"Mmm. That figures." Faolan narrowed his eyes a little, jokingly, at Sarkany's neat side-step around the language question.
Unremarkable was good. Safe. But all it took was for one super to notice him, and that was that.
"You said wary, before, but - I don't know. Sometimes it just feels like paranoia. Or that I don't have anything to back it up with." He didn't want to whine, but if anyone could help with this, it was probably Sarkany. And he had invited him down here for a reason, and he was fairly sure it wasn't karaoke.
"Like when I saw you, with those documents. If you'd decided you didn't want to risk me telling anyone, what good was it that I noticed you?"

"That was a bit of a blunder," Sarkany agreed, chuckling.
He had thought about it. Silencing the doctor. It was what he would have done not too long ago - what he had done when he still suspected the WDSA of removing problematic supers like Hkoma. The hastiness of his actions then, and the damage he had done to a potentially beneficial partnership, had stayed his hand when he'd been caught with the files.
"I'll give you the honest truth," he said, resting his chin on his knuckles. "Paranoia is what it takes in our world. Your mistake was not listening to it. You can accept a world of danger and adapt, or you can trust to your world of laws and civilization. There's no having both."
The corner of his mouth quirked, though there was something almost sad in it.
"Prey can't live complacent lives. Even I will always see the world through the lens of a threat. It's the way of the Old World. What you can do is hone your instincts and awareness until your paranoia becomes your confidence. For a human, that may be your best defense."
He shrugged.
"Not what you wanted to hear, I'm sure. But what you can predict, you can prepare for."

Faolan nodded, slowly, as Sarkany spoke. He knew it to be the truth, but there was something melancholy about his acceptance. It was the way of the world, but he didn’t have to like it.
“Not really, but I’m glad you said it like that. Working for the WDSA makes it confusing, sometimes, I guess. All the laws and rules for things that have never followed them.” He sighed a little, though his smile hadn’t faded entirely. His gaze flicked to the surrounding patrons, briefly. This was his one chance to learn how to adapt in a way that mattered, and he wouldn’t let his shyness of the seraph stop him now.
“And how do I hone those skills? Could - would you considered teaching me?”
