[OOC: Aaron gives Dust as much info as he remembers and feels deja vu about the blue eye kid. He indicates that Dust and #36 should walk ahead of him and follows Sara's lead to the first house.]
Aaron glanced sideways at Sara while she answered, looking at the puppy in her arms. He was glad it was with them - glad for that simple, doggish enthusiasm, whoever it really was. Maybe...maybe things would stay this way. But he knew better.
"It's a killing ground." he added, addressing Dust. Who was the other kid with him? Aaron's gaze fixed absently on the one unnatural eye. "There were traps in our year."
As he spoke, there was a distant yelp across the street, followed by a small explosion of goo.
"If you meet any hostiles," Aaron continued, unphased. "Do not engage if you can avoid it. You can delay them if you're smart, but they don't stay down. And the ones who die -" A chill through his core. The thought of Sara's body, stripped to the bone, warped and crazed as it rattled after him. Never - never. "- come back as monsters. Every person we lose is another killer after us. So play it smart."
He felt sick to his stomach at his own words. It got worse and worse every year. First the maze; then Sara; now Dust and Cassius and Stenson too. The friendly street, the colorful houses - he knew what they really were. He knew what was coming, and he didn't know if he or any of them could stop it. Aaron felt like a piece of string, taut and fraying down to the last thread. He tried to center himself. Focused instead on the hand that reached for his own. On the fragile smile as Sara looked at him.
“Alreet then luv, I’m gunna give this ‘ole trick-or-treatin’ thing a bloody go, like. Cass and Sten ‘ave gotten a’ead of us already, ya know, figured maybe we should keep up with ‘em.”
A good reminder. Aaron looked over at the two agents, already walking up to the cat-house as the vanguard, and nodded. They had a formation. They had more experience than last time. Anxiety would only cause mistakes. He glanced at Dust and - that eye, that eye was just like -
"Come on," he said, nodding the boys ahead of him. The words were closer to an order than Sara's. But he needed to get them moving. The nightmare wouldn't wait forever.
Aaron fell into step beside Sara, though he kept them to the back of the group where he could watch their six. Definitely for security reasons. It had nothing to do with the costume, or the buckets, or their miniature selves. This was what he told himself as he trudged up with the group to the cat door and added a mumbled, borderline sullen 'trick or treat' to the voices of the other children.

[ OOC: Ari continues to stick with Raine, and approach the second house. ] Ari kept a grip on Raine's hand, but nodded quick agreement to the Irishman's plan. Certainly, he trusted him more than WDSA agents, and moreover it was comforting to have a familiar face, someone he could cling to. His mask slipped back down to cover his face when he nodded, the Black Panther's expressionless mask hiding his own distress. He didn't push it back up this time, since they were going to try to play at being normal trick-or-treat'ers. He didn't stray from Raine's side, even though the other two - Bambi and Elsa - ran ahead to the first house. He did watch them, though, flinching when green stuff sprayed out over them. Was it acid? Some sort of corrosive goo that would eat through their flesh and leave them nothing but bones? It would appear it wasn't, as nothing untoward seemed to happen to the other two children, at least nothing aside from being dirtied. Still, when he and Raine approached that house, he would be careful, not wanting to fall to the same trap. It wasn't acid but... it could still be some sort of... bad thing. Maybe it would make them sick? As they approached the house, he realized what the green slime had been meant to be. He recognized the Ghostbusters car, remembered Slimer from the movie. It had been ages since he'd seen it, he had just been a little kid then, too. He'd enjoyed the movie then, but the memories weren't all pleasant. He held a little tighter to Raine as they moved nearer, but then the red-head seemed to think better of it and lead them away, on to the next house. It surprised him a little, but it made sense, best to keep up with the other two. He hoped there wouldn't be a penalty for missing out on some of the candy - but then, they would miss the other side of the street as well, wouldn't they? Maybe Raine meant to go back up the other side when they reached the end. Then if it was necessary, they could still go to that first house...
"T-Trick or Treat!" He chimed in, his voice shaking slightly, a little muffled behind his mask.

