August smiled at his small new friend. It was sweet that he cared so much about August’s aspirations considering they had known each other such a short amount of time. It said a lot about his character and August felt a new feeling of warmth towards the man. He would help make this store a roaring success. Sure his aura had a certain quality but it clearly said nothing about Yoshio. Just because he was a vampire didn’t make August evil after all.
“Mmm change me appearance? Lawdy! I dunno about that… Me mum gave me this face. It might sound silly as a goose on wheels but it’s all I got left of me family. If I shave me head it’ll just grow back the next night. I can’t grow a mustache neither…”
August watched the dramatic performance of Yoshio, this guy would make a good actor. He definitely had that edge. Success. A certain face did come to mind, one he’d thought hidden and forgotten. Lloyd French. Anger rippled up at the memory.
“I dunno… I just want ta make art. Maybe I wouldn’t mind bein’ more successful than one person. Would you like to be in one of me films? I reckon the spotlight would love ya!”
He smiled widely at his new friend, fangs and all. He didn’t have to hide from Yoshio after all.

Yoshio’s eyes widened as he considered the possibility. Despite his theatrical flare, Yoshio had never been an actor, either on the stage, or on the big screen. He had helped /others/ get there, sure, but he hadn’t been directly involved all by himself. And what a shame, because his knack for shapeshifting could have made so many effects possible with no budget at all!
“I would love to play a part. You know, I can change my appearance, so I could play more than one part if needed. Even creatures.”
The devil shifted a little. There was no real way to trace it unless he was careless with his powers. That might draw some unwanted attention, but they could do so much with CGI these days. How would anyone know it was anything besides a special effect?
It was more tempting the longer he thought about it. And how long had it been before he had been directly involved in anything /fun/? Most of what he did was the most basic accounting of souls, rather than getting ones’ hands dirty. That did seem to avoid attention, but also was...well… boring.
“You were a director before, and you have some talent. Are you also the writer, or do you need one?”
The small man grinned widely, before leaping up on one of the tall chairs, using its rotating top to spin around in a slow half-circle with the force of his movement.
“And what /is/ your next project?”

August laughed at the antics of the small man. How he hadn’t acted before this was beyond him, the guy was a born natural. He clapped as the man span around.
“Bravo! Ya hired! Though we might try an’ get at least a couple more actors. Don’t want ta burn ya out. Yeah I write me own films but I’m open to collaboration ya know? Ermm well…”
August hadn’t really thought about doing another film in a while, unlife had always got in the way. Still he really wanted to impress his new friend, he racked his brain for one of his old projects that had never taken flight.
“I got one about this gentleman thief who is secretly a werewolf and a huntress with a memory problem who falls in love with him. What do ya think? I am open ta ideas!”

“Oh, actors? You’re looking for actors? I have all the actors you could possibly need. Why… I can call them right now to show you their talents…”
The small man bowed low, like a ringmaster, from his perch on the top of his chair, tipping a non-existent hat as he did so. His voice resembled that of a carnival barker’s as he offered his abilities. His servants, yes, they were more than capable of being actors.
Being good, film-quality actors…that was another matter, but, if needed, he could get some extras in there, or pull a few favors to get one or two famous faces in here. They owed him a great deal more than that, after all. He grinned while considering it, flashing his sharp white teeth for only a moment, before offering his hand to August.
“I like the plot. I hope they’re all well-developed and well-rounded characters.”
Yoshio admittedly doubted that this would end up being a ‘good’ film in any way, shape or form. In fact, but most measures, it would probably end up being a terrible film, short of some Faustian bargain. Another Faustian bargain, anyways.
Whatever his thoughts on the matter, his cat-like smile never faltered, his expression was as faintly pleased as ever. Yoshio’s dark eyes shone with mischief and light, his pale face a ghastly shade in the gloom. The shadows gathered under his eyes and made hollows of his cheeks, both exaggerating his age and his youthful features.

August cocked his head slightly with a frown. It was feeling a little too good to be true. The last time had ended badly for everyone involved. Though that wasn’t Yoshio’s fault. It was his and the vampires that had decided to eat them.
“Right.. right now? Nah it’s okay, Yosh. I appreciate ya enthusiasm but I reckon it needs time ta percolate, ya know? Besides ya can’t just cast any ol’ Dick or Harry, it’s gotta feel right. They need chemistry an’ stuff…”
He was a little stumped as he considered Yoshio’s other question. He hadn’t actually considered making the film so the characters were just bare bones. He liked the actors to give their own angles. Add colours with their own brushes.
“Ermm like oranges ya know… But ah they could still use some finagling… What kinda character would ya like ta see?”
He really wanted to know a little more about his new friend.
“Ya know ya can have some input? If ya gonna be part of the process. Don’t be shy.”

