The goat lifted its muzzle when Ilchymis reached to pat its head, nudging the construct's hand with its scroll. It gave a little shake of its head when the construct insisted on patting it, making a movement as if it would balk and step back, then instead relenting and letting Ilchymis scratch its ears. It baa'd softly, tilting its head into the touch - apparently it enjoyed the scritches, despite its earlier hesitation about accepting them.
When Ilchymis took the case from it, the goat bleated loudly, doing a small hop of sorts and quickly bobbing its head up and down as if nodding in excitement. And then the construct passed the scroll off to one of the others. The goat's eyes followed the scroll as it passed hands, a sharp bleat escaping its maw as it's ears flicked back. It backed away from Ilchymis, turning to follow the scroll as the case was opened and the object unfurled. It snorted sharply, pawing at the ground with a cloven hoof as Aberdeen commented on the writing. The baa's and bleats it gave voice to almost sounded like it was trying to speak.
The writing on the scroll did appear to be gibberish - it was no mundane language, certainly, all squiggly lines and sharp angles. The hand that wrote it seemed shakey as well, with blobs of ink here and there hinting that the one who wrote it wasn't sure of their hand. The goat followed the scroll as it was passed around, continuing to bleat and complain.
Ari took a look at the scroll when it reached him, frowning softly as he glanced at it. The style of letters were vaguely familiar to him, but he wasn't sure why. They reminded him a little of the runes burned into the back of his neck - they weren't the same, obviously, but they had a similar sort of look? He shook his head, passing the scroll on. "I uh, no, I can't read it. It looks uh... it looks kind of like... magic maybe? Like you know, uh... something like that? I'm not a mage or anything, though..."
He glanced at the goat uncertainly. It made him nervous. It looked like a wild goat rather than the sort that were kept by farmers, but it was acting altogether too tame. In the distance a howling of wolves (or maybe coyotes?) sounded; Ari flinched at the noise - it was eerie even if it didn't sound especially close - his breath escaping in a soft hiss past his teeth. A few moments passed and a second set of howling answered a little closer than the last, and then a third farther off. Ari forced himself to relax, breathing out slow. They were just normal nature noises, weren't they? Just the goat made him jumpy...