[OOC: a slimed Aberdeen begins tailoring his child-act. For now, Aberdeen tags along with Kail to the third house on their side of the street. When they reach the house, Aberdeen knocks and steps back, just to be on the safe side.]
Faintly the nøkk registered a quiet click, however, he didn’t have much time to place any weight in it, before something shot out of the wall, giving Aberdeen a glimpse of a lolling tongue and a massive grin, before he was covered in some kind of substance. First, he expected it to be toxic, or perhaps some kind of acid. He muttered under his breath, as he waited for the substance to take effect. But nothing happened. As he heard the voices of the couple, chuckling and talking, Aberdeen looked up, widened eyes blinking the slimy substance out of them, noticing how it stuck to his lashes.
Then Aberdeen figured that the things, the mannerisms and behavior he had practiced could easily be applied to fit his current appearance, with a few small tweaks of course. He smiled sweetly at the elderly couple, but let a certain measure of childlike uncertainty seep into his behavior. With a seemingly unconscious movement, the nøkk stepped closer to Kail, the way a friend might hide behind another, childishly self-conscious. Eyes flickered to and from the adults, his smile becoming both nervous and coy. After all the people in front of them were strangers. Aberdeen figured the more he could blend in, the better, but perhaps that was just a foolish hope of his. Blending in had helped him before, however, whatever this place was, it didn’t quite follow the rules Aberdeen was used to. As candy was dumped into his bucket, Aberdeen thanked the humans.
Then the door closed, and the human’s faces had been erased from Aberdeen’s mind. As if he had never even seen them to begin with. Aberdeen couldn’t care less, half because he considered himself lacking the emotional attachment, or the capacity for emotional attachment. The childlike smile he had worn disappeared instantly.
As Kail trotted down the street, Aberdeen couldn’t help but notice that he was a bit more cautious, and he appreciated it, for some reason. Soon enough Aberdeen joined him, pail with candy in hand, absentmindedly scooping the goo of him, as the two made their way towards the third house on their side of the street. “Hopefully, there won’t be more… slime waiting for us”, Aberdeen muttered, “otherwise it’ll be a long night.” Soon enough, they reached the third house. Aberdeen looked at it for a second, trying to spot any obvious traps or surprises. “Here goes, I guess?”, He said, looking at Kail and shrugging, if this was some kind of game, or if these candies gave them a chance to escape, what did they have to lose? Stepping forward, Aberdeen knocked on the door, in a way that was something between determined and hesitant, but enough so it might be heard. Not willing to take any risks, the nøkk stepped back. Then Aberdeen remembered something. In the years before he had been caught up in this event, children had sometimes come asking for candy at his apartment, dressed in costumes and carrying similar pails. He remembered what they had said. "Trick or treat!”, he then called out, forcing his voice to rise slightly in pitch. He grimaced, at the sound. This was almost embarrassing, but at least, he wasn’t the only one in this.

[OOC: Raine drags Ari to the next house and sings offensively.]
Raine also flinched back at the green stuff, horrific memories of the gushing creatures from last year filling his mind. Would they melt, or swell up into new grotesque monsters? But Kail and the blue child were unharmed, and actually got candy anyway – and laughing, proceeded to the next house. Only then did Raine recognise the decoration for what it was, and let out a relieved sigh. He even had to smother another laugh as Kail shook off the green substance. Well, it was going to be a long night: If there were tricks like that around, benign as they were, all of them would end up with some egg on their face.
Over the road, Sara and Aaron were already heading to another house on their side, while the unknowns still seemed a bit undecided… but nothing horrible was happening. No saws, or zombies, or explosions. So far the worst damage done was what Ari's plastic claws had done to his costume's sequins, but he couldn't feel bad about that: The costume was horrible, and everyone close to him damaged his clothes at some point or another.
So Raine shook off his fear, as best he could. “Come on then,” He crowed. “We dinnae wanty miss out on all the candy!” Dragging Ari along, he thoughtfully avoided the sliming house – Ghost busters, hey? – and went to the next house, carefully avoiding the odd stretches of black stretchy substance and odd... bubbles? dust? Bambi and Elsa had avoided this one, but he managed to get to the door and knock. With a laugh, he opened up with the old – although young, to him– song. “Trick oor Treat! Smell mah feet!”

