"I would be delighted, August."
August himself had something of a charm, Grace found herself smiling harder behind the menu at the vampire. He was vegan? That made sense. He seemed to be a man that was too sweet to harm an animal. She hadn't thought very hard about her own dietary choices, not beyond seeing the doctor to make sure she was getting her nutritional needs met.
"I would like that. It sounds like a nice time," She gently set the menu back down on the table and folded her hands over it, "I will give the risotto a try. I like mushrooms."
She watched his face, trying to really, really look at him, before glancing shyly away when she thought maybe she'd been looking too long. He was cute. It was very sad he couldn't eat anymore, she hoped that eating food he liked but couldn't have would really be okay with him
"What kind of films did you make?"

“Alright! I’ll get the pizza! Nothin’ like the smell of garlic an’ onion. Even as a vampire it smells kinda good. Did ya want a glass of somethin? I can drink alcohol so ya won’t be drinkin’ alone!”
August almost froze when she asked about his films Julean had said not to swamp her with his special interests but she’d asked so it didn’t count right? He would just have to stop himself before he bored the poor girl.
“Mostly art house stuff, ermm very metaphorical. I did one that was a horror about vampires which was pretty bombaroo. I should do somethin’ ya might like to watch next. What would ya like to see?”

"That sounds lovely, August," Grace smoothed her dress with a shy smile,"I admit I do not drink much, I would love to have a drink with you, though. You will have to pick for me."
She didn't refrain from drinking for any real reason, she had no strongly held beliefs about alcohol. She just didn't see the point in drinking alone. In movies when people were drinking alone, they were sad. When they drank at parties or with their partners, they were usually more cheerful and happy. She didn't want to invite loneliness into her life, and had only ever had drinks with her brothers or family.
" Metaphorical? You should tell me where I can find your work."
The woman blinked at August in surprise, he wanted her opinions on what he should make? On his next work? She bit her lip in thought.
"I like comedies. And romance, some adventure movies."

August nodded smiling, he had to pick something sweet and fruity since she wasn’t a huge drinker. As a vampire he did nothing but drink just not alcohol.
“No worries! How about a glass each of moscato? It’s very nice ya won’t be disappointed. Otherwise if ya feelin’ extra funky we could get blue lagoons?”
August hesitated when she asked where to find his films. What of she saw them and thought they were awful so she never spoke to him again? It was a possibility as much as he was proud of them. He knew they weren’t for everyone especially someone who loved comedies and romance.
“Umm lawdy… I have copies at home but uh they’re on YouTube if ya know where to look. Umm LowFrequencyclassics has them up with some reviews. They gotta extra attention since I uh technically died. I should put some comedy and romance in me next one for sure! What about ya self? What’s your big ol’ dream? Doesn’t have ta be fancy or nothing!”

"Wonderful," Grace agreed to the moscato easily, "I do not believe I have had it before. I trust your judgement."
She clasped her hands on the table, looking at August as he spoke. She tried not to make it obvious as she took in the details of his eyes. Tried not to take his smile and kind face and listen to the music playing, tried not to pretend she was in a romance film. There was the music, she was the heroine, on the first date with the handsome boy. Don't be silly, Grace. Don't be weird.
She saw August's hesitation to tell her about his movies, and she became curious. What had he made?
"I will look on YouTube," Her face fell slightly as August mentioned he was dead," It is... Good you got some attention. I am sure you deserve it."
She felt badly for forgetting that as a vampire August was dead. His family... The world thought he was dead. It was deeply sad. She put a little more cheer in her voice to try and make up for the sadness she suddenly felt. August didn't need pity.
"I am still figuring it out. I never thought I would be able to live amongst average humans, and I am enjoying learning about the world and being part of it."
I want to be human, came the thought.

August smiled widely at her interest in seeing his films, maybe she would appreciate them after all or at least appreciate the effort he’d put in. She was very pretty and seemed far too sweet to laugh at his movies. She was practically an angel.
“Ya far too kind. I won’t be mad if ya don’t like em, they ain’t for everyone. I’m always anxious about people’s reactions. Well! I reckon average humans are lucky as biscuits ta have you be a part of their world! Ya could teach them just as much. I can help ya though, the world is ya oyster! Write a list then do all the things! Remember ya ain’t alone, in fact I have a friend who’s a mermaidy siren thing an’ she’s doin’ the same. I could introduce ya!”
As the waiter came and took their orders August couldn’t help smiling. It felt so normal and nice.
“So what’s ya favorite thing ya have learnt so far? Do ya have an apartment or something in Wath?”

The man really did have a way with words. Kind of a silly way, but it was sweet.
"I will let you know what I think, August," Grace assured him with a smile, "I might write a list. It would be nice to have a little book to go back to and write about what I have done."
The concept was rather like that of a diary. Grace had a regular diary but her adventures into the human world surely warranted a book of their own. A pretty book with antique looking illustrations of animals wearing darling little Victorian clothes. Grace could see it in her mind's eye and would make it happen.
It was nice to hear she wasn't alone in her exploration of humanity. Grace nodded along with August they ordered, then put her hand to her chin.
"I really enjoy people watching. I like the bus for that reason. I don't have an apartment yet, I live with my family still," Grace thought a second then clarified, "They're human."

