Kira twitched in the dark, silent passenger seat of the truck.
She was back in the hut, the thick smell of mold and wet moss vividly remembered as she walked through its dark interior. She looked up at the bottles arranged above the bed, reached for one, and held it close. It did not whisper this time, but instead swirled and sloshed in its misty way. A loud voice sounded somewhere behind her, causing the room to spin under her very feet and send her reeling onto the ground. She watched the glass break, the darkness inside explode out at her, and then consume everything. The feeling was deadly cold, a vast emptiness that seemed to go on forever. Hungry eyes gazed at her from all sides, and she felt nothing but fear and the threat of looming death.
At least until the dream dissolved into a mix of random nothingness. Kira twitched again, curled tighter and sighed into a deeper slumber.
When Tsukiko finally came around, Kira was in the deepest part of sleep. As the truck rumbled to life, Kira stirred, muttering incoherently to herself as she slept before falling quiet once again.
The drive was relatively uneventful for both the werewolf and the Burbat, who remained blissfully unaware as they went. It was only when they neared their destination that the thickest part of Kira's sleep began to melt away. The first thing her sleeping mind began to notice was the sound, a rumbling all around her and the blurring hum of asphalt under tires. Then the sensation of movement began to draw her back into conscious awareness as she began to uncurl. Her eyes creaked open, spotted the inner panels of the passenger side door before noticing the trees and lights speeding past the window above. Kira made a small, almost soundless hiccuping noise, body jerking fully awake, and shot one foot out at the dashboard with toes spread in a wide grip against the surface. Her wings puffed slightly out, one bracing against the door and the other slowly tucking itself back to her side. She froze like this, her eyes golden saucers gazing uncomprehending at the alien surroundings while her entire body remained tensely braced against the dash and door. Her ears swiveled like radar discs until finally her gaze settled on Tsukiko. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. Only a frozen "O" expression that worked half-open and half-closed remained there as if that were the only way she could question what was happening.