[OOC: Walter is briefly confused by Dust's behaviour. He follows along, meeting up with Aaron and Sara. He doesn't really know what to make of Aaron's insistence that their situation is really so dire, but lacking any other knowledge on the phenomenon, he chooses for now to err on the side of caution and follow the instructions they were given. He makes sure to stay close to Dust as they make their way to the Cat House.]
----
Walter stumbled as Dust took the lead. His unsteady footsteps had less to do with adjusting to the stature of an 8-years-old child, and more to do with his surprise. Luckily he had already put his mask back on, so Dust missed the expression of total shock that crossed the doctor's face. Such behaviour! Unsolicited physical contact, calling someone by their name rather than their designation without approval, taking initiative... It was so unlike the well-conditioned Asset he was accustomed to interacting with. "Geht es dir gut?" he asked, a flicker of concern in the youthful doctor's voice. However odd it seemed, he did not pull his hand away, and allowed himself to be led without argument.
He was aware that Dust had been labelled a missing asset, whether by capture or defection he didn't know. The absurdity of the current situation had dampened any relief he may have felt knowing the Genasi was still alive - presuming he wasn't a fabrication of whatever illusionist had trapped them - and the noticeable changes in Dust's behaviour summoned even more questions. That his behaviour would deviate so much in such a relatively brief period was curious. Walter wanted to inquire, to find out the details of Dust's disappearance and the nature of his current life, how he knew this Aaron... A familiar name, though he didn't immediately place why. It was like a distant acquaintance, only half-remembered and quickly forgotten.
Questions would have to wait. The pair reached the other grouping of children, and a... puppy? A puppy in a wolf costume. Walter blinked behind the mask. He had seen stranger things admittedly, but it seemed to only further highlight the comical nature of the situation. If this was a dream, he made a mental note to check his coffee maker for signs of tampering.
The boy he presumed to be Aaron elaborated on what to expect with a rather icy calm, then gestured that he and Dust should continue ahead. Further up the road, the cowboy child and another were approaching a house decorated with a truly excessive number of fake cats.
Walter gave the Godzilla boy a sideways glance. Aside from being summoned here against their will, everything seemed fairly benign. Was he really to expect death around every corner? Then again... it could be argued that whatever or whoever had set up this farce obviously had some supernatural abilities. Perhaps following instructions was the best option, at least until he had more information. Resigned to playing out this childish game of Trick or Treat, Walter started off toward the cat-covered house, with Dust close at his side.

[OOC: Dust wonders about the Halloween Tradition and thinks its silly, but approaches the same house as Aaron and the others. He mimics their gestures uncertainly, even repeating 'trick or treat', but is uncharacteristically embarrassed by the whole process and it's completely obvious.]
"I'm well, Doktor."
Having been reared off the coast of an eastern country and denied the basic societal principles of celebrations and holidays, Dust had no idea what he was doing when he joined the group. He knew of Halloween only in the academic sense, and from that one time when he'd seen decorations in Moira's office. She'd explained what the paper ghosts and pumpkins were for, but the next year they'd been absent and Dust hadn't thought it appropriate to ask. Otherwise, he knew only the basics: you knocked at people's doors and they were supposed to give you treats.
Dust's bi-colored gaze flitted around to the faces of all the other 'children' present, then off into the shadows around corners. When he didn't see anything he returned his attention to what Aaron was doing.
Hold out the bucket. Say 'trick or treat'. Dust's mouth twisted. This was such a stupid waste of time, but it was part of whatever event this was, so he did as instructed and held out his bucket when it was his turn. He felt so incredibly ridiculous doing it that he hunched his shoulders and tried to hide the bottom half of his face in his non-existent shirt collar when he muttered the line.