August was a little surprised that her family were human. Why hadn’t they put more effort into helping her feel included in their humanity and important. Such a wonderful person deserved to be celebrated and cared for. Why was she only getting to explore it now? A charm was one thing but there were other ways. He smiled warmly at her.
“Well then ya already there! I reckon ya have the very best human qualities already. Are ya family supportive? People watchin’ is pretty good, sometimes I use it for inspiration for me films. Do ya have siblings?”
Their drinks arrived, the moscato was indeed fruity and sweet with a delightful spritz of bubbles. It was a nice change from blood. August watched Grace hoping she liked it.

"Haha...My family is supportive, if, oh, a bit protective," Grace bit her lip a little, "They are nervous for me. We did not know about the WDSA, so this... Supernatural community is a bit of a shock for us."
Grace thanked the waiter that brought their drinks, and Grace rolled her eyes a fondly at the mention of her siblings. Her brothers had been terrors growing up, telling her that people would eat her if she went outside. Well, he she was, no bites taken out of her yet.
"Yes, I have two older brothers- oh this is very nice," She interrupted her own thought to complement the drink, smiling at the little drink," Yes, my brothers. We are close, Greg and George. Greg is working at a bakery right now and George is working in construction."
The disguised bigfoot looked at August for a moment, trying to decide if she should ask about his family or not. He was dead, he said.
"Do you have family in Wathais?"

August smiled a little sadly taking another sip of the moscato. It was definitely an awkward one and August wished he had a better answer.
“That’s nice that ya family supports you. Just gotta show em it ain’t all big n’ scary out here. Maybe if they could meet some other supers? I mean there’s gotta be a support group or somethin. Nah no family here except ol’ Ru. He’s not familiar family but he’s like me brother.”
August chatted merrily with Grace, enjoying being on a date with such a lovely and gorgeous girl. Then their food arrived the smell was fantastic, Ru had picked an excellent restaurant. August could appreciate the aroma but in his current vampiric form it wasn’t exactly as appetizing as the smell of the blood of its patrons.
“So Grace! Ya gotta let me know how it tastes! Speakin’ of tastes… Do ya like music? An’ dancin?”

"I am working on making friends. Maybe, oh, they could meet you sometime. You are very sweet."
Grace didn't immediately realize that she was inviting a man on their first date to come meet her parents, but when she did she turned as red as a tomato. It didn't help that she could see the question about his family hadn't landed well.
"Ru seems like a very good friend. He is very nice."
She was relieved to see the food come to their table, and smiled politely at the waiter as they set the food down in front of them. It did look good, really good, and Grace nodded as August requested a taste test. She took a careful bite of her mushroom risotto, and couldn't help beaming. This was delicious food, her first meal on a date with a cute guy. She leaned back a little, taking in the scene and trying to commit it to her mental picture book. She wanted to remember this.
Grace peeked back at August, drawn out of her fantasy. She giggled at the broadness of the question..
"Oh. I like music, I have never danced... around people."

August smiled warmly at Grace trying to ease her obvious embarrassment. He felt bad for making her feel bad but he couldn’t exactly lie either.
“I’d love to meet em sometime…You’ll make plenty of friends ya just gotta meet em. Can’t imagine anyone not liking ya! Ya like a ray of sunshine an’ cute as a button. You’ll have friends comin’ out ya ears! There’s a reason so many people go lookin’ for bigfoot.”
He poked his food a little, looking around and hoping no one was paying too much attention to his non-eating. He was enjoying this date a lot, he just hoped Ru was having an alright time himself.
“Ooh you should definitely do some dancin’ in public. I bet ya super graceful an’ cool. I like music with a good beat but definitely a rock kinda guy. Though ya can’t deny the pull of Miss Swift!”

"Mm. This is good."
August was wonderful. The worst thing she could say about the vampire so far was that he was a little hard to talk to because he was so nice, he kept making her turn pink. She smiled into her pasta.
"Meeting them is the thing, I suppose," Her face broke into a wider smile at the bigfoot joke, " Oh, August..."
She took another few bites of her food, watching a waiter walk past.
"I will have to do some research."

Ru drifted over from the bar in a flurry of movement, turning in place, first one way and then the other to survey his two friends on their very first date! He tried not to smile, hoping that he wouldn’t make it obvious he had been unintentionally eavesdropping from his side of the room on this one.
“Hey! How’s dinner going so far?”
The vampire leaned against the table, trying to seem smooth. He pretended not to notice the way his boots slipped on the linoleum floor, or how he skidded a little.
“You guys… doing ok?”
He sincerely hoped he was right, and neither of them needed to be bailed out right now.

August almost jumped when Ru suddenly appeared. He smiled shyly running a hand through his hair. As much as he was enjoying the date, romance was such a subjective thing. He wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. There was no guarantee that Grace felt the same. Still hopefully he had a new friend at least.
“Bombaroo! Just lovely. Happy as a clam that it ended up bein’ Grace as me not-so-blind date. I uh hope ya feel the same, Grace. We were thinkin’ of catching a movie after but no pressure.”
He smiled again. He didn’t want to force her to spend more time with him than she was comfortable with. She was new to the whole dating thing after all.
