-cleaning alcohol in the kit, and bandages..." He offered the kit for the blue-haired man to take - at least, if he didn't want help anyway.

Hau’s eyebrows shot up. “I never would have guessed you were a doctor.” He admitted, looking the big man over again, still trying to believe what he was seeing. Really, how did someone get so tall? Hau caught himself staring, and jerked his gaze away to watch Ash heading back to where the pair had dropped their bags. “I didn’t want to interrupt your time at the beach here.” He admitted with a touch of guilt.
Though the offer was tempting the more Hau thought about it. Hauling that surfboard back to the rental hut, with all the people on the now crowded beach, he really didn’t want to make a spectacle of himself. He glanced back down at his leg. The blood was starting to slow, it was easier to make out the long jagged gash and the accompanying scrapes now. And was that a fragment of something black? Maybe it was the best choice to take care of it here.
He waited until Jedidiah’s companion had returned before he introduced himself. “I’m Hau. It’s nice to meet you.” Hau was still quite new to town, he could count the number of people he’d introduced himself to on one hand and still have fingers left over. Then Ash offered him the first aid kit. “Thanks, I appreciate the help. Really.” Hau gave him a small smile and reached for it, but then remembered the blood all over his hand. Right. He really didn’t need to be making a mess of everything in that kit on top of everything else he’d screwed up today.
“Um, maybe you’d better handle it?” He said, looking up at Jedidiah.

Jedidiah:
"nice to meet you, mr. hau. " he nodded when the young man introduced himself. "thank you ash for grabbing the med kit, im sorry its probably abit heavy. " he added, glancing and nodding at his friend with an apologetic grin. when he glanced back towards Hau, he noted that he seemed to consider things, begin to reach out before retracting his hand. . glancing at him to clean the wound instead. . when Hau was accepting help from them, asking him to look at it. . he took another pace or so, more like half paces before he crouched down. being very careful not to step on anything or kick sand up. " here, it will be easier if you sit down, perhaps on your board? " he suggested.
he honestly should of grabbed the med kit instead of making Ash grab it instead as an afterthought, normally he was ontop of such things, though he was prepared to just pick Hau up and haul him back towards their stuff, board n all. . though poor lad . . . . ash needs the busyness abit. help slow down and make him do work, while he processes what is going on. . . . this actually makes him worried abit should Ash decide to go the medical route. . . . . not every story is an happy ending, sometimes, you loose the patients you like or cherish, enjoy conversing with . . . .though he cant coddle his friend either, he just needs to at least be there for his friend. let him know hes at least not alone, he has a home where people still care.
the med kit itself had alcohol, a jug of water to clean sand out of wounds, wraps, bandages, tweezers, a field surgery kit, meat tenderizer, a trauma kit thats more typically used in hunting accidents, an epi pen just in case, disposable med placement mats-over glorified napkins to do medical things on- antihistamines, aspirins, pain killers and what not, all methodically organized within the bag. . . . . . he had the old habit of packing enough to almost replace an ambulance. . he practically was the ambulance in the mountains where he use to live and practice.
" here, Ash, set the med kit here, I think I might need your hands with this just in case." he stared gently. whenever Ash sets the med kit down, he will reach for the water jug to start carefully rinsing the sand and other debris out of the wound site.

Ash seemed to realize his mistake as he made it, his face blanching slightly as he saw all of the blood on the blue-haired man's hands. He hesitated even as the other hesitated, and then when told they should handle it, he turned instead to offer the medkit to Jedi.
Ash wasn't thinking about a potential future in a medical career - he wasn't much thinking about futures at all. Thoughts about a future here were only reminders that he couldn't go back home. Just now he was only thinking that it was a lot of blood on Hau's hands, although a glance down told him the flow down the other's leg had lessened a bit. He took a step back to give Jedi room to work, and then when he was asked to help he moved near again - offered an apologetic smile to Hau - and then knelt to do as asked.
He opened the medkit and took out the bottle of alcohol to set within easy reach for Jedi, then took out the tweezers, wraps and bandages, a hooked needle and thread in case stitches were needed. He hesitated a moment, glancing up to Jedi, then took one of the bottles of painkillers, opened it, and knocked a couple pills into his hand.
"Ah... does it hurt very much? Here, use this and ah... then you can have these. They will help I hope." He offered first a cloth to wipe off his hands, then the painkillers.

As Ash unpacked the first aid kit, Hau fully expected him to pull out a kitchen sink as well. The kit was enormous, packed with everything he could imagine. “Where on earth do you get something like that?” He asked, curious.
When Ash offered him the cloth, Hau took it gratefully. “Thanks.” It felt good to wipe the blood and sand off his hands. When it came to the painkillers, though, he paused. Medication made him wary, certain chemicals had the potential to force him to change. He’d been prescribed some pills when he was a child and sick with the flu that had forced him into fox form. He’d hid under the blankets of his bed till it wore off. Luckily, his mother had just assumed he was asleep and had never discovered the truth, but the close call had frightened him enough to swear off anything he wasn’t able to test safely at home. And the idea of changing into a fox in front of all these people on the beach was enough to make him shiver. “I’ll, ah, pass on those.” His leg was still throbbing from its recent salt water bath and all the getting up and getting down, but he’d live.
Hau unstrapped the leash from his ankle, using the cord to pull the surfboard in close. He made sure the fins were buried in the sand so no one would get cut on them then settled himself on it, tucking his good leg beneath himself and stretching his bad one out with a hiss. So close to the wound now, Hau had the resist the urge investigate it too closely, he didn’t want to get into Jedidiah’s way.

Jedidiah:
he was careful as he used perhaps an 8th of the contents of the gallon of water to wash the sand and tiny bits of rock that sat on or was lightly held just inside of some of the 'flaps' of tattered flesh from the aggressive sanding of the young man's leg. . from his knee to his ankle, before he with an very gentle hand, examined the wound, picking the leg up, but only alittle. . . and slightly twisting it when need be. . . gently prodding around the site with a clean gloved hand. .
he was looking for shrapnel, sliced tendons or muscles, broken, fractured or debris that had lodged into the bone. from the bleeding it was deceptively messy. . though it could be shallow scraps and cuts or there could be parts lodged in and holding pressure until the bloodvessels either popped the debris into itself and carried it until it becomes lodged in another area, breaks apart and does the same or its removed and blood begins to flow. there was definitely some bruising, the tissue had the consistent tender texture before the swelling and in due time it will swell. . .