Sara, Aaron, Zavi, Dust, Hahn, Stenson and Cassius (Team Hodgepodge) knock on the cat-house door. All around them are the sights and sounds of growling, hissing cats. Those with tails even feel something tugging and batting at them, as though by cat’s paws; though should they turn to look around, there is nothing behind them. When the door opens, the masked face that greets them isn’t much taller than the children themselves. The eyes of the decidedly feline mask glow a bright green, slit pupils generating a feeling of discontent in any onlookers - as though they’re alive and staring straight through to the soul beneath the costumed skin. The person turns and shouts out, disappearing behind the partially closed door. “MOOOOOM! THERE’S KIDS AT THE DOOR!” A muffled, excitable voice is heard from within the house and then a very large, very smiley lady in an apron appears. It looks as though she’s been baking, if the smeared batter and stains of white flour are anything to go by. Something is moving in the large front pocket of her clothing. She squeals and bends over to get a better look at the group of children, when a purring sounds from below, from a ginger cat winding through her legs. “Ohhh well look at all of yooou! I could just squeeze your cute little cheeks.” For what is likely a heart-stopping moment for all involved, the woman lifts her hands as though she might do just that. Instead, however, she stands up and reaches into the pocket on the side of her apron. From within, she draws out a handful of the same round candies that had been dished out to Cassius and Stenson at the previously visited house. “Now don’t you little wolves scare my kitties, alright?” She says jokingly, while thumbing one candy into the pails of Stenson, Cassius, Dust, Hahn and Zavijah. With a portion of the group done, she reaches into her pocket again and draws out a second handful. A single candy is placed into Simon’s pail, then Aaron’s. But just as the last candy seems destined for Sara’s pail, a new, grey feline - with ears that looked far too massive for the decidedly grumpy face - emerges, this time from the woman’s apron. A large, fast and apparently very heavy paw falls onto the woman’s wrist with a bap! and as surprised exclamation escapes her, the woman’s hand opens and candy scattered all over the xenomorph. One falls into Sara’s bucket, but the rest ping off her and her costume, to end up all over the porch. “Oh no, what a mess! Oh children, please do share those amongst yourselves, they’ll be alright, they’re all wrapped. Meanwhile, this naughty little kitty,” she lifts the rather sullen-looking cat, with a stumpy tail and oddly pointy elbows, from her apron and holds it in front of her face, apparently not actually bothered by what it had done, “-needs some attention obviously. Don’t you?” With that, the door closes and the group are left on the doorstep with some candy in their pails and yet more of it on the floor around them. Five extra pieces by the look of it. Again, trying to recall any distinguishing features about the woman or child who had first answered, would prove to be futile.
Kail drags Aberdeen (Team Disney) to the cartoonish-horror house. As they ascend the path, various cartoon ghosts, candles with faces, haunted pumpkins, zombies, ghouls and other such creatures leap out to meet the pair. All of them with a cartoon style, all of them cardboard and all of them loaded on a spring mechanism to jut out in front of them and then pull back into place with a giggle. Aside from the rather comical attempt at jumpscares, nothing untoward happens to the pair and they reach the front door rather easily. However, as they knock on the door, it simply swings open. A second passes and there is nothing but darkness on the other side. With startling abruptness, a large creature with a split down the centre of its face, rows of teeth visible throughout the gaping hole, shot out of the darkness. An immeasurably loud noise, like the shrieking of violin strings and an off-key slam of piano keys, mixing with snarling and a clap of thunder, sounded, not in front of the two children, but as though it were all around them. Inside their own heads. The effect lasted all of a second, though that was likely enough to at least spook the two supers, before the creature turned out to be just yet another cardboard creation. A teenager dressed as a blue and white ghost jumped into the doorframe a moment later, looking very pleased with himself. “It worked! Haha!” Apparently unconcerned with the affect his creation might have had on Kail and Aberdeen’s hearts, the young man quickly threw some candies into the costumed children’s buckets. Two in each. “Thanks a lot guys!” He shouted with a wave, before shutting the door in their faces.
Raine and Ari (Team ShipIt) head for the strange things house. As soon as they cross the threshold of the gate the world seems to subtly change. The air cooler, sky darker and though the particles in the air were tiny bubbles should either Raine or Ari decide to get a closer look, when illuminated by a nearby streetlight or the lights of the house, each one looks like a speck of strange dust. Black masses and threads of a peculiar material coat the ground, the trees and even what appeared to be two human-like shapes on the floor. Still, the pair reach the front door without any trouble and successfully knock. What opens the door is no friendly couple, or over excited family dressed in matching outfits. A bright light illuminates the ground in front of the pair, before travelling up their costumes and settling on the candy pails. A shock of bright yellow hazmat suit stands in front of both children, a torch held in one hand and helmet illuminated with a bright blue glow. The figure does not speak, but a radio at their hip crackles with static and garbled voices, lending a creepy, disturbing edge to what was likely already an unnerving scene. A gloved hand reaches out, still the figure says nothing. But no less than four round sweets are deposited, first in Raine’s bucket, then Ari’s. As soon as the last round candy drops into the young shifter’s pail, a gust of wind and what sounds like a faraway roar emerges from the house, the yellow figure takes a step back and the door closes. Whenever the pair decide to turn away from the property, they will notice that one of the trees appears to have a tear in it. More of that strange black material hangs over the wound, but there is a light filtering through, as if there might be something on the other side.
After both cartoon-style houses, the groups would perhaps notice that they would reach the edge of the thronging crowd of other children and adults. Costumed people were everywhere. An ever moving mass of colour, laughter, false claws, horns and wings that littered the street; if they weren’t careful, as each group proceeded they risked getting seperated. For the moment, however, it should be relatively simply for everyone to stay together.
Again, the style of the houses changed as they continued down. Beside the house Kail and Aberdeen were currently stood at was a house decorated to look like a castle, with false spires and battlements arranged in a haphazard fashion. It was crooked and dark, but with a cartoonish, painted edge that took away from most spooky factor it might have otherwise had. Beside that one, was a property with an even greater shift in tone. It looked almost oriental, with hanging lanterns and what appeared to be a shine on the far side. There was even a tiny bridge that spanned over a small, trickling stream. Strips of white, that might have been paper but was difficult to tell from a distance, seemed to be everywhere.
On the other side of the road, Team Hodgepodge has not yet visited the cartoon-style house; however, should they wish to skip it, the next property was by far the greenest visible on the street. Massive plants, ferns, littered with fungi and the ruins of what seemed to be miniature buildings, filled the front garden. At one point, a set of headlights and yellow paint could just about be seen from beneath a mass of branches and foliage. Everything had a sheen on it, as though wet. Beside that house, was a far warmer looking, homely property. The Jack-o-lanterns held sweeter smiles, ribbons of gold, orange and red were hung from trees and the porch roof. A pile of leaves, just perfect to jump in, was visible beside the winding path that led up to the front door.
But where on the side of Team Disney there is simply an uninterrupted row of houses that stretch into the distance, on the opposite side (where the agents and their entourage are travelling), there appear to be two houses and then a break. The pavement sweeps around a gentle corner and what appears to be another road, at an adjacent angle to the street they are currently travelling on, is just about visible. After the road break, the houses continue again as normal.
Cassius now has 3 pieces of candy. Stenson now has 3 pieces of candy. Kail now has 4 pieces of candy. Aberdeen now has 4 pieces of candy. Aaron now has 1 piece of candy. Sara now has 1 piece of candy. Hahn now has 1 piece of candy. Dust now has 1 piece of candy. Zavijah now has 1 piece of candy. Simon now has 1 piece of candy. Raine now has 4 pieces of candy. Ari now has 4 pieces of candy.
There are 5 pieces of candy on the floor around Team Hodgepodge.
Quick house summary On Kail’s side; - Ghostbusters - bubbles and tall trees - cartoon-y, - castle - shrine and lanterns house.
On Cassius’ side; - Necromancer - cats - cartoon-y - overgrown with plants and fungi - homely and softly lit house.

