“That’s called a paw, Vahi,” said a voice good-naturedly.
Sarkany dropped to the ground a moment later, having slipped down from the canopy, branch by branch, until he could land lightly on his feet. He was not a tall or well-built man by any standard, and he looked especially small and pale beside the vivid bulk of the drakes. Even so, he seemed very comfortable in the thick of larger predators. He returned any gaze of the drake’s with a calm stare, slightly indirect as was the way with predators. Closer up, there was something slightly off about the man’s pupils - a touch too narrow, and a little too small to be human pupils. Even if the hawk’s eye yellow hadn’t given him away.

There was an entirely smug smile on Audun's face as he drew back from the kiss, almost giddy, but slightly too self-satisfied. The expression was wiped off not a second later as he took in Sara's new form.
He gaped at her, a look of shock, and then starry-eyed awe overcoming his features. He hadn't expected an immediate shift - but he certainly wasn't complaining, and it showed in how quick he was to shift back. In a blur of movement he was once again a drake, stepping close and sniffing all over Sara's muzzle and neck in an almost frenzied motion, horns jarring against hers in his excitement. He jerked back with a nonverbal "sorry", a short chuff of breath and a sideways stare, only to move back in a heartbeat later.
"Wow, it actually worked!" came the exclamation as he circled her, taking in her markings and her horns with a puppyish amazement. For the time being he seemed to have forgotten his uncertainty, too caught up by the sudden appearance of a female drake to be worried about his awkwardness or his suspicion. "I didn't think you'd be bigger then -"
He baulked back with a surprised snort as Sara almost fell. Of course, she...wasn't actually a drake. Didn't know how to coordinate everything just yet. He steadied her with a shoulder, briefly, and moved back as she slowly inspected her new form. His mouth was ajar as he took in her scent, and as she settled on her haunches, he gave her an especially appreciative look.
"You're even more beautiful then before." a creeping, reptilian smile, the forward statement delivered with the same honest boldness he had spoken with initially. He seemed to be about to say more, but abruptly swung his head around as her friend spoke up. He had almost forgotten his presence, he had stayed so quiet. The silent descent, his calm demeanour, and those eyes all spoke of a fellow predator, and Auduns interest narrowed in. He took a measured step forward, and ducked his head to a lower angle, gaze averted just slightly. It seemed to be almost forced - mimicked manners.
"What are you, then?" he ducked his head lower, studying the man. "You are a shape changer too - but not the same as her?" he sent Sara a sideways glance, before his attention returned to Sarkany. His next words were not quite hushed, more of a lowered rumble. "She called you a pain in the rear. So I know you're not her mate. Right?" the questions came one after another, in rapid but clearly spoken draconic. The young drake had not quite gotten over his excitement, and it showed in the bluntness and the cluelessness of his queries.

Sara didn’t mind the enthusiastic exploration of her, she didn’t even mind when Audun bumped horns with her. It was endearing, really, how excited he got - she’d seen it before in supers who hadn’t seen their own kind in a long time, so she was more than happy to oblige. If anything, she puffed a little with excited pride on the inside (she did, however, spare a moment to snort in Sarkany’s direction for the paw comment, ruffling his hair with a hot breath). Sara loved shifting, had done since the powers had first manifested in her and she always enjoyed showing it off to other people and seeing the looks of joy, wonder or elation in others. She was less happy when she accidentally scared another person, as had also happened before, but she was trying her best to measure situations and use her powers accordingly. Audun had certainly been ecstatic to see another drake.
The comment about her being beautiful, however, might need a little addressing. Not that she didn’t appreciate the compliment and to be fair it might be a completely normal thing to say for his species, like complimenting a person on how they’re dressed. But Sara got the impression he might be finding her a little too interesting and visions of dogs, deer and birds who had also gotten the wrong idea flickered across her mind. Best to gently mention it now, let him know where she stood.
Whenever she acquired a new form, the shifter became aware, in an instinctive, general sort of a way, of the body language and vocalisations of the species in question. She was never well-versed, not from the get-go at least and without practice would come across as a foreign traveller who has only read the language and never spoken it. It would be a stilted kind of accent, but with enough knowledge to get by. However, with practice, Sara had become fluent in some of weird and wonderful languages used by supers in Wathais. Draconic would likely be no different.
Attempting English with the jaws she now had would likely prove difficult, so instead she thought she would try out the more guttural, growling language that had begun crowding in the back of her head and the tip of her tongue. Or, at least, that was the intention.
“So I know you’re not her mate. Right?”
Any thoughts of gently telling Audun to mind the intention behind his compliments was abruptly wiped from Sara’s head. The shifter’s muzzle swung in Sarkany’s direction, staring at him unblinkingly for a second or two. A glance in Audun’s direction, back to Sarkany. All of a sudden, the drake’s muzzle wrinkled into what might have been the beginnings of a snarl, but soon turned out to be a barking, uncontrollable laughter. The very idea that Sarkany and her would be anything close to mates was hysterical. She couldn’t even really explain why, but at that moment in time the whole idea really tickled her and then she just couldn’t stop. Sara rolled onto her back, legs and tail wiggling in the grips of her laughter. A few words of draconic, garbled both from inexperience and her amusement, escaped from between her teeth. {No. No, very much no. We’d bite each other head off.}