Yoshio laughed at the idea of being involved in the film. What sort of story would he like to see? Well, one with lots of drama! And tragedy. Probably not devils, that would be a little /too/ on the nose, as much as he enjoyed Faust. He rubbed his hands together, not unlike a housefly, and plopped down (with surprising ease) on the cushion of his chair, grinning from figurative ear to ear.
Excellent. Delicious.
“Well, I personally like a good love story. I’m a little on the fence about stories ending in tragedy…I think we all like a happy ending, as much as we enjoy the drama of it all, you know.”
He leaned back, so far that August might have thought he’d tumble right off, but he remained precariously balanced on the edge, a hand pointing directly upwards, towards the ceiling of their store. The little devil was dreaming now, reflecting on what thing could be.
“Characters, well, I think I’d like… a fellow who is soft at heart, but plays up his toughness to keep everyone at bay. And a tough woman who sweeps him off his feet, yes. A little played out, but I like the dynamic. He doesn’t have to be strong for her, she can be strong for him.”
Yoshio swooned a little bit, his hand against his forehead, grinning all the while.
“What do you like? What is your ideal leading lady, Mr. August?”

August nodded enthusiastically at Yoshio’s words. Tragedy wasn’t for everyone, he liked it on occasion. Tragedy could be beautiful if done properly, you had to add a dash of hope. It was hopelessness in tragedy that really got to people. All good filmmakers knew this and August liked to think he was one of them.
As he leaned back August’s eyes widened and he prepared to catch the intrepid sitter. He hovered anxiously around.
“Ooh so a soft on the inside crunchy outside paired with a soft outside crunchy inside. A tsundere fan huh? Don’t ya call me Mr. August! We’re mates now! Call me Auggie or August, or if ya reeeally feelin’ it, Gus. “
He pulled a hand through his hair as he considered the question.
“Ermm I like a leading lady with moxie, ya know? Gumption! Knows what she wants. An inner confidence. Doesn’t need a man ta define her. An’ pretty as a peach of course.”
August’s eye twinkled imagining her. Yoshio seemed a man after his own heart.
“What about a villain? Every film has to have an antagonist, some blighter causin’ trouble for our heroes!”

“Oh, she sounds lovely. Can you imagine her steely resolve? Her beauty? Her strength?”
Yoshio laughed. What sort of villains did he like? He supposed there were many different sorts of interesting villains. Unfortunately, the most common, at least in the real world, were simply selfish, greedy and otherwise rude people. How unfortunate, how unfortunate. Well, he could always offer suggestions.
“It depends what you are aiming for. I always found the fallen everyman fascinating. Maybe someone who tried to escape their fate, and ended up walking right into it and realizing that it was all inescapable from the start. Or perhaps, a good man who fell, doing his best while making hard choices. These are all as compelling as could be, and I am sure your audience would love it.”
These were all scenarios that could be done poorly, but they could also be done very well. Who knew? With his demonic blessings, he might be able to get a hit movie for this young man. Or maybe it would just make back its miniscule budget. Who knew. He did not.
“I’ll leave you to think about it, as the expert. What do you say?”

August nodded at his new friend. Tosh certainly had a goldmine of an imagination and August couldn’t agree more with his ideas.
“It’s true ya know. I like ya idea of a villain worthy of redemption a lot. No one is truly so evil they ain’t got an ounce of good. Except people who hurt animals, I’m not so sure about them… “Alright so ya gonna let me mull it over? So I guess it’s goodbye for now. Thanks a gosh darn bunch! It’s been real nice meetin’ ya. Same time next week? Do ya like boardgames or are ya more of a cards guy?”
August placed the camera carefully into his backpack and eyed his new ride excitedly. Ru was going to be so jealous. He’d let him use it too of course.

The devil’s dark eyes sparkled with delight at the offer. He did love a good board-game, and of course, cards. Well, any game, any instrument. Any contest of skill was always a draw. He supposed it was partially his nature, but like everything else in life, that was something that each and ever being on this earth was made to enjoy. And enjoy it he did.
“Ah, any of them. Dealer’s choice. I’ve probably played them all, and if I haven’t, you’ll have to teach me. I can get someone to fill in if we need more than two players, though I’d prefer it was just the two of us.”
He took August’s hand delicately in his own, and did a half-twirl, as if dancing with him, before unwinding himself and skipping to the other side of his shop, bowing deeply as he did so. The little devil was concerning nimble, with all the grace and speed of a ballet dancer, holding the pose for far longer than was necessary.
“Oh, parting is such sweet sorrow. How unfortunate that we must see you go, but until next week, my friend.”
Yoshio saluted him in a manner that lead to a long wave farewell.
“Yes, same time next week. I will be waiting here for you, of course.”