[OOC: Sara is beyond pleased to have a new puppy friend, gives Zavi a brief overview of how trick-or-treating works, then receives her own candy. When more gets scattered on the floor she freezes so that her tail doesn’t sweep it all off the porch or some such. As soon she’s saved from the candy at her feet she’ll follow the group to whatever house they go to next.]
By the way the wolf pup followed her, Sara reckoned she’d made a new friend, which made her heart swell with a giddy sort of joy and adoration. No matter how many people or animals she befriended, she never grew tired of it, and this one was was very cute. Thus, she was smiling a little more naturally as the group made their way up to the door, chuckling at the fake cats and likely scripted scares scattered around the garden. It was harder to keep up a suspicious, borderline terrified state of mind when there were so many Halloween-related tricks and costumes to see. But the fear still lingered and Sara was glad she was at the back of the group for when the door opened. It did occur to her, however, that a certain member of the party would likely have no idea what the whole thing was about. “Oh, Zavi, luv-” the shifter said, with a light elbowing of the dragon-costumed girl, “I’ll explain why later, like, but this is a holiday that’s now a chance for wee bairns, ah, children, ya know, tah get sweet treats. Remember the dark chocolate I gave ya that time? Things like that.” Then she heard a knock from ahead and her heart thudded against the inside of her chest. No more time now. “J-just, ‘old ya bucket owt, alreet?”
Sara was scared. Of what might be behind the door, when this would all go wrong. Still, she smiled sweetly, yelled out ‘Trick or Treat!’ in her more high-pitched child’s voice and held out her pail to the cheery woman in her apron and tried not to let her certainty that something was about to go seriously wrong show on her face.
As it turned out, something did go wrong, but it wasn’t for the shifter.
It seemed that one of the lady’s cats wasn’t okay with the whole situation, because it promptly slapped the woman’s arm just after her piece of candy settled the shifter’s bucket. Sara didn’t have chance to consider how familiar the little feline was, because she soon let out a squeak of surprise as balls of candy rained down on her head. She nearly took a step back, her tail sweeping wide but luckily above the ground; but as the heel of her xenomorph foot lightly touched one of the spilt sweets, she froze. Given the lady was letting them have the scattered pieces, Sara kept herself very still to avoid sweeping the candy off into the bushes with her often unmanageable tail, after all, the candy could be their only chance of surviving this place. She also didn’t really want to shift into something smaller while there were potentially a load of cats in the area. She’d made that mistake before and that was in a place that wasn’t a hellhole. “Alreet… ah, I divvint want tah lose these sweets with a sweep of me tail, so could one of you lot grab ‘em please?”
Her plan, once she wasn’t surrounded by sweets that might be integral to the group’s survival, Sara intended to follow wherever else the group might go. After all, that hadn’t been… so bad. Maybe this year was just a chance for whoever arranged these Universes to embarrass the lot of them?