“Skies no.” Sarkany chuckled, sidestepping the shifter’s tail as she rolled about in hysterics. “I’m just another shape she stole. Thought we should come out for lessons before she starts developing bad habits with it.”
Probably not an issue today, he thought. Sara was like a pup on its first hunt, exuberant and distracted by every gust and spore. He imagined she’d be busy with the new shape for the present, and that was fine by him. He chose to stay in his human shape, smiling through human features. Could the drake read those more easily, he wondered?
“I suggest you do the same,” he said, nodding at the prone shifter. “Before she breaks something.”

As Sara's muzzle wrinkled, the male drake visibly stiffened. The beginnings of a reptilian snarl marred his own features, jaws cracking open by a few inches - only to gape wider as she fell into a bout of hysterical laughter, rolling about like a pup. It hadn't been that funny, or that rude, he thought.
He stepped back as Sarkany did, mindful of the whip-like tail Sara was thrashing about. It was a blessing that he was in his least expressive form, because their laughter, good natured as it was, stung, and he would have been flushing in embarrassment in his human shape. As it was, his tail simply curled closer to himself, and he angled himself slightly away from them both.
“I was just checking.” he mumbled defensively. Despite his embarrassment, he was pleased with her answer. Mated pairs tended to be more aggressive, so he could at least factor that out. He seemed slightly more at ease with the man's presence after this revelation, and even took his advice to heart, as it was, lifting one large clawed paw and gently pinning the tip of Sara's tail when it next swiped past them both.
“You should be careful with this. It really hurts if you hit a rock or a tree.” he said, rather seriously, but with a slight smile to his voice. The excitement at having another drake - another drake exactly like himself - was creeping back. “And with your horns. When I grew mine, I was always bumping them on something.” There was a pause, as he tried to think of important things she should know. “Oh! And your teeth. Venom. So don't bite unless you're hunting. Or fighting.”

The touch to her tail drew a halt to Sara's wiggling. While still on her back, she looked up at the other drake, noting now the defensiveness that had crept into his voice and got the sense he had been embarrassed. Her exuberance and humour dulled, wrestled back under control as she realised how she was acting and how it was coming across. She hadn't meant to upset him.
Slowly, the shifter turned over and pushed herself back to her feet. She pivoted towards Audun and, while being careful of the horns he had just warned her about, bumped her muzzle gently into his shoulder in a very animalistic show of apology. Her Draconic was already starting to become more fluent, but still she used very short sentences, faltering for a moment in places. {Sorry. Was not.. laughing at you.} Sara stepped back, opening and closing her mouth to feel her teeth gently clack together. Venom? She'd certainly have to be mindful of that. {Thank you. For warning.}
Now the shifter sat down again, carefully curling her tail over her paws to keep it out of the way. She tipped her head in Sarkany's direction. {He floats... I can't. Even in his form.} Lifting a paw, the shifter then indicated the skin stretched between her legs, curious excitement again creeping into her voice and gaze. {But you glide? Also, heat, here.} The paw came to pat her own chest, where she could still feel the new, unexplained, pulsing warmth. {Fire?}

At the mention of floating, Sarkany looked the very picture of innocence. Standing stationary, both feet planted firmly on the ground, he showed no signs of doing anything of the kind. He only took several pronounced steps sideways, out of the path of the ginger drake and the points she indicated on her chest. It was common sense not to stand in front of a firebreather, especially a several-minutes old specimen. But a hint of a smile played around the seraph's mouth too, and a certain laughter in his eyes that indicated it was at least partly in jest.

"Floats?" Audun echoed, turning to regard the blond man. He had the look of a predator about him, and an old one at that. It was something in the easy smile and the sharpness in his yellow gaze. The drake edged closer. "What species are you? I've never seen anything like you before." The question was demanding, and blunt, but there was an attempt at respect as he inclined his head and angled his gaze to the side. He'd asked already, but his blundering guess at their relationship status had swept it out of the way and he hadn't gotten an answer.
He turned back to Sara when she spoke, perking up once again at the questions. "Yes, to both. Gliding...hm. It's difficult. We're too heavy for it to really work...it's more for show. I think. Like you flaring before, makes you look scarier." there was a slight grin, and he kept his tone light. "Fire breathing is much easier. Just take a deep breath and..." There was a pause as he considered how to expain. It came naturally to him, and he'd never really thought of how to do it. "...And then push it all back out. Like a sigh, but with more force. You shouldn't try it here, though, even though you'll just get sparks the first time, probably."
Another long pause as he looked over her. His tail flicked behind him, and he sidled closer. "I could teach you about it some time. If you needed it." he offered nonchalantly, taking a sudden interest in inspecting his claws, before carefully looking back at her. "For the gliding, and all."