[OOC: Dust picks up candy, splits it between Sara, Aaron, Zavi, Cassius and Hahn, then follows the group.]
To his surprise, knocking at people's doors did actually result in treats. They weren't anything he'd ever eaten before or would ever eat - who wanted loads of sugar in your body anyway? - but, hey, at least there was a system. Dust felt better for it, even if the embarrassment didn't go away when he'd been given his share.
Then candy seemed to explode over the girl child Aaron had been fussing over - Sara, wasn't it? The shifter - and Dust dropped immediately to begin picking them up before anyone had asked. When he had them all in his small hands he stood up and counted the ratio of extra treats to people. It wasn't enough for them all, so Dust deposited one in the buckets of Sara, Aaron, Zavi, Cassius and Hahn. He left himself and Stenson out.
That done, he followed the group to the next house, giving no opinion on which they should visit and opting to let someone else take the lead.

[OOC:Kail suggests a teamup with Raine and Ari. He hates crowds.]
Kail was unimpressed by the numerous cardboard cutout jumpscares, but watched them all with a sullen, untrusting suspicion. Likewise, he was careful with the placement of his hooves, but there was no trap or switch. Again, at the door, nothing-
He flinched back and let out a startled snarled “FUCK!” at the toothy monster that suddenly hurtled towards them, ears pinning against his head at the godawful screech it let out. It was in his head, he wanted it out - but it was gone as quickly as it had come, leaving him reeling as the teen dropped more candy into their bucket. It was only when the door closed that he had recovered enough to check the bucket. Two more.
Then he was pushing Abby ahead of him, encouraging him to move, muttering curses.
The sight that greeted him as he looked up the street was not pleasant. Beyond the next castle house and oriental house, there was a massive milling crowd of costumed children and adults. With a sideways scowl he glanced at Aberdeen. As much as he hated to admit it, while at his current height, the huge crowd was ...intimidating. His round eyes searched the street behind them, for Raine and his friend. He would either wait for the pair to reach them or trot over to them, addressing the redhead.
“We should work together.” He asked, the high pitch of his child's voice lessening the roughness of the words. “It’s more efficient and if we gotta fight, we stand a better chance.”

[OOC: Aberdeen is surprised by Kail’s suggestion to team up with Raine and Ari, but agrees (with a bit of snark). Safety in numbers?]
The first few jumpscares caught Aberdeen by surprise, making him jump or choke back a squeak as he moved away, expecting something worse than cardboard. However, as he became more and more aware of the fact that it was, in fact, just cardboard, the cut-outs lost their novelty, becoming nothing more than tacky objects, tasteless in their persistence. Aberdeen slowly became numb to them, to their sudden appearance and their prerecorded giggles as they pulled away. In the end there wasn’t even a change in his expression. When they reached the door and the large, toothy monster jumped out at them, as suddenly as all the others had, Aberdeen feigned shock, but felt none of it, muffling a fake whimper behind his lips and pulling back, half seeking cover behind Kail, like he figured a scared child might. Even if the monster itself was something he had expected, the soundeffects weren’t. A clap of thunder, merging with the sounds of a piano and an abused violin made Aberdeen grimace. That was cruel. A brief look at Kail told him, that the wendigo has been surprised by this jumpscare contrary to the others. The loud, highpitched outburst confirmed that.
Barely had the pair gotten their candy, before Kail was shoving the nøkk away from the house, muttering his curses. Ahead of them Aberdeen saw the large crowd that had gathered, and narrowed his eyes. Some part of him really didn’t want to get to close, knowing how far it might be from what it looked like. Glancing at Kail, he could see that the wendigo had noticed the crowd as well, and thought his own. Their eyes met for a moment and Aberdeen nodded, perhaps in understanding. Then Kail suggested they team up with the others they had spoken to.
Aberdeen listened to what Kail said, how he suggested teaming up, with interest. The nøkk had to admit it was one of the last things he expected from Kail, if he had even expected it at all. But in some way, he figured he appreciated it, almost thankful that the wendigo had thought about it. Teaming up might make things easier, either in a fight as Kail had suggested, or should they run into other problems. “You know. I regret not bringing a pen and paper to document this glorious occasion”, Aberdeen said, almost matter of factly as he looked at Kail, a small, playful grin on his lips, “wouldn’t have expected you to suggest a team up.”
“But it’s a good idea, Kail.”, Aberdeen finally admitted, wanting to at least recognize Kail’s initiative, “I agree that we... probably shouldn’t head off on our own.” Then the nøkk looked back at the group Kail had suggested they team up with. The redhead that had spoken to them originally and the masked one. Waiting for their reply.

[ OOC: Ari hates Stranger Things house. He thinks teaming up with Kail and Abby would be a good idea, but if Raine decides against it, he'll stick with him. And as before, he'll go to whatever house Raine does. ]
The otherworldliness around the house mad Ari shiver, it almost seemed as if the air was colder, damper, and the weird... stuff dangling from the trees and spraead out over the ground... It reminded him of last year, the tentacles in the water wrapping about his legs, wrenching him off his feet, dragging him toward his death. He walked gingerly, leaning heavily into Raine - even with his Black Panther costume, he was definitely no superhero.
When they reached the door and it opened on a blindingly bright light, Ari flinched back, moving a little bit behind Raine, his grip on the other's hand tight enough that it might have hurt a normal person. He made a small mewling noise low in his throat as the light swept over him and slowly a figure resolved out of it to drop candies into their pailes. The roar and wind from inside the house earned a yelp out of him, and he released Raine's hand to stumble back from the door, near tripping down the steps that lead up to it. Once Raine rejoined him at the bottom, he would latch on to the other's hand again, wanting to hurry away.
His gaze swept side to side, nervous and frightened. When it fell upon the strange hole in the tree, the black gunk oozing out of it and white watery light filtering out of the hole, he shuddered and tried to hurry Raine on. It wanted them to reach in, but then something bad would happen - they'd lose an arm or be yanked in. Maybe there was something useful in there, but he didn't want to risk it.
When Bambi and Elsa regrouped with them, he nodded quickly and shoved up his mask a little to talk: "Th-That sounds good... like a good idea. W-We probably have a better chance together..." As he finished speaking, the mask slipped down again to hide his face - it was a little annoying. He turned to look toward Raine, waiting on the redhead's response - Raine would agree, wouldn't he? It had been his idea earlier, after all. But if he didn't, well, Ari would still stick with him over the two strangers.

[OOC: although abit hesitantly, zavijah heeds Sara's instructions and monkeys/mimics the group. . . seeing she did have no clue as to what she is needed to do in such a tradition. nor what to expect. she bows in gratitude for the candy from the boy uncertain why he did this before following the group. she quietly looks to the house next to the cat house. why the decorations look so odd, and what traps linger among them. the large group of people ahead prompted her to huddle close to Sara and others.]
zavijah:
her head snapped lightly towards the direction of Sara when she heard her name and was being lightly elbowed. ". . .yes? " she asked curiously, before listening as to what Sara had to say. . "i recall of the chocolates. . .so hao-" she started to ask before the door was knocked heavily apon. . . “J-just, ‘old ya bucket owt, alreet?” Sara stated. . she looked between Sara and the door before hesitantly holding her bucket out as well, mimicking what the shifter and the others were doing. she chimed. .a abet not as gracefully nor as enthusiastically as the others, before watching curiously as to what the woman was going to do. . . with a hallow thunk, she dropped a small round piece of candy in each of their buckets before her small feline beast swiped at her hand, causing a cluster of pieces to fly out of her hands and onto the ground. . . before she could ask if the woman was alright she seemed to lift the small beast up before closing the door. . .
she flinched when the more slender of them seemed to drop immediately for the candy that had fallen before he plopped one of them into her bucket without a word spoken. . . why would he give her one as well? . . . surely he could of at least kept one for himself. . if not all of them. . but what he collected within his hands was immediately in the buckets of others. ". . I thank you for the candy. " she bowed to the boy, there was perhaps a few moments of awkward silence before she quietly followed the group. . .
She glanced towards the next house, noticing the rather strange figures amongst the land infront of the home neighboring the cat infested home. Some of such seeming to suggest real life things. . . . But created in a strange sort of manner. . .
Glancing back towards the ever slowly approaching crowd of people, she grimaced at the shear amassing number of them . . .this seemed in itself, a trap . . .for all they knew, if they were being hunted, the hunter could be very well watching to see who amongst them would become segregated. . . She knows all too well hao easy it was to be swiped away from such a dense crowd. . . . So she opted to huddle closer towards sara. . . Perhaps near Stenson and Officer Lucidus as well.

{OOC: The puppy is spooked by the cats, then Simon is sad he wasn't fast enough to eat the candy off the floor. Zavijah is investigated.}
Going up to the cat house, Simon was glued to Sara, keeping his side flat against her legs as they walked, growling softly at the cat noises. When faced with more cats at the door, He snarled. He wasn't scared, no, he's protecting them all from these things with needles for fingers! He was confused when the woman dropped a treat in his bag, and tried to eat it, but his muzzle wasn't quite long enough to reach the bottom of his bucket. He stopped however, when the candy bowl was spilled. His fear evaporated, and he got busy sniffing at the candy, and was going to build up the courage to eat one when a little boy took the candy away! He flattened his ears, and sniffed around, hoping that maybe there was more he hadn't seen.
The puppy didn't want to be left behind, however, and was quick to follow Sara. When Zavijah popped over, she was instantly met with a curious nose. Who was this? Simon didn't know her. She didn't seem bad! His tail started swishing back and fourth. She smelled like she had candy, so he licked at her fingers. More new pals!

(Cassius accepts the candy with mild confusion, and sets to lead them towards the cartoony house as they set down the street towards the end. He is satisfied with the current amount of candy everyone has been distributed thus far.)
Cassius watched all the cat and child-related shenanigans play out before him with mild surprise, shielding himself from the candy that was batted in their direction. His normal first reaction was to punch but he shoved it down to somewhere deep inside of him. He chided himself; he should have expected something cat-related to happen with the look of the lawn. The other children seemed surprised as the candy fell on the ground. One of the children picked up the pieces and offered them to the others, including He allowed the candy to be distributed to himself, though he looked thoughtfully at Dust. A super he did not know.
"Thank you."
He nodded at Dust, and then started walking with purpose to lead them to the next house. The cartoony house was next on their list and he intended to help everyone collect the candy. He noticed they had a few more persons to escort, and that was fine. Was this some kind of contest? He was not sure. He walked along and watched the others. It was both thrilling and a little disconcerting to be so weak, but that was how this existence was going to be.
"We can go down the street in order, I think that will be most efficient, then we can change streets."
He did not sound either quite as gruff or as commanding with a child's voice, and the awkward whistle of air between his missing teeth embarrassed him. He honestly hoped no one noticed then wondered why he cared so much. It was not like he had an image to keep up. He flashed his teeth in a grin, as toothy as ever at those surrounding him. This would be a lovely night.
He walked up to the next house, and knocked on the door, first rapping with claws, then with his knuckles.

[OOC: Walter gets his candy (1 from the woman, and 1 from Dust) and follows Cassius toward the Cartoony House. While en route, he examines one of the candies to try and determine what it is or where it may have come from.)
---
While he understood the Halloween tradition in an academic sense, Walter still felt the entire charade rather absurd. Knock on the door, join the chorus of "Trick or Treat!", receive reward. Adding to the ridiculousness, the woman at the door couldn't even manage distributing the candy correctly, and dropped a handful of the wrapped treats across the porch. He barely had time to turn around though before Dust had gathered up every last one, and split them up among the group.
"Danke," the doctor said to Dust, as the group collectively made their way back to the footpath.
He fell into step beside Dust once more, and followed Cassius' lead to the next house. The decorations there had an animated, cartoonish theme, and Walter could not be less interested. Childish games and silly decor just... weren't his field.
Instead, he turned his attention to the candies in his pail. Despite lacking his notebooks, he still chose to approach the situation like a scientist. He plucked one out and turned it over in his hand, checking the wrapping for any logos or discernible marks, anything that might identify what it was or where it came from. If the item had magical properties, there was the chance his spectral eye could pick up a signature or aura. He then pushed his mask up enough so he could even sniff the candy, maybe he could get an idea of what it was. Briefly he pondered eating it, but decided against it for now and stowed the candy back in his pail.
